I first read Rebecca 20 years ago in a High School English class, and totally fell in love with it and the genre. To this day my absolute favourite stories are ones with a curious heroine, a new lover with a hidden past, in a big old house with a mystery and a ghost who haunts it (real or imagined)

@mistymoon883 there's a mobile app called Choices that has a game story just like that, the name is The Unexpected Heiress, I had fun playing it exactly for the plot

Many times in my life I have said that there are reasons for Rebeccas to exist. And so they should. Do you also feel this bigger than life character is so strong and became a heroine? They are all heroines in this story. Rebecca - as it was, played - according to Miss Denvers, with all men. Thinking less of them all because they all fall into her feet so easily to be played by her wits and beauty that she lure them all. Many men diserve rebeccas. They have Miss D Winters available but they desire Rebeccas...

We also see a young naive girl became a strong woman that is not aware of her strongness. And we see her loose her best feature - when she realises her husband is a killer. What a story!

she basically haunted the property. and she was a horrible wife, the dude couldn’t get over it. so it was like she never died. i don’t get why the book is named after her. it should be called the awful c*nt and her replacement.

Allthecharacters in this book are wonderful and full of surprises up to the end. ALL. May not be her most like novel - Daphne Du Maurier - but became her most notorious one. I ADORE that Rebecca played the last card even after she was dead. She set her husband up to murder her - in a last atempt to manipulate all that suround her. And she suceed. She prefered to die in her own terms. Not consumed by cancer, seing her beauty to fade and loosing her power over everyone she ever met. Even Miss Denvers was put aside her plans in the end... was never confied of Rebecca's true state. Played as well to fill her purpose... That's why she set the house on fire. Deep down, she was in desbelieve Rebecca didn't confide on her. Adorable story.

Such a great guessing game with this story - as soon as you think you have someone figured out, the twist comes and it’s never too ridiculous.

I would have left a long time ago. The guy is clearly not over his late wife when every little thing in the house is reminiscent of his late wife. She held out for way too long. The housekeeper also seemed strangely obsessed with the ex-wife.

Daphne du Maurier was the absolute master of the gothic novel.

This story is great, but the film didn't do that great a job with it. It looks great and the production was wonderful, but the script/screenplay was a bit lacking.

That room that the girl went into was not Rebecca's boudoir, but the morning room where Rebecca's desk was. The morning room was Rebecca's office. I first read the book when I was thirteen, Daphne Du Maurier is one of my favorite authors. This is an okay adaptation, so glad that there is still interest in Rebecca. I love the 1930s clothes the girl wears.

Rebecca is Maxim's late first wife . The girl is simply the second Mrs De Winter. However the Italian adaptation gave her a name, Jennifer

A remake of Rebecca should be done with freedom of adaptation towards contemporary days but one has to cast the PERFECT Miss D. Winter based on the contribution of Joan Fontaine beauty and flair for naive. It should have been a young Charlize Theron. Anyway, not a brunnet that died her hair blound and almost forgot her eyebrows. Just because it gets difficult to believe this is a simple naive young woman.

As a big fan of the book I think I've seen just about every version made of it. This one was the worst. Netflix's history of making a pigs ear out of book adaptations continues.

No they are right it’s not a film snob, they lost the essence of the main character, we are supposed to see her grow from being meek, embarrassingly awkward and in the shadow of the former wife and slowly gain confidence. Alfred Hitchcock’s version got the book right in those parts and not so much in others
