A full introduction to my original unrestored 1970 Volkswagen Beetle. #beetle #unrestored #VW This car was also featured on TFLClassics: • This ALL Original 1970...
I found a 1970 beetle near my grandma's house. It was in pretty bad condition, the paint had driven off and stuff. So, since no one owned it, we took the car and plonked it into our backyard. We grew plants in it and decorated it. It's a nice touch to my grandma's garden now :D
Beautiful! You are a great Custodian of this ‘70 Beetle, nice that it’s been unmolested. I’ve owned a ‘57, ‘65, ‘67, ‘69 and ‘70 over the years. They are truly remarkable cars. Loved the video… cheers
When I was 16 my buddy's mom gave him her 1970 pale blue, semi-auto beetle. We were juniors in high school and no longer had to walk to school! Needless to say we spent a lot of time driving around in that for sure. I think I can 'smell' the interior (in my mind) if I really try and think about it. Nice car Mark and you have good reason to be proud of it.
Thank you! Great story. When I was out of the Beetle scene for awhile in the 2000's it was the interior smell of a Beetle that I saw for sale that made me think about getting back into Beetles again.
Growing up in San Francisco, i remember that VW dealership on Mission St and the Daly City dealership as well. Daly City is what we called "the rust belt" because of the fog. My uncle had a new 68 type 1, great memories. Your 1970 is schweet. Enjoy👍
How cool that you grew up in the area that this car originated from! Thank you for commenting! Any other memories you have of that area and that time are greatly appreciated!
Back in March 1970, I bought a brand new 1970 VW beetle, white in color, with red leatherette seats, bumper guards. I truly took care of that car, to a point that attracted the eyes of someone, that his only interest was to steal it from me. I still have the window sticker.
My first car was a 69 Bug. I loved the little wing windows. Learned how to change my own oil. Painted it a pretty blue. Put in a new engine. I sold it for weird reasons then saw it going down the road one day and cried.
I had a red 1970 back in 1972-73. Mine had white racing stripes along the sides a few inches above the running boards. I sure would love to have it now in the condition it was when I owned it. Your car sure is a beauty.
I bought this identical car (same colors) used in 1973 for $1400. 00. 14K miles. Sold it two years later with 36K miles for $1200.00. Best car investment I ever made.
Thanks for watching! Vw had a few baby blue colors through the years. Bahama blue and then Zenith blue in the 1960s. My 1970 is Diamond Blue. By 1973 it was Marina Blue which was a little deeper.
Awesome video, I'm 23 and in a few days I will be getting my first vintage car in my grandfathers 1972 Beetle, thank you for showing me a couple of things to get me prepared!!
@@markj331 i think we are about the same age...I used to drive a red/ orange 1500 beetle more than 25 years ago...it is really an awesome feeling to drive a vw beetle. Needless to say, I miss that beetle so much😊 thanks for acknowledging my message.
Wow! You are so blessed to have this original untouched Beetle. This is rare nowadays! Take care of it bro! That is completely antique car. So much expensive to buy now!💗
Hi, Just found your wonderful clip, loved it....I have a 1970, 1500S, have had it for over 40 years, learn't to drive in it basically, I'm the third owner, it was originally Honey Brown, but when I had it restored I changed the colour to Red. So nice to see another of these gorgeous machines well loved and still on the road.. well done you.....
My first car was a blue VW 1300, year model 1968. It was quite similar to your car, with the exception of the seats (my car had no headrests) and slightly different bumpers. I still think this car is the most beautiful car ever made. One particular thing about it - which you didn't mention - is the hose from the spare tyre which was used to operate the windscreen washers (it used the air to spray washer fluid). I have never seen that solution in any other car....
Beautiful Car. Very nice for unrestored. My grandfather who was a WW2 and Vietnam vet bought a 1970 Super Beetle while stationed in Munich that was actually ment for American Export. He moved to Ireland and took the car with him. Unfortunately, we had to scrap the car last year in Ireland due to alot of rust. He passed in 2018 so it hurt us very much. Although, we took the engine and transmission out and are planning to put the engine and trans into a right-hand drive beetle body in Ireland. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching this video and telling your story! Good luck with your plans for the engine and transmission it will be a nice tribute to your grandfather!
Hi and thanks for the comments! You are right that the purpose of the strap mentioned in the video is to hold the seat down flat. I call it a "luggage strap" because you use it to hold the seat down to increase luggage space!
I am picking up a '70 Bug TODAY... and I am EXCITED!!! I have had a '66 and a '70 before, but it's been a long time. I can't wait to begin making my mark on it. VW fans know how fun it is to replace this part, and that part... the parts catalogs are glossy car PORN. :) Three things I must have soon: a roof rack, a bamboo under-dash shelf, and a deck that sits behind the back seat, so I have a place to install speakers and shade things that I am storing behind the back seat. BTW... NEVER leave anything of value to a meth-head in the car, breaking into them is a piece of cake. Btw, it has a sun-roof, too. Paying 3100.00, but have to drive 100 miles to pick it up (with my wife in the Jetta following back home).
Thank you for the comments! The bumper guards on this car were a dealer installed option at the time of purchase. It is my understanding that different dealerships offered different options. These were referred to by some as "Porsche style." The squarer ones you mention were more common in those days. I have owned this Beetle since 2013.
My Father's first car! During Winter when the Roads where slippery we put a sack of Potatoes under the Front Hood. That did helped a lot. Liked that Car very much. 😉😂
@@markj331 thanks, yes. But my first car was much more fun. A French Citroen 2 CV or french duck, die Ente in German. Umbrella on wheels. In Winter the crank handle helped a lot, the battery was not the best. But for spring and summer....the best fun car there was....and very economical.😉👍
Nice car my dad bought same thing then I got it from him and it took me all over east coast for many yrs! Caught on fire parked on a hill an was total loss !
@@brianchisnell1548 I just checked the stats in the owners manual. You are correct about this! Very cool. I did not know this before you mentioned it. Thank you!
@@markj331 The bomb! you answered in Portuguese..🤝👍 Do you still have the Beetle? I also have one, year of manufacture 1964, 1200cc. I'm doing the necessary maintenance to get it running.
@@marcelo_rcosta I'm happy to hear you are working on a 1964 120cc! A great year for the Beetle and a very reliable engine! I hope you are having fun and enjoying the work!
@@markj331 I agree, the 1964 Beetle - due to various constructive details - is a differentiated vehicle. I'm very happy to do the maintenance with my own hands, I'm creating a bond with my “old” 😀😃🪛🔧⚙️🔩
No. The autostick beetle has 3 forward gears: a low, a range 1 and a range 2. The low is roughly equivalent to 2nd gear in the manual beetle, the range 1 is roughly equivalent to 3rd gear in the manual beetle, and the range 2 is roughly equivalent to 4th gear in the manual beetle. First gear is unnecessary since the torque converter allows you to be in gear while standing still. With the assistance of the torque converter, you normally start out smoothly (not but speedily) in range 1 and then shift to range 2 around 40mph. There is no clutch pedal; the shifting is electro-pneumatic. Low is for going up ramps, etc. although you can certainly start off in low for a more speedy take-off.
Hello 👋🏼 i have a 68 blue outside black in but the last owner didn’t care about it so it need to much love sure i have it im gonna start fixing it the interior, i can drive it now but like I said need to much love 💕 Wonder where are you located I leave in Watsonville Ca. Santa Cruz county
HI Mark, how are you? I'm Brazilian it was a pleasant surprise to meet you because I have a Beetle 1970 Stick Shift Diamond blue exactly like yours here in Brazil. If you can contact me I would love to talk about the model. Thank you very much
Hi! Thanks for watching! This Beetle has an original Pierburg built fuel pump. It has a filter screen within the pump. It also has a filter screen in the tank. This is the way Beetles came from the factory then.
