Hello Gemma! Exactly one year ago today, Valentine's Day of 2019, I was told by a bakery worker that French Macarons are EXTREMELY difficult to make and I would probably not be able to make them at home. Well guess what? I'm now making them at home. It took me 3 or 4 tries to get them perfect, but I'm now making them myself, at home! I'm a pretty experienced baker and I'm also self taught. I've been baking since I was 7 years old. I'm now 67 years old, so I've been baking for 60 years! How on earth did I get to be this old??? Anyway, I really enjoyed this video and I'm a new subscriber as of Today! You're never too old to learn something new.

Mary Ellen, I was a counselor with female juvenile delinquents for many years, and I would tell them to learn something new every day. I said, "The day you stop learning is the day you might as well curl up and start to die." Congratulations on learning how to make the macarons. I have wanted to as soon as I saw Beth from "Entertaining With Beth" make them, but fatigue keeps me from doing so many things I would enjoy. Maybe I will try these soon, they seem to move along fairly quickly.

I made chocolate macarons with raspberry cream cheese filling and a raspberry jam type center, shaped like hearts for Valentine's day. They were delicious and if you like store bought macarons, I highly suggest making them yourself because even if you fail, odds are you still end up with something delicious!

Oh, Gemma! I was so glad to see Kevin with you in a video, it just doesn't happen enough. You mentioned five years ago failing at macarons, and I haven't seen you in a while. I thought, "I wonder if they are making plans for a baby," then noticed your tummy as Kevin was sifting the dry ingredients into the meringue, and I said, "I think she is pregnant!" This recipe relies on eggs, egg whites specifically. I'm afraid it cannot be substituted and hope to achieve something close to it. I have heard of some bakers experimenting with aquafaba but I have not tried it.

I recently stumbled upon your channel when I was looking for homemade Pop Tart recipes. (Thank you for all of the phenomenal recipes and videos by the way!) My 14-year-old daughter has always been curious about macarons and we haven't ever tried them so we will be attempting these! (Just as soon as I get some almond meal!) Sift dry ingredients.. almond flour, powdered sugar. Whip room temperature egg whites. Add little sugar in stages. Beat until stiff peaks are formed. Add food colouring. Sieve the dry ingredients again and gently fold it into the egg whites mix. Pour the mix into a piping bag. Line a baking tray with parchment paper (use double baking trays). Pipe the mix into circles onto the parchment paper. Bang the trays on the counter top to release air pockets. Set aside for 30-60 mins to let the shells get nice and dry. Once the top is dry, pop into oven 300 degrees F or 150 degrees celcius for roughly 15-20 mins.

THANKS Gemma! If Kevin can do it- I certainly can! In fact- watching you video has inspired me to give this a whirl; esp. that trick Kevin showed with the macaron template. I honestly never heard of that trick- slip the template underneath the parchment paper. To be honest- I had never thought parchment paper was translucent. I had thought bakers had some how marked the parchment. I always thought that the macaron batter would slide into the neighboring macaron and become 1 big one, if tilted. So many frightening thoughts, but seeing this video has squashed most of my doubts. Your baby will be so lucky having a baker as a mum; school bake sales will be so fun!! Thank you again, and I hope there will be more videos with your husband and baby!

I have had always thought that I could never make them, but Kevin said it well -- Gemma you help us not to be afraid. You both help us to be Bold . You are really great at teaching how to bake. Happy I found your channel. I have always wanted to try making macarons but was scared as they seem so difficult, but you have s great way of explaining. I am anxious now to attempt making some. Will let you know how I make out 💜
