The radio/stereo's weren't placed behind a flap due to them getting stolen "back in the day", they were put behind a flap because Pininfarina felt that they were too ugly to be on display inside a Ferrari.
The 348 is often being compared to the F355 with the latter judged as ‘so much better’. Well, it was better, but the 360 was much better than the F355. And the F430 so much better than a 360. It’s simply progress. But the 348 is the only one that had the questionable honor of being slagged off by the CEO of the company itself, just because there was a regime change going on.
Montezemolo probably was unable to drive the car properly, which requires actual work, reason for which he claims that stoplight insult by the Golf GTI. Maybe he needed an automatic... That said, the F355 is simply a reworked 348, to the extent that the doors are interchangeable and the interior is pretty much the same. It's not a new model, but an upgrade of an existing one.
