I love that these safety cars are road beasts and are going flat out, yet if the Formula cars are behind them they struggle to keep their tires warm. 😅
This wasnt anywhere near flat out in this vid though lol. You could hear the short shifts and zero tire noise around corners. Sundays race is going to be nuttttty on this track though, holy moly
Wide angle lens. It squished the image which helps when it comes to giving a clearer picture of the road and a sense of speed, but it doesn't do the track justice in terms of width. It's likely way wider than what it appears to be on camera.
I hope Bernd gets lots of practice laps, I fully expect there to be several safety cars this weekend. High speed and close walls gonna mean crashes most likely. And I hope Masi is willing to call the safety car right away, unlike in Baku.
Totally agree what a pointless awful circuit to put F1 into for the penultimate race in a championship decider - looks like a cross between Formula E track and a pit Lane entry - totally wrong for modern F1 ( any F1 dating back to the 60’s!)
@@erikkz you know the engine is the 4l amg v8 right ? and the chassis is the same than the AMG GT ? even the electrical architecture is carried over ...basically, this is a mercedes and that's why mercedes allowed aston be the official car supplier for some GP this season
@@vince207 mate Mercedes doesn't own the sport, the supplier of safety cars is chosen by the FIA, I can promise you this engine is only derived from the AMG 4.5l sports engine and modified to be 4l to fit into the smaller engine bay of the vantage
Best advice ever in the comment section. This is going to be a very fast Monaco. There's really nowhere to overtake except the main straight, and there's no way you can get tight enough in the corners leading up to it.
Seeing this on-board really shows how narrow this circuit is. Couple that with the fresh road surface and it makes the possibility of a Max or Lewis DNF seem that much more likely on Lap 1. I hope the season isn't decided by Lap 1 carnage at a new circuit but I feel like it's on the table more so than I originally thought.
This track looks like a pathway in a gated community! Even cyclists might find it tough to overtake here! Can't wait to hear the radio conversations.....
Into turn 1 will be huge, through turns 2-3 can be alright for RB and Mercedes over slower cars. The long turn at the end, turn 9 I think.. could be alright. Final turn will also be a big one.
I've been watching F1 for over 20 years, and this is one of the first times I can't shake the feeling of "is this going to be ok?" I think the Germans call it an 'unheimlich' feeling.
ive never anticipated a FP1 in a long while. I can't shake the feeling that this place will be punishing many many drivers. The track is all concrete, and ALL mistakes are going to be kissing that concrete!
@@albinorhino6 yeah but this one's different, it's high speed interconnecting corners makes one small mistake crucial for lap times, I've never been excited for any FP1 sessions but here I am waiting now.
@@stud000000079 I’m fairly certain they turn tc and esc off in those. Even if they did have those assists on, it’s not like the car would be impossible to crash. F1 cars used to have tc but it didn’t mean that there were no crashes
Maybe it's just me, but overtaking is gonna be difficult here since: 1. Track is narrow 2. Lack of runoff areas Qualifying will he super important here.
It may be a little bit wider, as the SC camera is using a wide angle lens, you can see that the image is a little bit squeezed vertically and slightly wider horizontally
The track seems like it would be interesting for hotlapping. Now about the race itself, no overtakes are gonna happen, and plenty of crashes and safety car drama awaits.
Tilke: gets criticism for making slow circuits with 90 hairpins and huge run off areas Also Tilke: actually designs a fast flowing circuit with little run off Fans: still criticize him Tilke: Am I a joke to you?
Nah formula E is different in the fact they are nearly all tight corners to show off that sweet electric Accel. this is way too fast and sweepy to be that
When you put Monaco, Singapore and Baku altogether . I see red flags, and multiple safety cars during both quali and race. Expecting a crazy result. And that T1-T2 section is calling for a pile up off the start.
@FRiCKiNBRiAN Incredibly narrow and incredibly quick. I think every single mistake most likely puts you in the wall. Qualifying will be a mess. Wouldn't be surprised if there are at least 3 red flags
Its not nascar or indycar, one big crash and thats it...20 cars only, lets say lap 1 2 cars crash out, after that maybe one random crash 2 cars,16 cars they will seperate with performance and there you go
This should've been a day or Twilight race, the setting looks amazing when the sun is out. At night, it kinda looks like Singapore; it's lacking it's own identity
My prediction, it is going to be a mess! Those who get to do a qualifying lap without traffic are going to be lucky, especially the whole of F1 will be lucky if we are not going to see a car at full speed slamming into a another car which is on an out or inlap and thus slow. No room for mistakes but obviously mistakes are going to be made, what happens if a car does hit the wall and another car coming at full speed? there is nowhere to go to avoid a stranded car. I think this is insanity but of course big money is involved and hence safety goes overboard.
You're absolutely right. They're risking the drivers' and marshalls' lifes and they must be fully aware of it. This track isn't built for F1. It's way too narrow and has too many blind spots for that kind of speed. I'm sensing some Billy Monger action this weekend. And I'm scared. I hope I'm wrong and it will turn out to be a procession. I can live with that.

Completely agree, unfortunately it's highly likely to be accident after accident. Genuinely fearful for the drivers on this one, we can only pray for a safe race
same for monaco, somehow we race there, oh wait both are sponsored by Big Money that's why. tbh, we've got the best, safest drivers, best safest cars I think it's gonna be a great spectacle
@@andrzejsupermocny2386 monaco is different because its a pretty slow circuit. this right here, might be the fastest circuit in the calendar, close to monza. thats very dangerous. think of this circuit as if monaco and monza had a baby
Indeed. Some idiot thought, you know what would be the best cars to trial the circuit with? F2 and F1 cars. Utter stupidity, let's hope we don't have a horrible shunt this weekend.
Locks like somebody will die . I don't know why the treyed there best to built a boring no overtaking extremely dangerous circuit in the middle of a dessert with many slaves drying on the building site
They just finished this track didn't they? So fresh asphalt. (Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Turkey 2020) Slippery surface. With high speed corners. Yeah this is gonna be interesting 😂
Not gonna lie, I'm really scared of probably witnessing another Spa F2 2019. There will definitely be crashes in these walls, and I don't see how the cars won't bounce back on the track.
masi's really gotta be on top of the VSC, SC, and red flags this weekend, really the only way to prevent a 2019 spa F2 situation is lightning quick reflexes with flags and safety cars
theres not many tyres to bounce the cars back, theres less bounce off concreate. my worry is some of the ways the walls come in towards the apex of turns, like 2nd chicane... if you ended up cutting the apex your into a concrete wall with little or any? softening.
With the SAFER (Steel And Foam Energy Reduction) barriers, the cars should dissipate the energy in a more controlled way and not bounce back. I'm not saying it's a 100% safe solution but they have looked specifically at it, and FIA has approved it.
@@bennylloyd-willner9667 they don't even need to bounce back to be on the racingline. With all these swooping blind corners I can see many bad things happen.
I watch f1 races for almost 20 years now. This time, it's the first time I am scared of a track, especially for the sundays race. In my opion they should not start the race to avoid any dangeroues accidents. Spa this year would have been much more safer than this. I hope that no body is gonna be killed!!!
100% with you. This is my 24th season of watching F1 and this gets a massive NOPE from me. And that's the first time i've ever really felt that just from the track itself. Conditions etc? sure, i've felt it before, but this? A lap around a new track before anyone has turned a wheel in anger?, There just seems to be so much possible risk on so many different corners. Especially on the 2nd part of the lap where so much is high speed, has no run off and is very unsighted. I have a horrendous feeling about this place.
I like how they say old tracks are dangerous and ruining them with asphalt runoff areas, but a tight 230+ average speed street circuit is not...($ speaks i think)
The corners are tight, overtaking will be a nightmare on here. I expect lot of safety car incidents. Crashing at turn 1 is very much a possibility. Max & Lewis need to lot more careful, one DNF or any incident will hand the title to the other as overtaking here will not be easy however fast your power unit is. Hopefully, it will be exciting.
People are here in the comments talking about the race and overtaking, I am more worried about the qualifying and free practice sessions, there can be some serious crashes since there isn't much space if any for the slower cars to move over the faster cars, which I think can also lead to slower lap times than those promised. Not to mention all the rumours about the barriers being weaker or more dangerous or something and the fresh road surface as well.
Yup. I was wondering how many red flags there will be throughout the weekend. More than in the whole season so far I guess. I really don't see how they could have designed such a track for F1.
I have to say this track looks really dangerous; specifically from 1:30 - 1:50. Flat out series of bends with a chance for some nasty trajectories into concrete walls at speed and rebounding back onto blind sections of the track. Would Charlie Whiting have approved this?
@Redmond Barry these kinda fences work well in Nascar and Indycar tho, however I’m not sure if they’re well suited for a head on collision. Furthermore, the track is FIA grade 1 rated, so I’m sure its safe enough to race at, otherwise they wouldn’t have approved it
I'm sure I'm not the only one watching this and memorized by the sound of the safety car, especially when it's down shifting going into the turns. All I'm saying is if they ever need a driver (even just as a fill in) I volunteer as tribute! It really would be a memory I'd cherish as well as a ✔ on the bucket list
This looks like a circuit that will produce many safety cars and red flags due to lack of space, very few overtaking options. Looks like the race will be won in Qualy
I just hope everyone gets through this weekend safely, they will be going 160+ mph through some of those corners and because they aren't proper corners they don't have tech pro barriers... We've seen Max's tyre fail on a straight this year at Baku so odds are there will be a tyre failure and high speed collision into those very thin barriers... Saudi and F1 are tempting fate here, I'd like to see the event cancelled until it's safe to race
Actually this track has 1km of safe barriers that has been used in F1 since Baku joined the calendar (Nascar and indy have been using it also for many years
I get what you mean. But they aren’t going to cancel something hundreds of millions of dollars into development over thicker safety barriers. Remember it’s Saudi Arabia of all places. Plus they don’t have the largest space to build a circuit so they have made the best with what they had. Safety engineers know a lot more than we do.
@@braydenmcneal6709 look at 2:15. Imagine the speed the cars will have here, and how if a tyre fails they're going straight into a barrier at almost top speed and at least at a 30 degree angle (similar to grosjean). Safer barrier or not that is going to seriously hurt
Imagine having super slippery tarmac no runoffs narrow track and DRS zones in corners at super high speeds therefor this track is named as The Gateway to Heaven
I'm afraid whatever the order is coming out of Turn 2 is how they're going to run the rest of the race with the exception of some accidents in the tight turns and blind corners. I would expect at least 2 safety cars.
How this track passed FIA standards is beyond me. This will be seriously dangerous for F1 cars going flat out. No run off on most turns with walls up to the curb? Insanity how this is legal, hopefully nobody gets in a serious crash..
Agreed. That last DRS section looks terrifying. 270kph+ through blind corners. If someone drops it into the wall, with another car even 4 seconds behind, there's no chance to avoid a very nasty collision
@@milesrosen2223 Wow I didn’t even think about that part. Yeah that section could be very bad. There could be a 5-10 car pile up if they are all within a second or two of each other in a single file line. Or even up to 4 seconds like you said…very dangerous man.
