I love all your DQ VIDS I HAVE SEEN SO FAR but do you think your going to want to rewiew DQ monsters joker 1&2 there are almost no rewiews of or very low quality and not that in depth and I would love to see you rewiew them
Oh and I discovered your channel by accident when searching for good old DQ GAME REVIEWS and watched Your vids and i loved them all so you got a new sub from me
Man its been so long since the Monsters series returned! The last I played was Joker 2 to on the DS and it wasnt even Professional! Still its great to hear peeps still talking about Dragon Quest Monsters! I cant wait for the Dark Prince for Switch!
Yoooooo move DQ is always great to see from you, and I'm excited to hear your takes on the monsters series! Especially with Dark Prince right around the corner
Totally felt like as early souls-like. That feeling of gambling “do I drop down the hole now, or risk my resources for a minimedal or a monster master?” Was so real I couldn’t agree more that the depth of the dungeons was too much. I ended up getting deep into the breeding part and gave up on the mainline quest when I was a kid.
DQ X is actually very playable thanks to Clarity! Translates menus and most of the text to english, it can be abit annoying to setup but well worth it tbh.
Just got done rewatching my favorite DQ retrospective series only to find this on my YT home page the next day! Remember GC that you are amazing, and please keep on playing positive!
I originally discovered your channel through your DQ retrospective, and I am personally so interested in learning more about the monsters spin-offs, as they are sadly not that much talked about. I know it's a little different, but have you ever thought about doing a retrospective (might be a quick one) about the mystery dungeon series? That would talk about the torneko games, the Pokémon ones, Shiren the wanderer, etc. I haven’t seen much about them online, and I personally think that would be interesting. Just a suggestion, though ! Keep the good work.
Dragon Quest Monsters might've partially been inspired by Megami Tensei (the precursor to Shin Megami Tensei) but it's interesting because it went full circle - SMT developers made their own spinoff afterwards that played more like Pokemon & Dragon Quest Monsters, called Devil Children (its 2nd generation localized as Demikids). I grew up with the Demikids anime never knowing it was technically an SMT spinoff! This was years before the first localized SMT game, SMT: Nocturne.
I would never have known this game existed if it weren't for GC. What a neat little concept for why someone might be taming and befriending monsters for battle!
Ahhh, DQM, my single favorite Dragon Quest sub-franchise... Which of course means they decided to stop translating it. What the heck guys. Between this and Rocket Slime I can only conclude translations are cancelled specifically on the basis of me wanting them.
I remember walking into a Funcoland and picking up Dragon Quest Monsters 1. One of my favorite series and perfect game too play different everytime. Though like usual I always go all of the way and breed up to three very high 999 stat Boss monsters (Mainly on the Monsters 2 games I did this but the first one I used to do it aswell.) I always go for 100% on these games and I normally never do that on other games. Hell even Joker 1 for the DS I was one of the top teams in the world via their online battle system were they copy your team you set how you want the monster's behavior during battle and you see how they perform and adjust. Dr. Snapped was my linchpin of the team due to it was slower but did two things heal and hit someone so at the end of my turn the other side would have one party member that was hurt so my next phase my team would focus them.
I was having fun with DQM, even if the gameplay felt like a poor man's SMT. But then it felt as though I had bred myself into a corner. My monsters had gotten weaker, and the difficulty became too great. Never finished it.
DQM1 was one of the first GB games i bought from my own money after i got infested with JRPGs and Monster rasing games by Pokemon and Final Fantasy. I kinda loved the game but never finished it (because of the lack of story or mini stories) but i liked the combat system and the breeding. Unfortunately DQM2 never came out in Germany so the whole Dragon Quest games were already quite unknown (the first real DQ Game for PAL regions was DQ8) and when DQM JOker came it i got it immediatly :)
You may be surprised how far along Dragon Quest X translation has progressed. Its 99% playable in english and there is a free trial for the first and second expansion!
I remember owning the first one as a kid. I think I looked up a guide near the end and saw that it was 50 floors for this dungeon or something like that and noped out lol
I never played the originals, just the Joker games and the DQM remakes but I love this spinoff series. 3v3 or 4v4 makes the game more complex than Pokémon and the level at which you can build the monsters on your team is crazy and so much fun. I loved exploring and exploiting the breeding/synthesis mechanics and especially loved how the developers understood how exploitable it was and so they made the post game harder and even released the "professional" Joker games. I couldnt be more excited for the Dark Prince
Amazing video! Thank god the algorithm recommended this. I'm playing the 3DS remake of DQM right now and there was a point earlier this week when I was like IS THIS A ROGUELIKE? Then this video came along :O Fun Fact: Koichi Nakamura, co-creator of DQ, was actually a huge fan of the game Rogue (the first bit of the "Roguelike" word) and was one of the big figures that took the genre into the mainstream with his Mystery Dungeon series
When I was like 15-16 my brother gave me a purple gamboy color and I looked around swapmeets to find a game, and found this guy selling both kobi and his sister’s journey and he had a buttload of each.Later I found out that all of his taras journeys had a wierd glitch that cause your first monster the slime to be dead. I tried for awhile getting around this wierd glitch and even reviving it just crashed the game and I tried every other time or option even making it to the first village and reviving or buying item a there.
ive watched through your old dq series and loved it as a massive dq fan its really cool youre going through the monsters series ive only just started it with Dark Prince and ive grabbed a second hand copy of joker 1 cant wait to see more and keep up the great work!
Monsters 1 is pretty good.... Until the last dungeon. It's way too long and MP healing items are too expensive. And you NEED MP for healing and damage.
I'm hoping these games eventually get added into the Gameboy feature on the switch :) then I can play them all over again spending hours & hours absorbed into them just like when I was a kid :)
Dude!!!!! I'm so so happy to see more DQ content from your channel. Keep up the good work. This video on DQM is much needed as we gear up for the dark prince entry 👌
Dragon Quest monsters was my first DQ, and it will forever hold a space in my heart. I got it for Christmas in 2000, at 10 years old. I spent COUNTLESS hours breeding and throwing meat. I still play the original on my phone a few times a year. I wish we would have gotten Terry's Wonderland localized however, as it was PHENOMENAL
Started watching your stuff around the release of DQ11 because of your retrospective series! Can't say how excited I am for the Monsters retrospectives! I've been a DQ fan my entire life but the release of Monsters 1 was what really locked me in as a lifer, excited as hell for the new one!
Such a fun video! I've tried to get into both these games but they never really clicked with me. Hearing the reverent yet nuanced discussion of these games helps me respect and appreciate them more!
