Think the issue with these courses is that they have to boil down a super complex topic with a lot of info and heavy execution into a manageable time for a college course. I think they're meant to get students interested in these topic, and hopefully they can keep it as a hobby, interest, or skill after they're done. It would be amazing if they got someone like Max to teach it tho. You might not come out of it being an incredible player that wins tournaments in that time frame, but you're gonna come out with a shitton of knowledge about the games, culture, history, and knowledge on how to approach a new game and learn it to a point where you'll find it enjoyable, straight from someone that has been in the trenches from many POVs.

I mean, one thing to consider is that depending on the school, it might not cost anything to add an elective for full time students. At my school your tuition covers anything between 12-18 credits for fulltime students.

Who would pay to get to a mid level at a fighting game? It’s for people less than 100 hour. So instead of going to a school for it. Why not try actually playing the game? This is for people who normally don’t care about fighting games but one day got inspired to be mid at a game

If I want to learn about fighting game in history. I look up a RU-vid video. I want to learn how to play fighting games at a higher level and I don’t mean 3rd Strike. I don’t have 3rd Strike

honestly i was just thinking the whole time what if like someone who participates in tourneys were to join this class, like are really good players not allowed to join ? I mean ill be honest i see this elective as throw away easy credits while i take cooking or language . Still it is interesting that someone is trying to make a fighting game course in 2024

For an "easy"elective this seems like alot of work with the 8 written assignments tbh. I took salsa lessons as a class in college that was an easy A and besides dancing which going it on weekends that happened anyways there was no HW

@sonicsol I don’t think they should’ve started with street fighter anyways because people say that street fighter is “easy” but it’s not I would much rather you teach someone how to play strive instead because of how much easier it is to actually get good in that game in street fighter you have to learn how to play neutral and how to be aggressive and when to back off and give up space street fighter has always been neutral heavy and that’s the hardest part of a fighting game which is the neutral knowing what buttons you need to throw out and hot to check drive rush. It is so much harder then strive
