I remember the first time i ever heard this song,i was at a biker festival and i was half pissed, about 10 years ago. I just heard that opening guitar sound and i ran to the tent where the band were playing it,i was just mesmerised by it,and the band were absolutely fantastic at it too,the tent was all lit up by a green light and it was really late at night,it was just a fantastic atmosphere, loved the song ever since.
Yes yes yes.......this is what I’ve been waiting for! Adrian you have great taste in music. Loved your Siouxie and the Banshees, Smiths, PIL and Happy Monday’s riffs.....and now The Cure. You are one of the best teachers on RU-vid. More Cure please.
"It's flanger time!" Loved that intro! Thank you, Sir, for an amazing tutorial of this Postpunk classic. I salute your good taste and courage for choosing this and other songs I LOVE!!! Your work on The Cure, Siouxie and the Banshees, Wire, The Fall, Cramps, etc, is a class act. Suscribed!
This is just what I needed. There are so many covers and tutorials for this song, but this is the first one I've found that actually offers some explanation of the solo, the improvisation and the dissonance at the end - thank you!
I can still remember going into Doncaster Sth Yorks UK and buying the single after hearing it on John Peels radio show, I then saw the band at Sheffield Polytechnic shortly after, to be honest, they were crap but I did see them again years later at Sheffield city hall and they were amazing a really tight polished act.
I remember learning this by ear. And I got it right. No internet, no books or any other sources of knowledge. Just guitar and a casette tape. Primary is great. Especially The Concert version.
Managed to download a great patch for this song to my Katana and was looking for a tutorial. This is fabulous - thank you so much you are an excellent teacher
This was Ace, I am going to buy a flanger this week just to get started *I've loved this tune since University days many decades ago and I'm hopeful your lesson (watched probably 100+ times) will help me learn to play it
Great tutorial which inspired me to buy a E-guitar again after many years which I have heard music but didn't play. You teach many songs on your channel which I like very much although I'm quite a bit older than you and live in another country but music unites generations doesn't matter where they live. Thanks.
Who would have thought that exactly one year later, this comment 2:42 has people's eyebrows hitting the ceiling. Hope your well Adrian. You got me with this one buddy. You had me jamming right along with you on my air-guitar. You're a wizard! Order's in on the "Broadcaster." Thanks.
Thankyou for clearing up the flange part in a forrest . Its been 25 years trying to work out how they did it. The riff i am talking off is the verse riff. Its what gives the song its intensity to me. A bassline not on a bass. I have seen them live but prefer them on vinyl. The verse riff phases in and out in the track a little adding further ambience to me. I must have heard it well over 5000 times and it never gets old.....like me. I was in my 20s when it was released. Thanks for a great video....props. The beginning of fascination st with Rob playing the intro has a similar ambience and depth.
Thanks a lot. Two years ago i bought a Squier VI + Mustang GT100. Now i have time and got a nice Flanger-preset and it sounds...hmmmmm. I'm listen to The Cure since 1981. More Vids, please. Greets from Germany/Frank
Thanks Adrian. Really enjoyed this one and 'Play for today'. Re the BF-3 - I just bought one of those, before I saw this video (honest) and just before I saw 'Play for today' the other week. Both videos very well explained and easy to follow, cheers.
