I remember that "Marchers In Orange" was the first GBV song to absolutely hypnotize me. It sounded like a found recording from the field of my imagination. Still delivers the goose bumps..

on some days, the best GBV album...but only some days

My GF at the time,now my wife, had Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes in the mid 90's and I just could not get into GbV. The recordings were just so lo-fi. Then we went to see them live and I became a convert. Blown away by the power of their live show. Demos wildly pelvic thrusting, sweating profusely, looking like a heart attack was imminent and Bob just being Bob with lots of high kicks in the 90's. If lo-fi was their aesthetic why would they ditch it live? They could have replicated some of what was recorded live? Never understood that. Now I have grown to love the lo-fi era of GbV recordings. Vampire on Titus is probably the most lo-fi of them all.

Did you notice that the outro guitar lick is lifted entirely from REM's "Green Grow the Rushes"? So cool!

Lo-fi is driven by economic reasons more than aesthetic, playing and recording on cheap battered equipment as being all you can afford. Exposure and imitation makes it an aesthetic.

Your amazing! Please continue doing these after you do space gun . I would love to hear your opinions on a kid marine video ! Or a mist king urth song by song review ! All of youtube and not a single soul was reviewing gbv (not one) until you came along . If I play all your videos in order , I get a way cooler version of "closer you are book" . AmaZing book but u give us an extra layer with your options on each song . Thanks for doing these!

this has been very good information about the story of guided by voices enjoyed very much so but why say you disagree with pollards lyrics when he used the words f*gg*t in his song thats his own choosing let it be lets remember it's adam & eve not adam and steve god destroyed the people of sodom and gomorrah for commiting indecency for lusting after men instead of women it's wrong no matter what even though it exists today so don't disagree with anothers beliefs just let it be
