I really enjoyed playing Saki. She was a rather unique type of zoner with her bullet system. Unblockable bullet was absurd from the TvC experience I had, not sure if the meta of the current scene is different.
9:13 here starts the phrase "why did they make this little girl so damaging?" once the sentence is finished, Roll gives the tiniest of steps forward and in reaction jmcrofts dashes away from her. I know this was a coincidence but it makes her appear even more threatening.
Deff more of TvC. This is the forgotten vs game. And it really needs more love cause the mechanics are so interesting, with baroque and mega crash so both offence and defences are interesting with meter management.
@@KaitouKaiju Nova from MVC3u had a mechanic like it, but it was just to dump into his supers/moves to enhance a few of them. Nothing to really think about, where as here it can be used to make unsafe move safe, extend combos, dump for BIG damage if you have enough of it. Weighting losing recoverable health for all those options makes interactions more interesting, and of course your opponent has to think about it too, as even the tiniest bit = options for them to have to worry about. And then mega crash can just make someone waste all of it, but at the cost of meter. I always felt the Vs games lacked defensive options and in turn turned to games into whoever touched first wins. TvC 'could' be like that, but the mega crash was always a threat to be thinking about. It's the same reason I like Killer Instinct as much as I do, both sides are always in the fight, not just the one at advantage with a hit.
I mean she's not the worst in any game, more often than not shes playable. Her worst appearance was probably ST and she isn't even bottom 1 in that game.
@@doctorpistachio242 idk about that. Shes not the worst thing ever but she has some tough matchups. I think Akuma(duh), Dhalsim, Claw, Guile and shotos, not counting the old characters.
@@tootsie_ most old characters are surprisingly worst than the new, really only sagat, Ken and T.hawk for throw loops are better than new counterparts. Most new tier lists place her around 5th or 6th after the characters you listed tho.
Roll is a delightful background character. I always enjoy when characters from the background or supporting cast gets a chance to go toe to toe with all the heroes and main characters.
you laugh about roll just having a broom, but kohaku's been top tier in just about every version of melty blood to date, so i would watch it with the cleaning supplies slander
I feel like "Top Tier Roll" must've been some sort of in-joke by the dev team & they specifically made her this good to troll people who were used to her being abysmal in MvC2, and I can respect that mentality. After all, Roll carried me a ton back when I played this. I readily admit it. Also, *please* talk about PTX-40A, or the two giant characters in general, just because they felt so different.
@@YOFACE9999 Being on Wii plus the rather odd crossover material which was of waning relevance even in Japan at time of release (as evidenced by how most of the Tatsunoko cast is from the 70s and 80s). But the game is super cool. I think it was almost practice for MvC3 though stuff like Baroque and giant characters that weren't in Marvel were really fun.
Never too late to play it I ordered a Wii and tatsunoko vs Capcom in 2018 off eBay it was my first time playing it I liked the game a lot definitely a solid vs series game and way better the mvc infinite
They need to make a new Tatsunoko vs Capcom, I loved this game and the soundtrack. Orbital Rings Systems Cargo Bay was an elite track. I also want a Marvel vs Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
@@SwagMaster824 First order of business is just a Switch port of this with better netcode. If I recall, Nintendo of America was heavily involved in its US release and sorting out the copyright mess so it would have to be a Switch exclusive but we could work with that. THEN maybe add a few more characters (apparently they had models done for Phoenix Wright and Nurse Witch Komugi).
To be honest, id rather Capcom just made a Vs. Game with only Capcom cast. Or finally make a Namco vs Capcom Fighting game.... And i don't mean SF x Tekken. NAMCO Vs Capcom
@@GELTONZ I just don’t see it man. Too many different people involved with the copyrights. Plus it’s not like everyone is talking about Tatsunoko characters right now. MVC2 has a way better chance of getting a remaster than TvC probably ever could. And even getting the rights to re do MVC2 is already gonna be challenging enough id imagine how much harder it would be for Tatsunoko characters.
This game allowed me to play as Blade. I grew up watching Teknoman (at least that's what it was called in Australia) and when I saw him here I freaked. LOVE this game and the VA is great!
She's not top tier, but she's viable, Roll was rare in TvC I mained roll. I took advantage of the lack of knowledge to do well with her. The's powerful, but the cast in general was much MORE powerful. or they were weaker but took much less effort than roll. i had to put a SHITLOAD of work into roll....
I used Roll too and I had massive amount of wins with her online. My opponents didn't want to block low + I didn't really give her the rightful partner. It was all Ryu and Roll in a team for me. Roll works better with another partner than Ryu imo.
Aww hell yeah, I loved playing Roll in this game So glad they completely revamped her moveset, I don't like a thing about her in MvC2, and not just because she's trash
Someone at Capcom was like, "Finally! I may have failed my first design for Roll... but this next incarnation shall be... MY MASTERPIECE! Never again will my creations be considered garbage tier."
YOU CAN-- I never even _thought_ about sweeping up your own puddles. That's _so rad!_ If I had any appreciable patience for setting up anything more complicated than a S/NES emulator, I...well, I'd probably have finished that P1 playthrough I started first, but _then_ I would be on this so fast. Roll/Zero is even my _teeeeeeam let's goooooo_ Hadn't realized her TvC incarnation took inspiration from Powered Up, even despite that being one of the few games I've actually fully completed. But in hindsight, absolutely makes sense, yup. ...JM you made the MvC2 Roll video. You already know why they made her so powerful: to make up for every other fighting game she'd been playable in. :|
man keep up these awesome videos. I have so little knowledge of this game but remember loving it as a kid. And I find interesting character design super fascinating to learn. I’d love to see more obscure character explorations. Or even basic characters but from more obscure games.
If they managed to get the licenses to re-release this on Steam with rollback, I think this would be a top 5 GOAT game in the FGC. Love everything about this game, I should really give netplay a try on Dolphin...
Really cool to hear that one of my TvC mains is considered so highly... it's also just nice to see TvC getting some love through videos like this. It is my favourite of the Vs. Capcom games and this was both a fun and informative video (never knew about the puddle-sweep power-up mechanic).
Otg means “off the ground” not “on the ground”. If it meant on the ground then it would denote any attack performed on the ground. Off the ground is specifically used for an attack that is able to pick the opponent off the ground to continue a combo after being knocked down
My main team is Roll and Polimar. I'm surprised he didn't point out the charged water toss goes all the way across the screen and can be held after switching out meaning her assist will throw one straight beam and the rest are puddles. Roll ground scrape holds long enough for Polimar to run them over. She can also hold them on the ground long enough for Polimar to come back.
Another Roll Fact: Ok so since it was mentioned but not really talked to much about, Roll has a special of which it heals her. The special falls from the sky. It is incredibly good, as it heals ANY (be it foe or ally) robot character (Cashan, Mega Man Volnut, Zero) and does minor damage to any human characters. The downside is it would leave Roll preeeeetty vulnerable as she gets on her knees to wait for the heal. Back in the day, I would have Zero as a point character then eventually switch to Roll. With all the special I built, I could use Roll’s special to heal and Switch to Zero’s clone special for a heal and a power up for Zero. Stupid Fact: It also heals the giants of the game which come on... If they manage to steal that, they kind of deserve it. You have to be pretty bad to let that happen. I was a Lightan, Zero, Volnut main back in the day. Mostly Lightan.
I seem to recall she partners well with Alex since her assist covers his "divekick" really well. One of her strengths is that assists in general in this game are weaker. There are a ton of interesting other characters. Saki has an unblockable on incoming iirc and Yatter-2 has a summon super that leads to some truly oppressive blockstrings. Karas is so fast that his damage had to be nerfed to bits, and Alex can combo into an unscaled air command grab.
Real beauty of this game is the tier list is very balanced. Roll is actually low on the true tier list of this game but, as an anchor in some team combinations she is optimal. The deepness of this game is insane and there is still much to figure out. As far as top tier, that is exclusive for the characters with the best movement as well as heavy damage combos or Tod. Zero S+ (best character in the game) Tekkaman blade S Batsu B+ Ryu A Chun A+ ( best movement in the game ) Ippatsuman B Polimar B+ Giants C Casshern B+ Roll....... C Ken A Joe B Jun B+ Frank B+ Yatter 1 A Yatter 2 C Morrigan C Alex B Karas C Tekkaman B+ Megaman B+ Saki B Soki B Doronjo C Viewtiful joe C Its good to note ALL characters can do at least 25.-30bill dmg with assist and + barouqe 35-40bill and with lvl 3 there is alot of the cast that can Tod. and if there was ever an assist or team tier list roll would be high on that. The list is so tight there is only A through C tier, nothing lower. This is an Extremly balanced game - STRAIT
Man I wish I still had a copy of this game! I used to play Roll, Jun, Yatterman #2, and Saki. I sucked at all of them but the game was so fun and I pretty much just casually played it.
Tatsunoko Vs Capcom's Roll is a little devil and she is god like and she is the only one who can do an infinite combo hitting the opponent until the opponent faints and still keep going
That background is tigtht! This game is really interesting, the only thing I don't like is the same in MvsC2, that the game doesn't have the 6 button system. I know that Wii pads are weird but...
i know its not that good in pro play, but when her broom is charged her bucket also changes to be similar to a beam, so you can kinda zone people out with poodle+beam, it was how i used to play with her back then
