You could take I-5 or US 101 to get from San Francisco to northern California, but why not kick back and take in all the views, the curves, and the foggy, salty air along the coast? This drive takes you all the way from the Golden Gate Bridge to the end of Highway 1 at Leggett, California. Last year for my 16th birthday my dad and I rode this on our bikes but from north Humboldt to fort bragg and watching this and seeing all the beautiful views brought back some incredible memories!

Just got back from trip to California. Drove from Redwood Valley over to Fort Bragg and down Shoreline Hwy to San Fran. What an experience. Highly recommend it!!

A 60-minute , 1-hour video from San Francisco to Leggett, California. Yes I "can" take US 101 and I-5 to get from Francisco to northern California. But I-5 is not that close to the Pacific Ocean coast, except for I-5 between Los Angeles and San Diego. US 101 runs parallel close to the Pacific Ocean coast. US 101's southern terminus is in Downtown Los Angeles. So that's why between L.A. and Diego, I-5 runs close to the Pacific Ocean coast. The entire US 99 was replaced by I-5, but I pretend that US 99 was returned, running parallel between US 101 and I-5 (in California, Oregon, and Washington). LOVE THE VIDEO AND TUNE!

I keep getting recommendations for this California coast videos. I'm happy to see that you called it the correct name and not PCH. for some reason tons of tour guides and RU-vid videos in recent years are incorrectly referring to this as the PCH. which is understandable but incorrect. I love going north (From SF). I love going south too. Just love the California coast.

Well in Southern California it’s PCH up north it’s known as Cabrillo Hwy or just Highway 1

It was good! very friendly person working there, and a nice room. Reasonable price -- something hard to find on the coast.

I did this in August. I've also done the coast in March. I don't think there's a bad time of year to do it, since the weather stays pretty constant throughout winter along the coast.

With a planted car, aggressive pace, and light traffic, 5 hours plus any stops. You will inevitably have to stop and wait at one lane segments because parts of the road wash out nearly continuously.

i think so, but the incredible number of tight twisty turns along the coast can get to ya if you're not up for that

I would not recommend it at all. The PCH is an extremely twisty road that attracts people who want to carve turns on it. If you take a large vehicle out there, at a minimum you will have to use turnouts all day or face the rage of other drivers, and at worst you could hit something on the narrow road. Your better option with a Class C is to take 101 most of the way and use a direct access road to whatever town you're going to. No matter the route, you'll enjoy sweeping ocean views.

unfortunate its so time compressed. un natural speed creates sort of car sick feeling. the acual drive is leisurely, feels totally different than thi: would prefer in something closer to real time.. music repetitive and nervewracking.

The speed of this video makes it annoying when it could be enjoyable if not so hurried. I absolutely hate what you did with one of America's most beautiful, relaxing drives. Do it right or don't do it at all!!!

Thank you for your comments. This is one hour long, in time-lapse form. In real time, it would be at least six times that. I doubt most people would want to watch 6+ hours at real-time speed.

You will also find slower (and longer) versions cut into segments on my RU-vid channel. You may prefer them. You can also adjust the playback speed in the video settings.
