Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron re-team 12 years after "The Paperboy" for a very different kind of messy entanglement in "A Family Affair." Efron plays a vain movie star whose long-suffering assistant (Joey King) is fed up with his constant demands. But when Efron's character shows up at her house -- and meets her widowed mom (Kidman) -- sparks fly. This is a glossy, escapist rom-com in the tradition of Nancy Meyers. This movie is not very good and I worked on this movie as an extra and you could tell it was going to be a calamity because the dialogue felt so corny even on set but Nicole Kidman and Joey King were so sweet and nice to me. So meeting them was worth it.

I think you have summed it up. But good to know you had a pleasant experience working with the leads. But the whole movie is just corny childish whatever you call it. I am adding my 2 cents. Background - A young woman Joey King works as an assistant for a famous movie star Zac Efron. Complications arise when her mother Nicole Kidman begins an affair with the movie star. Likes - Honestly none. Dislikes - Almost everything. Neither is the plot anything to write about but even the execution is very poor. The humor is very childish if you can call it humor. And it seems this entire movie was shot in one take. Everybody seemed disinterested and in a hurry. Its one one thing to be funny but its totally different when nothing seems serious or convincing. I mean with due respect Joey King and Nicole Kidman even with their sweetness aren't really the greatest acting talents but if somebody as talented as Kathy Bates is trivialized you can judge how bad the movie is. Final Thoughts - I really could not understand the idea behind A Family Affair. How did Netflix make this movie ? The movie stood on a weak ground and it required a really good screenplay to bring some energy to it. To make it a watchable comedy. Unfortunately the screenplay is so ordinary and the dialogues are so corny that this movie ends up as an offence to the viewers. Now Tarot has some competition for the worst movie of the year. I give this a 2/10.

I was going to ask if it was another attempt by Netflix to do a Hallmark movie but the last half of the video answered it. Although I do wonder why they did not wait to drop it closer to Christmas.

I found myself fast forwarding through the scenes that didn't advance the plot, which were plentiful. I wish the writers would have mined the sibling type relationship that the Efron and King characters had, alternating between familiar and fighting, and gotten a huge crunchy pay off introducing Mom into the mix. Seems like the King character should have had her own epiphany about how her mom didn't need another self obsessed person in her life as she was enough. Instead we get a side character alluding to the daughter's self absorption. By the time the market scene is set up, I had lost interest. I was left wondering if the people making it had as well. They didn't even bother to reshoot the bad parking job at the market, for a continuity match later. Maybe I wouldn't have noticed it if the story was more engaging? The same thing happened with Efron's face. 🤔

Really enjoy you guys. Need to check your privilege. This movie is bad. This is a bad, bad movie. None of the jokes are funny. The music is terrible. I don't know what planet you guys are on that. You'll give this a great review and then something else, which actually has far better enjoyment values. You'll judge it much more. Harshly. Like I don't understand. Are you judging movies on a bell curve or something? Because it's on Netflix, is it getting a softer grade? I don't do that personally. I imagine that if I paid to see this in the theater, what would I give it? And this would be like a 2 out of 10 like

Ah. Liza Koshy, her type of movie. However, escapism or not, there is a hidden challenge in watching the two leads as they happen to be walking ad pillars of vanity surgery. Kidman's face has reached a state that overtly shows they all miss the point to stop with procedures; and Efron, also with his ballooned muscle mass, appearing eagerly gaunt only thanks to bucal fat removal. We would not have the energy to condone that. It's an epidemic.

I wouldn’t say garbage. It is done very good for what it is = fluffy, escapism, rom com. It is not expected to be Shakespeare or anything Oscar bait. took a bit to get used to Nicole in a more fluffy role as she typically is in more dramatic pieces.
