Legendary F1 playboy Eddie Irvine talks about the crazy Monaco 1996 wet Grand Prix, where only four cars finished, and explains how he invented a new start mode for Ferrari. And he remembers legendary Monaco partys and Ferrari teammate Michael Schumacher throwing ice cubes on people when he was drunk...

I can't believe I found proof that Eddie Irvine jump started a F1 car. I have told so many people this story and they all say it never happened. I remember watching on RTE in Ireland. Thank you Eddie for confirming this. You are indeed a legend!

DOK Eddie actually did the jump start twice in Monaco that weekend. in the pre-race morning warmup, he stalled at the hairpin and that's when he performed the jumpstart (saw it live on Eurosport). and then in the race, after the Salo incident in the hairpin, he repeated what he already learned. Eddie was lucky that the steep gradient allowed him to experiment, and rewrite history

He' a fantastic guy, and he was a fantastic racing-driver, and he came so close to take the F-1 Championship in '99, I for one would have loved it, if the lesser car hed won the Championship for once, and I'm sure that it would had happen, if he had passed Marc Gené in the Minardi in the third to last race in '99 at the Nürburgring...

TBF Irvine would have won Monaco 96 if Panis didn't crash into him. But also, anyone would have won Monaco 96 if if if hahaha

Funny he doesn't remember 1996 incident as I remember it like yesterday.

I remember it well because it was the craziest race ever in which only 4 cars finished and Panis won. I was following Salo and Hakkinen back then. So Irvine, Salo and Hakkinen were driving in that order (Irvine was couple laps down though I think..) and close to the end of the race Irvine went wide on Mirabeau and hit the guard rails, then Salo hit back of Irvine and Hakkinen back of Salo. They were all out but Salo was classified fifth and Hakkinen sixth as there were no more cars left in the race. But I really remember it like yesterday especially Hakkinen jumping out of his car.. (I was a big fan of him..)

I was very into F1 in the nineties.. some might say obsessive.. there are a lot of things related to Hakkinen that I remember well.. but I "retired" when Mika did :-)

I loved 90s F1. Hakkinen was my favourite. My favourite driver of all time. I like him even more now in 2021. I loved Irvine also in 90s, only Hakkinen and Schumacher better than Irvine, but I dislike Irvine now. Irvine is a hypocrite now about politics. But Mika Hakkinen, the best.

The views alone show how uninterested people are in this bullshit driver
