In the US, basswood sheets and strip wood are available at JoAnn’s. I use that as I can’t find obeche locally at any craft stores or big box stores. I find Gorilla wood glue at Walmart. Home Depot sells small sample pots of house paint and wood stain. The filler here is called Spackle. The lightweight type is perfect for our uses. The guillotine cutter is also known as miter shears. Exacto knives are readily available in the US. Just putting this out there in case any of this stuff can’t be shipped overseas.
You were the first person I saw that used Gorilla wood glue. This was long ago on one of your videos. Best tip ever! It is available readily at most stores in the USA.
I wanted the swan knife but I live in the USA and they can’t mail it here. Oh well no worries! Found something else to use. Thanks for tutorial Julie and all your work you put into them💜💜💜
I found one that sold only the knife, no blades. That was also on Etsy. Came from Australia. These are not sold in the USA for some reason. I bought my first one from Julie a few years back, I like it so much I wanted a spare!
I use Olfa sab-10b blade in a 9mm Olfa handle. I don't use the silver handle 'cause it wiggles, so you can't put much pressure with your finger when you make cuts.
i so wanted the swann knife, but will not ship here, i did find one simmular on amazon that fits the blades i had bought. I LOVEeeeeee the hand gilotine that i purchased from you, because the blades can be easily changed :) Right tools for the right job!!!
Good info, Julie. My favorite of all the tools is the Guillotine. I couldn't buy the Swann Morton craft knife because I live in the U.S.A. I also use the Gorilla glue.
I did get a Swann Morton retractable knife two years ago and I love it! Also, I finally tried Gorilla Wood Glue after using tacky glue for a long time. It is so much better for so many things. So thanks for all the good tips!
Gorilla Glue comes in gallon jugs, at least in the States. However, I would not recommend getting it. I bought some at the beginning of the pandemic so I could lock myself up for two years and make doll houses and furniture. I poured out bits of the glue into a smaller gorilla glue dispenser. Problem was that the glue that was still in the jug got thicker and thicker as time went by, making it harder and harder to transfer it to the smaller container. Also, I have since watch RU-vid videos in which folks more expert than I say that PVA does become less effective over the course of a year or more (perhaps because the water is evaporating and thus changing the composition of the product. Who knows.) Anyway, thought I'd share that in case anyone is tempted to buy the super large size. I suggest against it.
All extremely helpful and useful tips as always Julie!😊.. I recently purchased some Polyfilla because I saw it in one of your books. I have everything else, from watching your turorials. I don't think I heard you mention basswood.🤔.. Is that a reasonable substitute for building? The obeche sells out really quickly in your store🤣
Yes, basswood is another of the woods I use, and is slightly better quality than the Obeche, in that it has a closer grain, so is a bit smoother. Jelutong is another good wood, but a little bit more expensive. Hope that helps. :)
@@JulieWarren Green leaf has 2 house styles that are the right style but I don't like the quality of their kits I don't like tab construction. I found a nice kit from Hobby Lobby called Victorian Alison Jr. i will not make the exterior in planks i will convert it to a late Victorian brick and black Iron gingerbread. I bought a Chinese wooden punch cut design fan actually 2xs of them for a wrought Iron spiral staircase leading to the roof i found some things on line showing how to construct the stairs. the kit i have has 3 floors i will put grandpa in the attic with his bed and office and library everything he needs to do his invention projects maybe a box pull chain toilet and sink so he does not have to climb all those stairs to use the bathroom. (and a bed for his dog). im putting a trap door in the tower room I just hope it looks as good when I have it finished as it looks in my head LOL
I was thinking of going over to gorilla glue, but it does not dry clear, it have an light brown color. At least the ones i see here in Norway. Do yours dry clear?
have you ever done and arts and crafts style home the 1890s 1910s ? the craftsman stye Stickley furniture im looking to do a steam punk house im thinking this style mixed with a bit of Art Nouveau sprinkled in i bought a late Victorian house kit a turret attic room and a flat roof i plan on building a dirigible craft and making the landing on the roof Im having trouble finding dolls i see you don't use them but i would like my doll house to be playable not just display
