Anytime I get to add Gold dice to my collection, I'm happy... My hoard grows stronger. Check out the Kickstarter here! - www.kickstarter.com/projects/kakapopo/lotd?ref=e89y9d
@@Rybonatoromg I'm having so much fun! A friend commissioned me to make individual dice for each player in an upcoming campaign, so that's been a fun project- the changeling got multichrome shifting pigments, the human/gelatinous cube hybrid got a transparent green base with glowing opaque smoky centers, and the human got an opaque gold and transparent red dirty pour, so at times you can see the gold through the red. Just gotta work up the strength to polish them all!
Just found your videos a week or two ago and have been really enjoying it, so imagine my surprise seeing a new one filter into my feed! Happy days. I hope you, your wife and your kids are all healthy and happy and that dice work (when able) gets to go on!
One thing i'll note that you should consider if you want these to be usable ingame is the number distribution. Having the dice count. 1,2,3,4,1 loop is an unfair distribution for purposes of spinning. I'd suggest searching for mathnatically uniform scrambles (dont know any off top of head, dart board would be an example). Eg. 1,3,2,4,1. As this would add to the dices use case as a tool of randomness. Of course having them count 1,2,3,4,1 is aesthetically pleasing so their still nice
My eyes are huge right now! I love dice! I have dice holders too. I have a bag that says "Bag of Holding" then in tiny print under it, it says "dice". Most people don't see that, so it's a hoot. Usually I say, stay frosty, but this comment gets a... "ROLL FOR INITIATIVE!"
IT'S YOU! HIIIIII!! Hope you and the family are doing great! You might have explained in the video how you all are doing but I am so excited to see the notification that I must comment NOW! 🎉🥰
Doing amazing my friend! I did another vid like 2 weeks ago, but I didn't explain a whole lot in it. Twins are doing great! Love the little monsters to death! I'm exhausted and ecstatic at the same time. Glad to be back! :)
Oh I didn't see the notification - I'm thrilled that there's another video! And I'm VERY thrilled to hear that they're doing great, ahh yay, thanks for the response!! Although it seems to have triggered some kind of dust and/or onion issue.. further investigation is warranted 😁
I would add a magnetic detent to each disk. That way, the disk will not spin so long and will always land on a number exactly. Below the disk can be a ring of teeth. A magnet on the disk would be attracted only to the teeth of the ring. One tooth on the ring, per number on the disk. The momentum of the spinning disk will push past the teeth, until the disk loses momentum, where the magnet on the disk will stop at one of the teeth. Several ways to configure it, but in the end, a detent could be a good option.
Well the kickstarter is over now, and shipping has started, but was some cool metal dice called Flipdie. Coin dice, and internal mechanism thingy to have a ball land out at one of the points.
This is the first time I've ever done something like this but I backed it immediately . I need one of these so bad but I wish you had spent more time showing the colours and such I think I like the gunmetal with Yellow ink but I guess that's a problem for future me to sort out 😂 I've never back something so fast without a second thought
It might be more marketable to have a set that has a little bit of friction to them just for those that just want a quick spin or add an internal mechanism that will slow it down when activated.
I was tempted by this, but to me it seems like a flaw that, while it has a D6 wheel on it, the actual dice itself has no reason to be rolled since there aren't any face numbers.
Really neat dice, just feel the number layout should be the same as on dice, like 1 accross from 20 or 4 accoss from 17, you know like dice are. Only gripe but otherwise super cool.
Of course there is going to be scratches on them when you hit them against each other. It's metal on metal. You can hit literally anything with a hammer except for.... another hammer (can easily break hammers by swinging two together). It's simple physics.
i want one so so bad (in gold of course) but i hate having to wait for a kickstarter to finish being funded and all the production and shipping and then itll be a whole year/year and a half until i get it ! i wish they were available to purchase outright
...the dragon has failed his saving throw, roll 20d6 for damage! This isn't a practical dice to use. However, it is a practical fidget to keep anyone with short attention spans occupied. It's also a very nice real life reward if you're willing to raise the stakes on your own pocket.
Isn't it die? One die to rule them all? I mean, it's not " one rings to rule them ai* Or am I misinformed? Also, mostly just trying to get yer attention, i love the channel !!
ack i just wish the mubers weren't in sequence. i feel like if i was a DM this kind of "dice" would be questionable on the randomness since you're stopping it yourself
What would be your thoughts on a large multi-die like that... but used way differently? Imagine you set it on the table and spin the whole block. Then all the sides are connected by an unaligned gear mechanism which spins the other 5 sides together. When you stop the spinning they all stop together. Pretty damned unique but I can't think of a reason to do it... and you can't read all the sides without moving it anyway so it seems kinda pointless lol
You could actually just have one disk and multiple dice results represented on the same disk. This thing doesn't have detents so the positioning is arbitrary.
@@RybonatorI was thinking along the Divinity Original Sin 2: Impish Pocket Realm. Lots of traps where the dice is an artifact in the center of the dungeon and every turn it changes sides and new enemies or traps are added. And once players get into the center, they fight a boss that uses the dice to manipulate the board.
@@Rybonator after looking at the coins, I grabbed some of those as well. I’m thinking the boss can use the coins during combat, or while the players are going through the dungeon, at will and with only a cooldown for each coin. The coins will summon predetermined monsters that are mini bosses and will give the boss a chance to make a challenge without relying on pure chance. Honestly now I’m going to make my outline and draw up the structure today.
Greetings, Sam Zhao here. Thank you oh Great Rybonator for another awesome video! If I knew you'd be showing my unbearable handwriting to the world... I would of... asked my wife to write the notes. lol On a serious note, the slanting coin edge will be fixed and the edge will be perfectly straight/perpendicular when the coins are produced in mass after the Kickstarter campaign concludes :)
Why the name kakapopo? It's some kind of little kids curses in germany, meaning something like "poop butt butt". And i'm just wondering why someone would name his company thisway?! Don't get me wrong i celebrate the choice totally, just don't know why. ^^
Hello Mr. Zhao! I backed this and just got it. It spins really well except on the D4 side where it doesn't spin at all unless I hold it upside down so that the back of the spinner isn't pressed against the housing. How should I go about fixing that? Does graphite lubricant work well, or another method for freeing up the spinner, or will I have to send it in and wait for a working replacement to be sent?
I backed this on kickstarter already, and I appreciate this video for giving a sense of scale for the dice and the coins. Definitely a loot goblin, love my metal coins
I don't play DND but I love your videos so much and WOW these dice are unreal. That bronze one would have a place in my collection of trinkets for sure. Gorgeous, so pretty!!
I backed this kickstarter yesterday, and surprised to see a video review already. So glad that there is one, as you've shown off all 3 products really well, and just confirmed my choices of items. I'm getting 2 lotd (one in normal gold as the dark parts make the art pop, and one in gunmetal grey inked), a set of 6 coins (also in normal gold because of the same reason), and a leather pouch for the coins. Now I've seen your video, I can't wait even more to get them :D
@@Rybonator I just had a thought about the coins. I think they are reuses from the d6's because they're really cheap on the kickstarter, and it'd make sense to reuse materials rather than spend money on getting more to make them. Also "lore" wise, they'd look like part of a set of coins and dice.
i love the Gunmetal colour, and the Minotaur design! I thinks these will be very useful on a crowded table of goodies and snacks when you dont have the area to have a bunch of dice trays out. thanks for the preview. Kickstater is funded.
Just funded! You really weren't lying about the price. Got 1 LOTD, a leather pouch, 6 coin set + 1, and the Early bird bonus, which should come out to 4 free mystery coins! Very excited, going to have lots of heavy shiny things on my desk :D
I was thinking something similar.. since the pictures are asymmetric near the center, someone with a good eye could probably memorize what it looks like when 15-20 is up, and get it most of the time.
