A Fight Breaks Out Between Female Otters While Camping 

I wouldnt call aty completely non aggressive considering he tried to assault hana when they first met. Since then hana has been EXTRA guarded around the other otters. She used to be nice and welcoming to aty but after that she cant stand being near him. I dont think kotsumet really consider hana at all on this situation and just call her hysterical.

Hana was just trying to say Hi to Aty., did not mean to fight or attack Ui.

But she never hated him. It's worth noting that once Aty _stopped_ attempting to mate with her, Hana accepted him as her friend. Other than that, she's just moody

@@spoonlegends5875 the reason is very simple. Mankinds in the entire history around 10 centuries are nothing different to mammals. Japanese anime is one of cultures that stimulates mammals instinct. You would be able to see alot of these simililar situation in any field such as movies dramas TV show video game or even in an actual society

Yes, creating a sense of individual security around those who feel threatened by a confrontational situation (even if it's one in part of their own making--or of one of their own making; Ui seems to be just slightly more aggressive than Hana in these settings) can help defuse and reduce the charge between them. "Lowering the temperature" might also involve putting them each in their cages after a very brief encounter--don't let them get habituated to their own aggressive responses for any time at all--while the otters that play well together don't have to suffer for the others' issues. Fish might also help.... ;--}

@@dellaroux I just commented something similar to someone. I would add that the males should not be around when they are getting to know each other because this is causing the problem to be worse than it needs to be. I slowed the video down to see what happened when Kotaro got bit. It appears Ui was making her way down the person's arm then lost her footing then began to panic. She was already on edge & started to bite right after slipping. I'm not saying this as any type of excuse but I wanted to see if she deliberately attacked Kotaro. I don't know if she would have bit if she didn't lose her footing but is yet another reason they shouldn't have them all together while knowing there is a problem between 2 of them.

@@auburnstar27 Yes, the important thing about experiments is that you sometimes learn what doesn't work as well as what does, and you have to modify your experimental plan from those findings if the experiment is to be worthwhile.

​@@auburnstar27 Yah! *(as you noted, Ui started to slip and then the leash held her up in the air and she was grabbing for anything to stop the fall.) I could see that too when I viewed it slower. Separating the boys from the group so that the girls can meet without those relationships being in their immediate concerns, seems like a good suggestion!!!! Nice. Another idea for the future (if reacting to another situation like how this one began) might be to then take Aty and Ui away from the group for an hour and have a walk and swim alone out of sight, before then returning for more interaction again. Maybe this would help Ui realize that she still has Aty fully when it is important and then seeing their friends again would go a bit better the 2nd time around on that same day. (She seemed to adjust well the last time once going home with Aty alone without the extra members of the day which confirmed she and Aty still were together solely and that that was just a visit type interaction and not a permanent one.) The boys are really impressive staying calm, despite the worrisome commotion so nearby with their dear ones. It is amazing how well they all do with the humans, as well.

Yes. I don't think Ui has any real problem with Kotaro. In this video if you look closely, Ui fell off Yukie-san's shoulder (nearly hanging herself), panicked, and lashed out at the nearest thing, which happened to be Kotaro. Princess Hana is not nearly as forgiving. Letting them fight it out is a bad idea because I doubt either would back down and it would result in two dead princesses.

Hana and Ui are both feisty, energetic personalities. Sometimes, they can just be too much alike to get along right away.

Even Aty was shaken and afraid of Ui's rage! 😳🤭😇

Perhaps not having them all together at once might help matters. Have they tried having Hana & Ui meet separately without the males around? Just a thought perhaps being neither has a problem with being in a cage, let them be brought gradually closer while still having a barrier of protection between them.

@@auburnstar27 yes good suggestion but otterman must lead the way as he is the alpha otter in the hierarchy. He must show himself as a good friend to Hana in front of Ui watching at a safe distance, by greeting Hana and even stroking and offering fish to Hana who likes salmon treats.

@@alethiatru4132 Otterman is good with otters but he is still learning as he goes. As far as I know he hasn't said he has any previous experience in animal behavior or training. Did you watch the video Kotsumet put up yesterday from this trip? If not you may want to view the additional footage because Kotaro got bit & I'm not sure if the woman who had both Kotaro & Ui got bitten too. My concern is that someone or an otter will get hurt. Kotaro could become leary after being put in a situation where he needlessly gets harmed, Aty was shaking because he has dealt with Ui before she was as tame as she is now. Ui isn't completely tamed & forcing interaction may cause setbacks which are no fault of her own doing. Once again I'm not trying to be mean but the voice of common sense. If Ui is to make progress this isn't the way to go. Yes Aty may enjoy swimming with other otters but Ui shouldn't be involved in these outings at this point. She should be in 1 on 1 situations for the time being & work their way from that.

Great idea. There must be a solution to at least allow gatherings without so much conflict. No ones having fun if they are getting attacked, so keeping the girls at a safe distance from each other and even the boys when they are aggressive should be paramount. Allowing the girls to be in the same area while in cages might help also. They are able to smell and hear the other, but no contact. They seem like very intelligent animals so having time outs might work as well. This free for all is not working and it’s stressful for the boys. It’s up to the humans to keep everyone safe and happy. It takes work and organization but there’s a way to keep everyone safe and content, even if the girls never get along.

It doesn't matter if Ui is not yet ready to socialize. Otterman must be proactive about it or Ui will never progress. He has to go by trial and error because this is new for him too. Videos were aired out of order. Komugi met Ui AFTER this and Otterman decided to try having Aty far away for their meeting. It worked. Sure, it's a no-brainer to us with hindsight, but he didn't know then if Ui would be _more_ stressed without Aty.

@@Soufriere84 I am sorry, not sure who Komugi is. Also, I don’t have the insight you seem to have on when these videos are released. I assumed they were in order. It doesn’t matter really. I understand Otterman needs to try with Ui, or they will never progress, but after a few moments of extreme aggressive behavior, pull away and regroup. You don’t have to be a specialist in animal behavior to realize nothing is going to be accomplished when not just one, but two animals are engaging in extremely combative behavior. That’s just my opinion. I believe physical safety and emotional stability come first. The trial was 30 seconds into the ordeal, the error was allowing it to continue and progress. There needs to be a point of swift disengagement. Perhaps this is why otters should be left in their normal habitat without the influence of people. They would either work it out, or not. But these are domesticated animals now, and people are responsible for their well being. Hopefully hindsight will be a consideration next time, that’s all I meant to convey. Be well.
