Five Oaks Cemetery- Procedures for Funerals and Visitors
The Muslim community is experiencing more than its fair share of the increase in deaths due to Covid. The large number of deaths is causing delays in burial and affecting our duty to bury early. Poor ground conditions due to the weather and also the shorter daylight hours affect the number of burials we can do.
As a result, to allow us to cope with a higher number of burials we are:
reducing the visiting hours at Five Oaks cemetery from 8am to 10am.
Elmbridge Road cemetery will continue to be open from 9.00am to 4.45pm as no adult burials are conducted at this cemetery.
limiting the maximum number of mourners at a burial to 10 from 12th January. This will allow us to increase the number of burials whilst maintaining social distancing for mourners and our staff. Additional mourners will not be granted entry into the cemetery.
Please do not attend unless if specifically agreed with the funeral director or immediate family, you will cause delays to funerals. There is no parking outside the cemetery and the police have been in regular attendance in the last few days to move cars away from the area/issue parking tickets.
Mourners are required to remain behind the cordoned off area at the graveside until burial is completed.
staff at the gates will only allow mourners into the cemetery 15 minutes before the time slot allocated.
For visitors, the rules on gathering would apply i.e. you can only attend as an individual, one household or support bubble or with one adult from another household.
Everyone attending must keep to a minimum of 2 metres social-distancing.
Everyone must wear face masks at all times while at the cemetery.
prayer facilities will remain closed.
Please keep the frequency and time spent at the cemetery to a minimum.
However, please note if we have a substantial increase in the number of burials, or visitors NOT adhering to the Covid guidelines we will have to consider closing our cemetery to visitors.
