God i hope this update also re-adds creature naming, I miss that a lot. while the auto generated names are fine, i want to be able to give custom names to them.
Wessel Stoop is truly the ideal post-scarcity man who can fully dedicate himself to the arts. No but, like, seriously, how does he play so many instruments so well while also being an indie game developer and a biology nerd?
These are all digital (virtual) instruments. You only have to play keys. Anyhow, the composition, arrangement and production of this music is very nice and well thought!
@@edocasteel There was also an electric double bass and a Cajon. Honestly though you don't need to be a great player to compose great music, with the magic of DAWs you could do almost anything.
@@Leyva0scarVRL I didn't know that. My assumption was made by looking at the MIDI data showed in the video. Truly Wessel is a good musician and great composer. I like the way he explained his musical choices also in earlier videos. I like that.
I was daydreaming about a map/generation/environment feature to this game earlier today on my commute from work.. I'm intrigued by this thumbnail already 😆
I have know idea if this is already possible in the game already but neoteny should be possible. EX: an organism that has an aquatic larval form and a adult land form, should be able to lose the adult form and retain the larval or juvenile aquatic features, and the reverse should be possible. A new species may discard its aquatic form and maintain, the land form
Man is making the bedt evolution game possible I haven't seen many youtubers uploading about this game But with the new challenge mode i can already see a lot of competition And now we can save our fav creatures too Now we can make things like "What if i create this creature and see how it will change itself in a warmer and colder planet"
Quick idea, if Venus flytraps are an option for the carnivorous flowers mentioned in the first devlog, I think pitcher plants or other carnivorous flowers could add more variety. Also, squid tentacles would be soooo cooool and would fit so well! Amazing update!👍
when i first saw this game about a year ago, it was so hard to understand i came back to it a few months ago and everything clicked! your game is so awesome and i love the versatility of it!!
I feel like natural barriers would be super super interesting, perhaps there could be an island cliff type, or a rafting mechanic so that smaller animals that were pregnant or gravid would have a higher chance of getting rafted to an island they normally wouldn't be able to get to. And larger animals would likely be landlocked or regionlocked based off of certain things, this could slow down all of the animals spreading everywhere in a super cool way and allow for different regions to evolve very differently, and avoid getting certain species wiped out by a more efficient species that maybe lives on another island. I find that usually when I make a world with two different species one of them spreads out everywhere and the other is outcompeted almost every time so maybe giving evolution a chance for them to carve out a nieche before they get outcompeted would be a good game mechanic.
This was really nice! I had never even thought about anything like this sort of daily challenge community event! AND any challenge can theoretically be replayed by simply changing your date! Perfect job as always, mr Breadstick! Also you KNOW the playerbase is going to get wet just at the thought of better frames. :)
This might be a bit random, but it would be cool to see a 'Sappling x Bibites' steam bundle once The Bibites fully releases on Steam. Both games have a similar audience and I think a lot of people would be willing to buy both in a bundle. You guys could call it the 'Evolution Bundle'. Sounds sick tbh.
"Acceptable framerates" say no more, it's all I've ever wanted 🤯😍🥹🥳 Seriously though, everything you've shown from this update looks exciting and fun to play with, but the improvements to optimization are definitely the biggest and most impressive part to me. I'm lucky enough to be getting a new and better gaming laptop soon, but the fact that a game this complex runs (or even just walks) at all on my current shitty, busted up hand-me-down laptop is already a feat. I hope that this upgrade will mean that more people who don't have access to really good computers can play and enjoy this game, without the frustration of one of the main modes being borderline unplayable at times. Can't wait to get my grubby little paws on that beta branch on October 31st!
Every single update you mention for this game is exciting. I don't have much to add aside from "very cool, keep it up!", but I will post that anyways if only to boost engagement on the video
Damn, I can't believe I missed the premier. Regardless I want to offer some ideas in regards to mushrooms. Since you don't want poop, when an animal dies mushrooms can grow from the carcass which aids in restoring nutrients to the soil. Something similar should also occur with plants, with a physical representation of a dead plants that mushrooms can breakdown. Finally, underwater variations of mushrooms and physical representation of flotsam detritus. Since plants originally evolved from marine algae, a large amount of organic material is needed. With the idea being detritus would come in from the oceans, mushrooms would grow from this and introduce minerals into the soil, spreading as they go.
The more time passes, the more I am amazed by the development this game is taking, but even more by the fact that this mammoth work was done by a single person. This update lays the foundation for improving scenarios such as aquatic and aerial. Below are some things that would be very welcome for the future: - diversify the algae editor and connect the plant editor to allow switching between the two even in the sandbox phase (perhaps instead of adding the plant editor icon as a part) - as mentioned, having an editor for algae similar to that of plants would be very useful in the case of oceanic planets, where much (if not all) biodiversity is underwater - diversify the wings already present for advantages and disadvantages. I am mainly based on the fact that, if a terrestrial species has 2 legs, flight is not easily developed. It would be useful if, for example, the pterosaur-like wings allowed quadrupedal and 2-legged walking but with the impossibility of climbing. The bat-like wing allows climbing but is susceptible to lower temperatures. The bird-like wing no climbing or quadrupedal walking but high versatility for temperatures - in addition to the turtle shell, add crocodile-like osteoderms, perhaps less protective but with greater resistance to high temperatures
What Ever Is Wessel Stoop Is Cooking It Gonna Be Great! Also No Milkbug For You Milkbug Cult (Sent Out Flying Hunter To Hunt All Milkbug) I SHALL EAT MELON! (Eat The Melon Like a Man Who Eat Watermelon In No Time)
FINALLY, OPTOMIZATION! I downloaded the previous (or well, current) update but just can't play it on my sh*tty PC. Looking forward to trying again once this new update is out
Moss and lichen colonises rocky terrain and creates topsoil, this then allows plants to grow. This is how rocky islands become verdant. I think this would be great for the game, in terms of inhabiting uninhabitable islands.
I think it would be cool to see burrowing animals in a future update being even smaller than most creatures and would add a lot more way for animals to evolve. I could see a mound being a sign of a burrowing animal and would stay within the said range of the burrow and for water creatures they could be crabs or bobbit worms like that could catch small animals that come too close.
OK Mr Sapling Dev I totally rescind my previous comment. This is some of the best nature game design I've ever seen, and the scope / variety you're trying to fit in is really comprehensive. As far as making the sandbox creator less overwhelming - could the part selector be something other than a tree? Could tree be an alternate, fullscreen view to track progress in regular gameplay, then in the sandbox parts are selected from a matrix or dropdown list or something?
So many great new ideas! I really think your game could get crazy popular on twitch, if you wrote some way to have interactions between twitch chat and the game world.
You could actually add a roguelike mode where the game keeps creating random species and random changes to the environment the longer your species is alive but, different to the other modes, your species has to die before you can evolve it and try again.
My main concern is the performance of the game, it can turn into slog in 10000 years. I hope you manage to improve it! Edit: holy hell, he read our minds! Thank you!
This game now has so many features you should dedicate a while to optimization and refactoring, I'd be very interested in seeing the nitty gritty of how stuff is optimized and refactored
I think you should add another challeng wich is to put foreign animals or plants into the world to se if the animals and plants of the players can live for some amunte of time. And pls can you add that very big animals can crush and kill smaller animals and plants so that can give a chance to appear some big plants. And the instinct to kill eggs make to apper again becouse nearly avery animal in real life can destroy it(if the egg is smaller than animal). I love that you put my idea for saving and sharing animals and plants.
I love your game and your unlockable body parts idea is real cool but I wouldn't make it so sandbox mode is effected by having to have a body part unlocked.
Please improve the camera movement, if it was a functional copy of minecrafts spectator mode that would be perfect. As of right now, it is extremely clunky and unpleasant to use and makes it difficult to observe the world as it evolves.
is it possible to make a public library for creatures, if so you should have competitive modes, where your creature needs to out perform the other, e.g if yours has more creatures than the randomly found one then you win
Man optimizing this game would be hell, but I hope you make like a full update where its only like optimization maybe a few new features, it might make it easier for you in the future to get it even more optimized
Daily challenge would be nice, however would using today's date as seed open up a vulnerability where users can fake their computer's date and then gain access to any potential date challenge? Ofcourse if it's a casual fun community activity it doesn't matter. But in case there are real competition at stake we might need to find more secure option. Btw great stuff.
Wessel!! I THINK I HAVE A SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM WITH PLATE TECTONICS, what if the only think that changes when a continent is move is the elevation?? Inagine to move a continent with high levels of ground water to a part of the map that not, create marine mass extinctions closing oceans, or... well, I have so many ideas about the implications of this...
