A devoted dog (Josh Gad) discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. Reincarnated as multiple canines over the course of five decades, the lovable pooch develops an unbreakable bond with a kindred spirit named Ethan (Bryce Gheisar). As the boy grows older and comes to a crossroad, the dog once again comes back into his life to remind him of his true self.

That line hurt so much because I recently lost a dog who has been with me and my family for over 10 years now. I couldnt be there when they put him down because I was away on a sailing trip and they only allowed my mom to be there when he was put down because of covid. I didnt get to say goodbye to him and it hurts even now to think about.

My 3 year old dog and my 2 month old puppy had died days ago because of distemper, now, another puppy has to say goodbye because she's been infected with distemper too 😭💔

K for Keen Guns, Missions, and YOU I’m very sorry for your loss. It’s one thing to lose a dog. But to lose two at the same time is horrible. I know how that feels. A few years ago, I lost 2 dogs in the span of a few weeks. I was messed up for a while after that. It’s gonna get better, just don’t give up hope.

coochiegod 446 what hurt the most about his death was that he was the last of what my family calls “the old pack”. The old pack were 3 dogs we had since I was a baby and over the years, we lost one after the other. Then at 13 years old, we lost this one. It feels like I lost a good portion of my childhood with that dog when he died.

This scene hurts even more after having to put down my 16 year old childhood dog. We grew up together, he was more then just a dog he was my very first best friend. One day he just went really down hill and we knew what had to be done, called the vet and made the appointment. Hardest thing I’ve ever had to do but he was in so much pain I knew it was what he would want. He went peacefully on his dog bed under his favorite tree, surround by his toys as we all pet him through the whole thing. Broke me down to tears but knowing he’s no longer suffering makes it so much easier. Rest In Peace Chance until we meet again my friend. Save me a spot, one day will play fetch all day just like when you were a puppy ❤️

im so scared of losing my dog. I've had many, but they've all died when I was very young and too young to understand how meaningful they are. this dog has been with me for 13 years, cheers me up when im sad, cuddles me when im lonely, and is always there no matter what. I don't know what im going to do when she's gone. ive never been good at dealing with loss. the fact that the dog who's been with me every day since I was 2 years old will eventually pass scares me to death and I sob just thinking about it. I know the time is coming and im not ready. update (8/16/22): came back to this comment and it made me cry. my dog passed just last month, she was 15!!! i know she’s in a better place now and im glad she’s not suffering.

My little fur baby girl crossed the rainbow bridge May 30, 2020. There’s nothing I can say to you that’ll help you with yours, & nothing will prepare you for that moment. It’s just the price we pay for their love & companionship. To never have to grieve means never to love, & that’s no kind of life at all. You just have to think about it that way. You’ll always love them, & you’ll always remember them, so they will live on in your heart. Even though it hurts, we do it over & over again b/c they need us as much as we need them. I’m 37 now, & I still remember my first fur baby & the day I lost him. I was 8 years old. I still miss him (Joe). Now I miss my little girly too. She’s the one in my profile pic. Her name was Booger. She was 13 & 1/2. Just cherish every day you have with them as if it’s their last b/c you never know. Take lots of pics, & make many happy memories b/c that’s how they’ll live inside your heart forever! Make them as happy as they’ve made you, & return their love, & you’ll always have something very special! 🐾❤️🐾❤️

I lost my dog when I was 7. He was my best friend. After he passed I told my dad I didn't want another dog because no one could replace him. I got over it eventually. I saw this 12 years later. At the end of the movie, I got in my car and cried for fifteen minutes when I realized...losing your best friend, no matter how much time passes, deep down it still hurts.

I know it's hard but many vets have said that they can see a pet's fear in their last moments as they are put down and can't find their friend. Stay with them. They deserve their last moments with you, so they can leave in peace.

I did just that, and held my dog real tight showering her with love and kisses and tears as she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. This movie is so special for me, because my Loki passed the same way under similar circumstances.

My dog was sick the day she died, but I didn't expect her to die later at night. I even heard her last breath 😢. Although it makes me happy that I was able to tell her that I loved her and had petted her before she had left us. I'm happy she lived for a good long 12 years. She was a tough dog

I feel like dogs are the only animals that truly show unconditional love a pure love, they dont care about race, religion, sexual orientation, they wont cheat on you, there happy to see you weather its 10 at night or 3 in the morning they always greet you with love and love we humans arent even capable of they live for us. They stick by you good times and worse times. I cant count how many times i had a bad day and id just hug my dog Holly and feel so much better like her love would just transfer over to me like magic.

I just lost my 12 year old chihuahua yesterday to Lymphoma. I have never cried so much in my life and still haven’t stopped. He was so amazing, so smart, and we had such an amazing bond. He would come and get me when he was ready for bed. If I got mad at a game on my phone, he would get in between my phone and me and distract me to cheer me up. I have narcolepsy and if I would fall asleep, he would lick me until I would wake up, unless I was in the bed. I could go on and on, but it won’t bring him back. Everything I see reminds me of him. Some people will think I’m ridiculous but we were almost inseparable. I don’t understand why such precious beings only get to stay here such brief stays. They make such a positive impact on our lives and hearts and then they are taken away. I know he is waiting for me and we will meet again.

J Owens I’m so sorry to hear. I lost my Golden to Lymphoma yesterday, too, and it was so painful. I cried like a baby and I still haven’t stopped. He was my everything and that’s what we are to them as well. He was about 10 or so. It’s so painful to watch them suffer, but he passed on as I hugged him and told him how much I loved him.

techinically described as comedy-drama but extra heavy on the drama. and look at movie marley and me was marketed to be comedy fam film and i still can't watch it again. i was sobbing so much i had choke sobs. the dog's series movies yeah lot of tears but lot more heart i really did see this movie online 2 years ago and cried watching this scene before the movie but also saw last clip and well happy tears and said to myself i need to see this movie that and dog's journey were heartwarming tear jerkers. nice to hear things from what supposedly dogs think and they don't want us to be sad and bailey never scared of not exisiting but just wanting to be with his best friend forever to make him happy. dogs are the best.

nothing can prepare you for loosing an animal, they are a part of your family. Its the hardest decision you will ever have to make. But if you are fortunate to be able to have an animal that is able to tell you. The more you feel at rest afterwards. My dog is 12 years old, almost 13. He has probably a few years left at best. But hes done so much for me. He never left my side when I went through renal failure and depression. when I was in the midst of a panic attack because of the pain, he would jump on my bed and let me play with his ears and stroke his soft coat. Hes helped me through so much which is why I need to prepare myself for the inevitable. Any animal you take into your care isnt just a pet. They are a family member.

This could not be any more true..... I lost my dog a while ago..... I miss him so much....... I miss his barking.... I miss his tail wagging and how he always looked happy to see me. I miss just sitting with him and talking to him. I miss him.... I said goodbye to him the morning before he was put to sleep. He was put to sleep because he was literally always in pain.... He was a very old dog but.... He has been apart of my family since we got him when he was a puppy. I remember how happy I was when we got him.... Now looking back on that day..... I wish I had hugged him harder..... But that morning I was so upset with having to say goodbye to him..... I wanted the goodbye to be short as possible. I hope when I die the first thing I see..... Is my dog running up to me since he's no longer in pain anymore.... Until then....... I'll miss him...... And keep him. With me.... Always.....

@@silas-sf4xg don't be scared. Instead..... SPEND AS MUCH TIME WITH YOUR DOG AS YOU CAN. cuddle them. And give them kisses even if you have had a rough day. Take them on walks and enjoy playing games with them, and if it needs any shots..... Always be there for It, So even if the shot hurts the dog, The dog knows your there and that can be just as great a Comfort to a pet then it can be to a human being. Also make sure your dog gets all its basic needs, Food /water etc. Dogs are the loyalist companion any human being can have and in my opinion it's an honour to have one by your side at any point in your life.

Jared Adam Christensen I feel for you. Such a shitty situation. Over the years I’ve had to put down 3 dogs due to old age / sickness. I was there till they drew their last breath except the last one. I had flown out of province when my dad called to tell me she had become very sick so he took her to the vet & at that point there wasn’t much to be done. I had to make the decision over the phone to have my dad stay with her while she was put down without me there. One of the worst decisions I’ve had to make. It absolutely gutted me. I still cry to this day about not being there with her in her final moments.

I’ve been there. My dog Chopper had to be put down when I was about 11, but since my parents were divorced (my brother and I were living with our mom, and Chopper was with our dad), I wasn’t able to be there. I didn’t even know he was gone until my dad told me. It’s been 15 years, and I still can’t help but think that he was probably wondering where I was during his final moments.

I lost my old boy in august of this year, just a week before I left for college. It still feels like a fresh wound. My parents already want another dog, but I still haven't quite gotten over him. He got so sick so fast, and it crushed my heart, but I knew it was time for him to go when he stopped eating and drinking one day. I sat with him for what must have been five hours before that vet visit, sort of hoping he would just fall asleep and go peacefully, though I'm grateful that he went peacefully at the vet while I held him in my arms. I miss you, Murphy.

I'm so glad you cried. I'm sure your body really needed it. Nobody on this planet simply doesn't cry. It's a natural reaction we need in order to heal. If someone consciously chooses not to, it'll have detrimental affects. Then again, it's very hard to refuse the body of what it needs. Again, I'm so very glad you cried. I hope you do it a lot more.

Many humans in this world are so impure and make me dissappointed and sad in the kind of world that we live in. Nearly every awful event/thing that you can list in this world or from the history of our world was fabricated by the human species. Just about nearly every dog that has ever existed just wants to enjoy life and share it's love with someone they can trust. Maybe thats why we live longer than dogs, because it takes us that many years to learn true happiness. Humans live with depression, we live in isolation, commit suicide, hate on each other for having different opinions and beliefs, bully each other and tell one another to kill themselves as a joke, etc. Humans are more disconnected in life than dogs, so maybe we are just simply given more years in life to figure out how to live it right. I wasnt expecting a response from you since this was a year ago lol. How's life?

This reminds me of when my dog Rozie had to be put down because of an emergency.....her kidneys started shutting down she couldn’t walk....it felt like my heart split into 2 she was my best friend my only friend....i feel like since she died I have scars all over my body.....she was the best I wish she was here she used to lye down right in the middle of the entrance to the kitchen and after she died...I.....i would step over it thinking she was still there thinking that everything was ok thinking that I just had a bad dream......but I didn’t and she’s gone....

I've watched this 5 times and I'm still crying over this. Bailey just looks too much like my Sonny, and unlike Ethan, I wasn't able to see him before he died. My mom didn't want it to ruin my last thoughts on my best friend. Sonny changed a lot when he got sick, growling at everybody, not recongnizing us. (I'd never heard him growl in my life) Aww this hurts too close to the heart. I was only five years old, but I still remember my best friend. You can't ever replace a dog either, I have nowhere near the same type of bond I had with Sonny with my dogs I have now. It's just not the same

dogs are angels without wings they have a really short lifespan because they already know how to love ( it seems a bit unfair, tbh) every now and then, i can still remember my beloved dog (passed away because of an illness many years ago) but I am happy knowing that my dog won't feel pain anymore and just running around watching in doggie heaven with other dogs watching over their hoomans too

I lost my dog nearly three years ago now, and I have to say the moment they conveyed here is very accurate. The fact they had caught the moment his tail started to wag broke me, the same thing happened when we had to say goodbye. I was by his side every moment, from the diagnosis, to the goodbye. I've never felt more pain then that day. This brought up the memories so well, it conveyed the same emotions that I had felt that day. My dog didn't want to leave either, he knew we were sad, and he fought so hard to stay, despite the pain he was going through; he was blind, going deaf, his organs had begun to fail and he his hips were at the point where he couldn't walk anymore. Despite all that pain, he tried to stay, taking his paw away every time the doctor attempted to insert the IV. I'll always love my dog, he'll always be the same puppy I got when I was four, the same dog that stayed by my side 'till by High School Graduation. I'll always love him, even if he isn't here by my side.

I lost my pitbull, she died at 11 and I miss her so much she never growled and would always play with our cats and bunnies... I miss her.. so much. Whenever someone says pitbulls are just so terrible I cry because I think of my dog and how amazing she was. I am so happy we had a chance to live a life with her because when we were at the pound another family wanted her..broken car window. Beat up faces. They would have cut her ears and made her suffer.

My dog that I had grown up with ever since I was very young passed on recently, and the other night I watched this movie because I haven’t watched it in a while and I wanted to watch it again, and let me tell you I have never cried and sobbed so hard to a movie in my whole life. I’m losing my dog tonight and this scene really touched me because I could feel all of her thoughts in my head and i know in my heart that she knew I was there even though she can’t see anymore. She got cancer last summer but she lasted all this time and through the holidays. I couldn’t believe it when she was running around a little during Christmas. She is the best girl I know, the kindest girl in the whole world. Thank you for sharing this scene because it made me feel so much closer to her than anyone could possibly know. I cried not only because bailey died,but because if you had a dog and it passed away😞 We all miss are dogs that passed away. Everyday dogs and humans die. But it’s ok to cry because you can move on but don’t forget about them. Always remember you and your dog playing with you with there toys. We all miss our dogs. It’s hard to not have them with you anymore. But that’s okay. Just. Always. Remember. your. Pet. Loved. You and every thing you did to take care of them. never forget the times you spended time with them and playing with them. If your pet dies don’t ever. And I mean never..
