Highlights from stage 7 of the Tour de France 2023. Only Paris has hosted more stages than Bordeaux, but the city has not been visited by the race since 2010. This year, it welcomes a flat 169.9km stage from Mont-de-Marsan, and should be another day for the sprinters to do battle.

I have written a mail to UCI, stating my concern for how sprinting is evolving on the biggest stage in the world. I hope as many as possible will do the same so we the fans can make a change for the safety of the riders. Maybe they wont listen to the teams but they will have to listen to the fans, the foundation of cycling, if enough do the same!
@1dree1
@1dree1 Год назад
There are some nasty and chaotic sprints where you have to avoid riders and thus have a dirty line. Sometimes that's just what happens in racing. Here on the other hand there was no reason to do so: Enough space, nothing to avoid. It's totally unnecessary for Philipsen to ride this way. For Girmay there was nothing left to do than breaking or both would have gone down. Quite odd too that van der Poel led out from far right over to far left only to have Philipsen look across, see Cavendish (with Girmay on his wheel) and move over to the left again and fight for an occupied space. Astonishing that no team seems to complain anymore. We can't just close our eyes just because nobody crashed. It's the very same behaviour (changing sides without any obstacle to avoid) which caused Jakobsen to almost lose his life.

@@sherv25 Not blind, did you watch? It’s a TdF sprint, not a group ride. Girmay needed to kick harder and be more aggressive. But he wasn’t catching Cavendish’s wheel anyway.

How would hold cavs wheel if you’re being pushed against the barriers. No matter how hard you pedal it would still be the same. The issue here is that Jasper P always does this thing same what happen to Wout. Good thing these riders are smart.

I have Met CAV about fourteen or fifteen times and have over 20 pieces of memorabilia that he has autographed with me and for me and has taken seven or eight pictures with me over the years and I am absolutely gutted that he is out of the race and most likely won't be returning because he announced his retirement already. LITERALLY GUTTED!!!! EVERY TIME I SAW HIM HE WAS MORE THAN HAPPY TO TAKE PICTURES WITH ME AND SIGN MY UNION JACK AND MY ST. GEORGE FLAG AND SEVERAL OTHER THINGS. HE ALWAYS THANKED ME FOR MY SUPPORT AND TOOK THE TIME TO TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS WITH ME. I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS HE WAS ALWAYS MORE THAN RESPECTFUL TO ME AND SHOWED PLENTY OF LOVE TO HIS FANS. He will always stand as number one in my book as a sprinter and as a man 😥🇬🇧

ASO don't enforce the rules. They organiser the Tour (as well as a number of other races). It's the UCI commissaires who make the decisions. They reviewed the footage and decided that sprint was OK.

Nice to see the Eritreans have quietened down after past season or 2 saying bini is the best and I'm writing this the day of stage 11 and we still haven't seen anything decent from him!!! I can understand being proud of a cyclist and rooting for your countrymen but 80% of the fans of bini are not fans they are just national lists that don't know a damn thing about the sport and how it works and to show respect to other people and towards other riders. I can admire talent, but not deviation. Philipsen has a different set of rules to the Peloton. MVdP was relegated (pointlessly) for far less on the last sprint.
