I met Eddie George at a Wal-Mart and I told him I really enjoyed watching him play in the NFL. He asked if I wanted an autograph I said no just wanted a good conversation. So, he talked to me about something other than football. What a great person and I will never forget it.
I would have got that autograph. I seen beast mode and he refused a pic and an autograph. Some of these players are a holes but when the offer you take it.
@@lutherodanielsjr7876 We had such a good conversation, his advice changed my life. I'm financially secure because of it. You can't put a price on that.
Eddie is the perfect representation of how one persons ambition can create such great ripple effects through the people they help. My favorite Tennessee titan ever for sure!
One of the greatest things about being a child for me when I was, is being able to see Eddie freaking George. Love that man for how he goes about his business.
My dad was classmates with him at Ohio State in the nineties. He remembered seeing him in class after that infamous Illinois game when he fumbled twice on the goal line - Eddie was saying “Coach isn’t going to let me run again…” He sure rebounded to become one of the best Ohio State RB’s of all time.
Had my mother make a decision like this that changed my life. A mother’s love will move a man to defy anything to become successful but it’s the honor and pride from a father that ignites a fire that never goes out. 🔥🔥
I remember the first time I saw him in person during an open training camp in Nashville, back in 2002 or early 2003. This guy was HUGE!!! EVERY PART OF HIS BODY WAS CHISELED!!! I would then see him periodically in Nashville after he retired from the game, and he was such a nice guy who always greeted me! Great job Eddie!
Mane, when they played in Memphis, TN, they practiced at Rhodes College (a private D-III School) I was working their Summer Football practices. He was nothing but pure muscle from the tip top of his head to the huge calves above his feet. Also, McNair was on Swoll, as well...
@@just_a_little_trolling9380, Exactly! I remember seeing him do a quick lap up and down the bleachers. Then his trainer tossed him a ball or towel, something, and that is when I saw his hands! EVEN THEY WERE CHISELED!!! I looked at him with my mouth wide open, in absolute shock, and as if I had transposed back to an awestruck child! I was nearly 40!!!😱!!! I think Eddie put the letter M in the word MUSCLE!!!😂😂😂😂
@@JP-rl4bc, Exactly! He and his then fiancé were always very very friendly when I would see them in a market or when I would bump into them at a movie or local playhouse. Very very cordial MAN!!!👍
Trophies and rings are what these athletes aspire to, but being able to say that you looked into the eyes of one of the most feared LBs of all time, not flinch and went straight at him. To me, that alone solidifies him as a football legend.
Eddie George should be in the HOF.He carried the Titans during his four year run of consecutive pro bowls. He may not have deserved to be a first ballot HOF’er but he definitely should be a member if Terrell Davis got in after only playing 5 seasons. If the Titans would have won that super bowl he would be in.That’s the only possible reason to let Davis in and to not even have Eddie George’s name on the ballot.
Terrell Davis had one of the most dominant 3 year stretches a RB could ever have. His peak 3 year stretch rivals and in some cases surpasses the Barry Sanders, Walter Paytons, Jim Browns of the world. From 1996 to 1998 season 2x SB Rings 1 MVP 1 SB MVP 2x OPOY 3x 1st Team All Pro 2x Rush TD Leader 2,000 yard season And real Broncos fans would agree that Davis was the biggest reason for the Broncos success in the 97 and 98 playoff runs. He carried John Elway (who some say is a top 10 QB all time) real hard.
Eddie George is an amazing human being!! To go from Pro football star, to a very good actor, shows that the man has passion running through his veins on every breath he takes!! Isn’t that what lives supposed to be all about!? When your passion for one thing runs it’s course, you find out what your next passion will be and you keep moving forward like that to your last breath!! What a role model!!! What an inspiration he is!! Thank you for reminding me that iam doing it the right way!! 😊👍
Only reason I kept up with them when they left Houston. After they both were gone I didn't follow them no more honestly and now I hate them because I was born an Oilers fan.
It’s not ridiculous. If you’re gonna let Eddie George in the HOF then you should allow these players who have very comparable careers to him get in then. Marshawn Lynch, LeSean McCoy, Shaun Alexander, Priest Holmes, Tiki Barber, Warrick Dunn, Ricky Watters, Jamal Lewis, Corey Dillon, Fred Taylor, Steven Jackson and a few others out there get in.
@@Terror832 He had a career 3.7 YPC average (which is utter dogshit), he only got yardage because he was given the ball 350-400 times a year. This dude is NOT a Hall of Famer and most of the guys you listed were better than he was. In fact, if I had to start a team and pick a RB in his prime, George would be the last guy out of that list I would pick. George lived off the hype of his college career, people wanted him to be good in the pros. Good short yardage back because of his size, never should have been a primary option.
@@logicaldude3611 agree with everything you said. And some of these Eddie George fanboys are disrespecting Terrell Davis for getting in despite his short career. What TD did in the 1998 season is more impressive than anything Eddie George ever accomplished. Plus he had arguably the greatest 3 year stretch of play for a RB in NFL History
College hall of fame yes but pro football hall of fame absolutely not. I keep seeing comparisons to terrel davis. Theres absolutely no comparison to eddie and terrel at all. HOFer no way
I always thought Eddie was the ultimate prototype of a running back. He was the perfect package. Size, strength/power, speed, agility the dude had it all. He was fun to watch.
Oh, my, after my watching, what comes to mind immediately is "beautiful." Gosh, what a story... and whenever I think about running backs with character, with soul, with incredible lives AND WITH INCREDIBLE MOMS! like Smith, Brown, Payton, Allen... I think of Eddie. Yes, he's definitely in that group of greats.
Awesome video and I felt every part of it. My son is a football player and I find this so inspirational for him. My son lost his mother a few years back as I lost. My father and I was in high school. I find it inspirational for myself, residing in Pennsylvania not too far from Philadelphia but understanding how to see your hunger when it’s all over. I am a veteran, and I find myself in some of the same places, especially after dealing with the injury, but mostly dealing with transition and feeding the fire of life and teaching that to my son, as he learn, going up the mountain . I feel Eddie’s mother when she spoke on his phone and his father. I lost my father, but my father deal with some of the same things, but I’ve never ever forgot anything my father ever told me about. I speak to My Son today about it, but man I wish my father can meet the man I am today . Much love to Eddie George he was phenomenal football player in man he had a iron will the blue collar run style . Dealing with depression as well. I really respect and enjoy the peace I saw, and Eddie George being on stage because it’s so funny I found that acting help me so much. Doing a couple local plays and getting so lucky working all set for Creed two with Michael B Jordan a few actors although I was just an extra it just felt right and I’m not through yet. God bless to George family. God bless Eddie George.
Me being a Buckeyes fan, this is a real good episode, including him seeing his father on Father's day. His mom did know best about changing his life for the better. That's a real good episode and turnaround for Eddie George back then.
I was lucky enough to meet him twice. The first time was inside the Hilton downtown Nashville. He had a sports bar there and the next time was in a small town about two hours outside Nashville. He was great both times. He was a man without a ego. I had a job for a long time that I got to meet famous folks from sports to entertainment. I guess about roughly 200 folks and he would rank in the top 5 percent of the kindest down to earth person I was lucky enough to meet.
As being a Nashville NATIVE from the BOTTOM of my HEART.... EDDIE GEORGE I thank you for everything you have done for my CITY and STATE we will never forget plus still have your jersey from when I was a freshman in high school back in 2000 still my #` RB hopefully meet someday too talk
I've been watching the NFL since 1965 with my dad,RIP, George was a bull, those big bruising backs were my favorites, way more than passing, today's NFL is a little different, more passing but he was a pleasure to watch.
Love you Eddie sorry for your family, I’m from Nashville .love you I’m an old white mother and grandmother we love you . Your the man. You have always stepped up. Love you don’t go up the middle. Love you
We're only young once, or for a while. Then nature and the forces we encounter, eventually catch up with us. - A former high school tailback, Marine, and amateur baseball player with 57 year's experience.
I recall that Super Bowl like yesterday and all I really remember is when Eddie gets pissed and when that happens, he takes over games. So proud of him and so grateful he came to Ohio State to play his college ball for us. Eddie is a great player and an even better person.
Eddie George has been my favorite player since I was 11 watching him run all over the league w his 400 carries! Picture Marshawn Lynch speed and agility, with bruising power and mass! sucks Titans didn't have a real threat in the pass game, his greatness got lost in a lot of 3 yard runs up the middle.. Just got my Eddie George SB XXXIV jersey in the mall the other day! Fav athlete to this day! #27
One of the GREATEST Super Bowl's ever played!!! I REALLY wanted the Titans to win.....I liked the Rams as a team, but I was really pulling for George and McNair that game.
I just watched this again. I cried several times, like during his mom's words after the Illinois game. And I"m only a quarter into the documentary, this time around. I've seen all the Football Lifes...Love Eddie's...it's so philosophical I keep rewinding not to miss anything...yet relatable, not pretentious. If he and Ray Lewis were on the same team, either Ravens or Titans, there would have been many super bowls.
All our lives are a journey, we all have different paths, but the hardest step in our journey is the transition in our lives, from one place to another, and we need God's grace and direction to make the transition. We cannot do it alone.
It's 2023 as a young black man right now in time.. I typed Eddie George name in the search for a reason. I seek true 👍🏾 inspiration looking for more motivation to be a better person today 🙏🏾. I witness greatness 🙌🏾
I was always a fan of the way Eddie ran. I was thrilled when he came to the Cowboys. Although he was passed his prime I loved his time with team. Plus 27 is my favorite number.
I am so impressed with the journey off Eddie George. He is such a wonderful person. Your journey is amazing. Keep moving forward God is not through with you yet.
Eddie had a fantastic career, but I often wonder how much better it could’ve been had Jeff Fisher not been so bullheaded with his approach to offense. I know he was a defensive minded coach, but he should’ve known a decent passing game would’ve opened things up more for 27!
If Terrell Davis got in the HOF with only 8 years of playing and playing only 4 then this man deserve a HOF enshrinement he carried a team on his back along with McNair
I agree...he should be in the HOF...I bet the reason why he is not in is because he didn't win a superbowl...im not sure if a got MVP or not but either way he should be in...blessings to you
@@johnpierce4778 in 1995 TD was drafted by the Denver Broncos by the 3rd game of the season he was the starter he played in 96,97, especially in 1998 when he ran for 2,000 yards. (Four years full start no injuries) In 1999 by the third game of the season TD suffer a career defining knee injury and was never the same and was lost for the season In 2000 in the first game of the season against the Rams he re injured his knee and after the fifth game he was lost for the remainder of the season 2001 TD was back but Mike Shanahan now had Tatum Bell and Clinton Portis and TD showed a shell of what he was so Shanahan made Portis and Bell his #1 and #2 RB 2002 with 3 years already in which he hadn't had a full season starting for the Broncos it showed TD knee injury was the reason of his downfall and when the Broncos decided to make Portis and Bell their Starter the Broncos were going to Cut Terrell instead of being cut TD decided to have a last hurrah as he walked down the Tunnel one last time in Invesco Field at Mile High and announced to the organization instead let him retire So there you go TD started a full season and had big numbers 95-98 (four years into his career) but from 99-02 ( his last four seasons in the NFL) he was hurt and he retired with no productivity
I use to watch Eddie George Jr play for the Titans, he was a big, tall running back who had these beast mode moves with the shake n bake elusiveness. I still remember the game where he came up a yard short in a super bowl game. Tennessee Titans were so close to winning a super bowl during Jeff Fishers time as the Titans head coach
I had the pleasure of seeing Eddie George run roughshod over defenders in high school at Fork Union. Unfortunately I was a member of the opposing team. After the game I got home to find my father on the phone with one of his friends, an assistant coach at Michigan, saying “you gotta get this kid I just saw from Fork Union.”
TD won two SBs and was an MVP, SB MVP and had a 2k rushing season in a career cut short. He was a 3x All Pro and offensive player of the year twice. Eddie George was an All Pro once in a season he had 400 carries and averaged 3.7 yards a carry. He average 3.6 yards a carry for his career. That is awful. Hall of fame? Gtfoh!
He's one of the most overrated RBs in NFL history. He lived off the hype he had coming out of college. Absolutely awful YPC average, he was just given so many rushes he accumulated yardage. This is a guy who consistently had to have 350-400 carries to get a little over 1000 yards. There was nothing in his game that separated him from anyone else in a way that would make him a HOF player. He was a good short yardage RB because of his size, that's about it.
@@logicaldude3611 agreed, i liked him as a player but having a career 3.6 ypc doesnt warrent HoF consideration, his stats were purely an accumlation by volume or repeatedly running for small gains 30 times a game...
Great as in GREAT player, and great actor as well. A true ambassador of the game and in life. Loved him in the Fansville commercials as well. Eddie is a true entertainer, regardless of avenue. Would like to see him in movies.
😅I'll never forget the time the Houston Oilers became the Tennessee Oilers and then later being named Tennessee Titans. I was stationed in FT Campbell from 1996-1998 before I went to FT Bragg, NC. It was called Adephia Coliseum(Nissan Stadium) at that time and I met Eddie George in Nashville walking around town and told him how I followed his career from afar since he was a standout at Ohio State. I have his autograph till this day and later in life he's married to one of my favorite female R&B group SWV. They're still happily married in 2024. Salute to Eddie ❤🎉
Them Eddie George Vs. Ray Lewis battles was legendary. Titans Vs. Ravens Rivalry in 2000's underrated Rivalry. The one thing about Eddie George he definitely wasn't soft, i can tell u that much. I just wish Eddie, McNair and Titans would got a ring. Thankful I witnessed Eddie George play during my childhood.
Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.
They did not mention his close Relationship with Mr. Steve Mcnair and his reaction when he was killed in a Murder-Suicide by his girlfriend while his wife and children were at home waiting for him.....I am happy to see his great Relationship he has with his father....Addiction is a Monster and it hurts me to see so many men and women with that terrible Addiction😉
I watched Eddie at Ohio state...I think it's arguable the highest hyped up back besides Ricky Williams ..Ron Dayne to and Maurice Clarett coming out of college before social media
