A good reason to use barbless trebles and hooks! 

I could care less bout damage to fish most times I do fish.i don't catch and release.i eat what I catch.catch and release is fishings equivalent to golf and attracts the same crowds.only reason I may need barbless is because I probably will need to make my own as this covid thing has driven costs up by rediculous amounts.very very rarely do I ever throw a fish back.and as such I often depend on those barbs especially with certain methods I use to fish.a fish lost is a meal lost.

The pure hooking is the same, but of course there is a bigger chance to loose an already hooked fish. If tension is kept properly this shouldn't be a problem. So I would say mistakes after hooking are punished harder, but if you don't make them the is no issue. Properly selected equipment of course also affects this, a very stiff rod and braided line for example are harder to handle than a lighter powered rod and fluorocarbon. If you use trebles or hooks with properly bent barbs instead of completely barbless ones, they still are easy to remove but don't get loose as easy unintentionally. Since it's not that easy to get every hook variant out there as a barbless one, that's why I often bend the barbs with pliers.

@@FishingDude I actually believe that barbless hooks can be easier to set deeply because there is no additional resistance from the barb. The fish will slip the hook more easily if tension is not maintained. But for SPORT fishing, barbless is the way to go. I have begun exchanging all my hooks for good Mustad 2/0-4/0 barbless. Unfortunately barbless hooks are hard to find and I have to specially order them. It is more sportsmanlike for catch and release fishing. For meat fishing anything goes.

Ah yet another catch and releaser.let me guess,bass fisher.worthless fish.eats all the bait fish that could feed the real fish we eat.and often not enough meat on a bass to be worth the trouble.they are just a swimming mouth.
