you already know there's a God, everyone does inherently. the question isn't if God exists, the question is "who is God." That's what the Christian religion attempts to answer.
Everyone should switch to solar energy and stop giving big company's money, if we didn't have to pay for power maybe more of us could go on vacation once a year.
I am so glad to see her doing something for our planet. Most people are just complaining about the state of the planet but continue on... marching with their big footprints. I reduced my footprint 20 years ago when the scientists were warning us about the dangers of global warming. Now, I am retired and I am looking at the concept of Tiny Home and Solar panels. I am looking forward joining the thousands of people who are doing this.
Gaelle McG did you also agree with those scientists back then that the world would end in 10 years? Hahaha yet you still listen to those that were so wring
@@TKUA11 You are making a lot of assumptions on my comment. I did not believe that the world would end in ten year.... but I thought that becoming environmentally conscious was very important. I have researched the global warming myth and tend to be on the side of the scientists who disagree with the scientific consensus on global warming, yet it does not stop me from being careful with my footprint.
As CFO of Exxon and close friend of the Saudi government, I'm not a huge fan of American energy independence. On the other hand, as a Franciscan nun, I approve of her tenacity. And yet, as a non-Indianan, I would prefer if Indiana maintained its current levels of poverty and pollution. I gotta say, I'm torn on this issue.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, and it was good; And Republicans, allergic to light and everything good lit their coal hearts and continued to plot the demise of the Earth
Munden lol that’s ridiculous. If God can do anything, then he will make sure that coal won’t destroy the planet . The logic you guys propose doesn’t compute. This whole global warming thing is a religion in itself . Spelling doom and telling us there’s little time . All cults do this
Both sides are wrong. it's true that total benefit to the grid when solar energy is pumped back is much less than retail, as it's not an even energy source. However, then it make sense to change the rates thoughout the day. If that is done, there is then an opportunity for home energy storage solutions, in combination with solar to provide a benefit for everyone. And they can always just build an off-grid system if they don't like it.
By saying they should be able to send energy to the grid, then get it back at the same price, they are saying they should get a service for free that would otherwise cost them tens of thousands of dollars. Even as a usually left-of-center idiot, I see the lunacy in this. 1400 dollars a month, at 0.12 dollars a kWh, is 11,667 kWh used monthly. Assuming a 30-day month, that's 389 kWh a day. The Tesla Powerwall 2 has a useable capacity of 13.5 kWh and costs around 6700 dollars retail. Insurance is another 1000 dollars with installation being 1000 - 3000 dollars. Call it 9700 dollars for one Tesla Powerwall 2 with installation and insurance. Numbers taken from: cleantechnica.com/2019/01/19/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-powerwall-2-2019-edition/ Now, the biggest factor in cost would be how much storage a person wants. Let's say they want 100 kWh; enough to get through the night with a little extra in the morning to get things started in the office before the sun is fully up. !00 kWh / 13.5 kWh is 8 Powerwall 2 Units. (7.4 rounded up to 8) That would be a cost of 77,600 dollars. With a guarantee of 10 years, this would be 7,760 dollars per year that they now get from the grid. If, on the other hand, they wanted to get off the grid entirely they might need a full week of storage, for 389 kWh times 7 days, giving 2723 kWh of storage needed. This would require 202 of the above Tesla Powerwall 2 units at a cost of 1,959,400 dollars, or 195,940 dollars per year if taken over a 10 year period. This would be the cost of the service they now get from the grid which ensures the continuity of their electricity. Note, the cost of such storage alone would be more than the 1400 dollars times 12 months, for a total of 16,800 dollars per year, that electricity now costs them. A LOT more. Enough more that I'm wondering where I made a mistake in my calculations. Also note that at the end of a 10 year period, those batteries would only be able to store 70-percent of their original charge, meaning somewhere during that time they would have needed to buy more of the Powerwall 2 units, driving an already insane price up even further. Of course, with the current Lithium supply I'm not even sure it should be legal to sell such systems as the Powerwall 2. As it currently stands, Lithium from EV batteries isn't recycled into other batteries, but sold for use in cement. They have issue with recycling that you don't find in a Lead-acid battery where the parts can be easily disassembled to be reused.
CAN THE VATICAN GET BEHIND THIS IDEA ? Like yes god made coal too but we all know coal hurts the environment and god never said “ well just use the energy sources that destroy the world I made and you’ll be fine”
When a Franciscan nun does something normal, we have to tell you that she's a Franciscan nun because that is the most important thing for you to know. Did you catch that? She's a Franciscan nun! Aren't fundamentalists wonderful?! Say you love Jesus! SAY IT!
Many great religious people and Christians in the past devoted themselves to science and understanding the world, through philosophy or research. When you merge conservative politics with the culture war the results are... less than optimal.
People forget utility companies invested billions of dollars before and they need to get their money back everything is politicized but you have to understand investment is at stake
Somebody has to pay for the power line installation and maintenance, and that's a big part of two total cost for electricity (in this example, total is $0.12). If I'm selling my solar energy back into the grid, I'm only providing wholesale electricity, so that's what I should be paid for. We can argue about whether $0.04 is a fair wholesale price, but it's not reasonable or fair to expect to get $0.12 selling back to the grid. All that being said, solar energy is clearly the future and basically everyone wins when energy goes clean. But let's be realistic about the economics of it
My mom and dad had a friend who was part of the Order of Franciscan Monks. I can't remember the spelling of his name though, it was something like Father Nathaniel Giantasio. Used to be a chaplain in the Army. He was usually called Father G or Father Nat
I like how the interviewer didn't even once mention coal and the spokesman instantaniusly started talking about it even though there are a number of other power sources which are powering this country.
But solar panels aren't green as the manufacturing of them requires coke. And silicon quartz in panels are mined from sedimentary beds etc which are very damaging to environment
Also, I feel like it was already on CNN and Fox News three seconds after it happened, and comprised the entire 24 hour news cycle thereafter. Everyone on earth fucking knew about it. Who's hiding this information from you? If you turned on any cable news, you'd have heard about it and listened to ten commercials for General Electric, Northrop Grumman, Lyrica, and McDonalds by now.
@@abhishekyadawanshi2648 It actually has if you really cared to watch and were not trying to build up a strawman. Also considering we all are on holiday in the Western Hemisphere- give them a fucking break. Vice does documentaries- unlike short news clips- they take time and ressources to make, you know. Good luck calling someone down over an easter sunday to fly to Sri Lanka.
Power companies produce power at the wholesale level. Why should they pay more for it? As if some lesbian nun knows anything about electrical distribution.
I think the title is a misnomer. She's probably a "sister". Most of the people we call nuns aren't nuns. Nuns make vows to never step foot outside the isolation of their cloister for the rest of their life.
I don’t think destroying forests for solar panels would be good, but honestly who cares if a farmer decides they would rather make more money generating solar power? That’s the farmer’s prerogative.
How exactly do solar panels on rooftops destroy farms and forests? How does a silicium-centred ressource production endanger forests? Why do you measure farms-the biggest deforestation factor on this planet- as something "green"? Ever been to a coal production region? Or seen what nuclear or chemical waste does to a biome?
To the idiot telling me to do research let me put it like this as a hunter I'm concerned about the wind and solar farms because they not only require the digging up and destruction of deserts, mountains, etc but as a hunter I cannot legally shoot a gun or archery hunt 100 yards around man made things like wind farms, solar farms, etc so get put of the city and ask us hunters about some of the issues we face.
