i'm loving the natural evolution of the party's role-playing abilities - Prudence communing with enemy parties and considering betrayal, Dob's obliviousness and his compulsion to adopt every npc they meet, Egbert and his everything (mike is playing up to the negative wisdom modifier really well!!) and i can't wait for the next two parts!!!!

For anyone interested, Kuo-toa (the fishmen) were simple creatures who were captured by the thousands by the Mind Flayers to use as slaves across their many-planets-spanning empire. When the Mind Flayers' empire collapsed and they abandoned the Kuo-toa, the prolonged psychic subjugation had driven the Kuo-toa mad. With their mind shattered beyond repair, they adopted a religious fervour, and invented their own gods to protect them from threats, such as the Drow in the Underdark; the most revered being Blibdoolpoolp the Sea Mother, most likely invented by a Kuo-toa which 'repaired' a broken human statue by adding the limbs of a crustacean, and in sudden awe of its handiwork, named the resulting form a god. They often end up in their madness worshipping any Aboleths they come across, unaware they are being used for the Aboleth's own ends. The Chuuls were crustaceans the Aboleths modified and gave sentience, which follow their creators' ingrained directives as they have done since the dawn of time. Chuuls carried out the directives of the water-bound Aboleths in their vast empire, before the Aboleth empire crumbled with the rise of the gods, and the Chuuls were cast adrift. They still guard the remains of the Aboleth empire and gather humanoids and treasure, amass magic, and consolidate power. Any Chuuls who encounter an Aboleth will immediately fall back into their old roles, and redirect their compulsions to the service of the Aboleth's sinister purposes. (Johnny is right to say they normally can't speak Infernal. Generally speaking, Chuuls can understand but not speak Deep Speech.)

I just realized something incredibly depressing about Dob. What if, the reason he's adopting everyone, is because he wished he was adopted as a child? He's trying to be the protective, nurturing caretaker he never had. He's actively trying to break the cycle of abandonment, by becoming the thing he wished he had as a child. Dob's character just got way more complex, and a weird mix of "depressingly wholesome." Or maybe I'm just reading too much into their strange, hilarious drive to turn fully grown adults into mature bearded babies.

a couple of things here, the visual through corazon's scope of dob laying in to the fishmans is hilarious, egbert still thinking about the turtle at the end, i hope he wanders off still looking for it while the others continue the main story
