I think I would argue that you're not making your list less efficient, you're just making it differently efficient. I don't really know anyone who's going to bring anti-fly against a guard player so you might surprise some people. And if you really zip around the board a bunch and maximize that bomber ability You can get some serious value out of it.

Fun insanity, lord solar can order any astra militarum unit. Have him order your marauder destroyer with duty and honor, then fly it onto a backfield objective and back cap an unsuspecting enemy. Alternatively, give it a take aim! for more reliable dakka. I do the first thing sometimes early game with vulture gunships and a master vox in the unit. Eyebrows get raise, and hilarity ensues

At least this datasheet lists all the weapons, unlike the bomber's sheet

My sister and I are new to 40k, and both have created Space Marine lists for a second army if we get bored with our primaries. She kept hearing about how much aircraft got shafted in 10th without actually knowing their rules, so decided her Raven Guard successor chapter's theme meant she needed to bring every useless aircraft she could. I had to explain to her that the Space Marine codex was not "blessed" with the same useless datasheets many others were, because all their aircraft have the Hover keyword to let them just ignore all the aircraft rules if they start the game deployed. Her list isn't as intentionally bad as she half wanted it to be, but she absolutely has the option to do very foolish things with Stormravens, Stormhawks, and Stormtalons. (convincing her not to also start with a Thunderhawk in a 1500pt list was... Difficult) Incidentally, are there any codified rules for 2v2 games? Or is that purely in the realm of discussing what everyone's ok with before a casual game?

I think the Imperial Guard flying units suffer most from is a lack of airborne doctrine. The mauraders, vendettas, and vultures were all created around the Elysian Drop troops. But since they’ve been discontinued it seems the flyers tend to be overlooked in favor of tanks. I hope GW adds an airborne regimental doctrine in the next codex.

For the price you think you'd have the ability to drop 3 to 4 bombs per turn it will only come into play in later turns but for the points it's a bit much to bother bringing.

Are you saying that the bomb of the non-bommer version has only 3 fewer dices but hit's +2 better?? My god...

Currently running a Marauder destroyer in my narrative campaign and having loads of fun with it. That being said it's only as good as it is because I've managed to upgrade both the heavy Bolter and assault cannons to have increased BS & AP

Here’s a thought.. What if Commisars aren’t bad? The idea is basically a commissar armoured fist. So commissar attached to infantry/Dkok/Catachan (unsure what the best answer is here.) Chimera - Double Heavy Flamer. The idea is he supports your blob squads to prevent them not being able to reinforce/score a point due to being battle shocked. He can also let you lean into Kaserkin / Scions as pseudo battle line as cheap way of making them OC2. You run him in tandem with Death Riders as a cheap way of handing out ‘Fix Bayonets!’ to a unit that actually cares. Also he can un-battle shock your horsies so they can reinforce and bump them to OC2 to flip points. In front of the horsies you run Bulgryn so that the Bulgryn take the charge and then the horsies move from behind LOS and counter charge. The Chimera is in the mix just behind your cav and bulgryn making enemy screens do the burny dance so you can charge the best target. I guess if you had Catachans as your armoured fist then you’d have two flamers to add to the mix as well.. making overwatch tempting with 4 d6 auto hits. He’s also 21 OC you can just dump on a point. If you win the fight through you might have the commissarmoured fist and some horsies off to party on enemy home objective. Seems like a good time while the rest of your force is doing normal guard things. Thoughts? Best Squad to run in the chimera with him? I can see merits for all options.
