Hbk's promos were absolutely Amazing, during this time "Who's your daddy, Montreal?" Will always be Shawn Michaels best line, and the Larry King spoof was gold!
It was hilarious, justified and I am glad he did it. He will always be my all time favorite wrestlers ever, and in contrast Hogan is my LEAST favorite ever. The epitome of someone not knowing when their time in the sun is up...decades prior. I wasn't a "smart mark" watching wrestling in the mid 90's-early 2000's during my High School days. So I had no idea just how much he was forcing people to watch him and always as champion. Obviously once I found out everything made perfect sense. Hogan is such a piece of shit overall, as a wrestler he is awful, his gimmick has always been stupid as fuck (wooo 'merica!), his promo's are all the same shit, he always comes off as arrogant on the microphone (remember on that Wrestlemania in which EVERYBODY except him talks about the gloriousness of Wrestlemania...but he decides to say "I slammed Andre the Giant"?)...
barber shop aside, the finest moment of his career. one can say what they will about him, but who else in the industry said FU to HH in front of 18,000 people and made him look so ridiculous. I wonder what bret hart's thoughts were , watching the match. physical sarcasm as its finest. totally outclassed. if someone had done that to Shawn Michaels I'm sure he'd have found a way to manage the situation. Hogan just didn't know.
I'm willing to forgive Hogan for the ego this time around because, I mean, the guy was in his 50s... wrestling a series of matches? .. Really? I'm thinking he didn't want to do it because he might have felt he couldn't; something might break. But a one-match ending in a loss for Hogan? Unthinkable. It would have created a pretty nasty anti-climax with the fans who were most definitely on Hogan's side. However, that face-vs-face setup would have been awesome to see.
They both had massive egis, but there's one MASSIVE difference between Hogan and Shawn that people need to take into consideration.. Hulk Hogan is wrestling biggest star of all time, while Shawn Michaels is wrestlings biggest star in his own mind.
Shawn is the greatest entertainer that buissnes has ever seen and there's another big difference too after Shawn came back in 02 he actually spent his time putting guys over. Something Hogan never done. Shawn was a thousand times better in the ring than Hogan ever was. Shawn was better at promos Shawn was better at the in ring story telling. Hogan sold a look that's what made him. Shawn made himself with his in ring skill and talent and mind for the buissnes. And like good ole Jr said when it comes to hbk he's in a class all by himself
Jessie B Pfft... who the fuck are you trying to kid? first off the GOAT is subjective. Fact is Hogan is the biggest draw in wrestling history & Shawn tanked WWF's business when he was on top in 1996. Shawn didn't elevate anyone to his level ever. Hogan put over Goldberg 1998 & Lesnar in 2002. Hogan was a better "worker" than Shawn in terms of making fans yell the loudest for the longest which is what it's all about. Shawn being a better promo is subjective & I strongly disagree he was better. Hogan TALKED far more people into seats than Shawn. If you think Hogan was just a look than you're a dumb mark. Hogan was a much bigger draw & that's what this BUSINESS is about.

Wrestling wise it wasn’t even close ! Yes Shawn did some shady things backstage, but unlike hogan, he was giving matches worth watching. I know I’m not looking for any hogan matches to rewatch
For me the "overselling" was what I expected. Big Hulk knocking the crap out of little micheals... I would have been pissed had HBK won. This was about the end of my wwe fandom anyway, wasn't hanging around for the Cena era and this new thing called TNA was really catching my interest...whatever happened to that promotion I can't remember...lol
Not enough is said about how Vince stirred the pot with both of these guys too per Court Bauer and Alex Greenfield who were on the writing team at the time

4:17 some matches aren't a match as much as they are a nostalgia trip, this wasn't bad, they had chemistry since they both understand the business on and off the ring, shawn and hogan wasn't about wrestling, just about icons giving the fans a memorable moment, they didn't really bury anyone. people tend to ignore the fact that matches are made for different reasons, not all of them are a pathway to the HW title, not everything has to lead to a title match at mania, somethings are just for fun, and even then they can become tricky, we all saw how this ended. Shawn tends to take the blame for everything, but in this case I think hogan just got a taste of a better version of his own medicine, best part is he could do nothing but take it. He was found wanting, then he got bested.
I remember watching the Ppv at a Bw3's, I had spoken to the Management about getting the promotional poster after the ppv was over, so I go to take it down and some random drunk Dude tried to take it too, things got heated until I calmly suggested a round of paper, rock, scissors to which I won...I still have that poster hanging on one of my walls to this Day.

I was at the July 4th Raw where HBK turned heel on Hogan and betrayed him via sweet chin music. Now THAT was a swerve. Classic moment, the whole place went fucking crazy!
Michaels got upset because Hogan beat him at his own game - he was frustrated with his inability to out-negotiate Hogan behind the scenes. Michaels was never supposed to be anything other then Hogan's job boy bitch but his ego wouldn't allow it. When the politics didn't work (Michaels didn't have the leverage or the persuasive power he thought he did) he accepted his fate & then cried to McMahon to let him cut a promo sarcastically mocking Hogan proving while he's a changed man in many ways, he's still at his core the same person he's always been. When The Hulkster was on top of the WWF from 1984 - 1993 he transitioned the genre of pro wrestling into the mainstream, drew huge ratings for Saturday Night's Main Event, sold Pay Per Views, sold out House Shows etc. When HBK was on top in 1996, people were changing the channel to the WCW to see Hollywood Hogan. Then in 2005, Hogan kicked Michaels ass from pillar to post! The right man won.

Michaels was a part-timer in 2005 - he DID NOT work a full schedule - only tv's, ppv's & major market house shows & always had a good month or two off every year. Michaels did the job to Hogan, as he should have. Michaels didn't have two decades of a pro wrestling career left after this match - he wasn't the next star. At the time an argument perhaps could be made that Michaels, would be around five more years unlike Hogan however looking back in hindsight in the years after the match took place, who exactly did Michaels help elevate to the next level i.e. his level? I can't think of anyone. At least Hulk put Brock over.
I recall Shawn overselling on a few other occasions but this time was an absolute marvel. it was even funnier to see Brooke & Linda crying over the "violence" of this match on Hogan Knows Best 🤣🤣🤣

Every top guy has played that game you have to at that level if you want to stay there. At least when Shawn came back he only won the belt once and spent the rest of the time putting over young guys like at wrestlemaina where they wanted Shawn to beat cena for the title and Shawn told them no he wanted to put John over and he didn't want the responsibility of being champion he just wanted to have fun

It was that Hogan had been doing this stuff for 30 years at that point and people were sick of it Shawn did everything he was asked including turning heel which he didn't want to do. Hogan decided to change the match and the story line last min and it pissed people off. Good for Shawn him over selling didn't expose the business any worse than Hogan winning that match no way Hogan beats Shawn in the ring at that point in his career. And you must not know very much about Shawn's past backstage otherwise you would see the hypocrisy in his stunt. 1) Shawn overselling Hogan can be seen as Karma for all those times of Hogan abusing his politicing power. 2) Hogan is the person that defeated Keven Nash with just a finger, and defeated Jeff Jarrett years later , by sheer telekinesis. @@isitoveryet9525 I can't remember which channel it was now, but the version I'd heard of the backstage planning on the series of matches had HBK insisting her got the first win, then Hogan would win the second. When HBK refused to do it as Hogan - HBK - draw, then Hogan changed it to a one off with him going over. It's from hearing that version of it that I assume HBK was planning to quit after the first match, but who knows what really went on in the discussions there. If there were five people in the meetings, there's likely at least five vastly versions of the story.

The most famous wrestler of all time vs. the most talented wrestler of all time Did Hogan not understand that, especially by this late point in 2005, getting a visual pin-fall victory over someone on television was not going to get you over or cheered more by the audience at large like you could in the ‘80s? Viewers were too “smart” by this point. Giving a better in-ring performance, being more entertaining in promos and backstage skits and having an edgier, more interesting character we’re all factors in getting over by the late ‘90s going into the aughts. So what was Hogan trying to accomplish here by refusing to do business the right way? Credit and respect where it’s due to Hogan-he’s the Babe Ruth of pro-wrestling, after all-but honestly he didn’t have as much talent in his whole body as Shawn Michaels had in his pinky toe! If Hogan was the Babe Ruth of wrestling, then Michaels was the Pete Rose, or Charlie Hustle!

I’ve always found his promos boring as all hell-not to mention stilted and awkward when he got older-his move-set and ring-work were lackluster, almost all of his hot feuds ended in a disappointing match, and then of course there’s all the careers (and companies) he’s destroyed through his self-serving politics. Hulk Hogan was basically the John Cena of the 80s, except the average fan back then wasn’t “smart” enough to the game to see he was being “shoved down our throats” so they just thought it was awesome that someone was booked like an invincible superman. People caught onto his stale act and started voicing their displeasure through boos just in time for Biscoff to turn him heel. He wasn’t an especially good heel, either, but it was interesting for awhile to see Dark Side Luke/Evil Superman, and of course the biggest babyface is gonna make the biggest heel when he turns. Hogan got really lucky, basically. Vince should’ve pushed Macho Man to the moon in the 80s! He had a better character, better promos, and a better work rate. Randy Savage should be remembered as the #1, most famous of all time.

Michaels didn't need his career elevated by getting a push from Hogan at this point. The bigger legend won, it was the right call in a one time match. This has nothing to do with who can execute suplexes better, or who is a better worker, or whatever else smarks think equals greatness in pro wrestling.

Michaels was a better wrestler than Hogan just not as iconic. Hogan sells for no one and only developed real exciting wrestling skills after his NWO heel turn. NWO'S Hollywood Hulk Hogan was better than anything Shawn Michaels ever was or would become. A Michaels defeat of Hogan is as ridiculous as him winning against Yokozuna and Vader. Michaels deserved the loss. He is just not as iconic and sucked after his injury.
