A Gorgeous, Spiritual Successor to "The Settlers" - Pioneers of Pagonia 

I wonder if you could upgrade the Guard tower on two paths one could be City watch and its duties change as it is now inside a settlement/city, the other could be Frontier fortification.

If it works the same as Settlers 2 then you need two woodcutters to counter 1 forester fully so that it won't seed out of control. Or maybe it's 3 woodcutters for 2 foresters - my memory is a bit foggy about the ratio.

I feel like games these days are either $100 AAA blockbusters which are unplayably bugged for the first three months, followed by $10 DLCs and microtransaction lootboxes under the guise of "live service", or a pre-alpha of an early access version of the beta of the early access release of the kickstarter. Nothing in between!

I'm actually happy that this game is more grindlike. I hate organic roads. xD Give me a good old Roman grid city anyday of the week.

It looks promising but we need real farms. Hopefully roads will be upgraded to mitigate congestion. Thanks for testing this game!

It reminds me a lot like Settlers 1&2, so if that's the case it might be against an AI opponent or 2, and coins were for higher tier units

Volker Wertich's giant middle finger to Ubisoft after that New Allies abomination looks pretty amazing after such a short time. Can't wait to see what it looks like in a years time.

It's interesting to see the reaction outside of Germany since Settlers is pretty big there, but we haven't had a good installment (short of remakes) since 2003. Pioneers of Pagonia is specifically made by the man who created The Settlers, although moving away from PvP (PvE will be a thing, though) in favor of a more cooperative setting. Some of the final objectives do take quite a bit of waiting, but even the third map can be completed in less than 90 minutes. Maybe it's my experience with the old Settlers, but then again, not all rules apply exactly. If you haven't played the first four games, you might want to do so for context. The first is the primary inspiration, although you could probably skip it in favor of II (which Wertich did not work on), which is for the most part an enhanced version of the first game. The third game (which Wertich returned for) and it's immediate successor have a very dedicated community and received a bunch of community upgrades in recent years. All that said, going into these games without any context might be a bit unintuitive, and some mechanics are a bit opaque. You might want to have someone present who can explain things in a bit more detail.

Full 3D is overrated for RTS games honestly, except for city builders like the Anno series, this would be so much cooler and easier to handle in a 2.5D isometric view in my opinion

It's really good to see you not holding up about the critics. That's the main objective of an Early Access game in my view, it's to be criticized so it can evolve. Many of the complaints you have didn't exist in The Settlers III which was the last game Volker worked on, the creator of The Settlers. If he could make it a little bit more like it, I'm sure it would feel much better.

It´s looks like a fun game! Fun fact: (maybe related to the game or not) In Argentina there is literally a region called Patagonia, it was named that way by the Europeans because there were Patagones -a race of giants- that supposedly lived there, it´s like the land in the game and was a place for many settlers (mostly Welsh but also Germans and others too). It´s seems like the creators maybe took inspiration and took the TA of the name and said "it´s done".

So hyped for this Video, gonna watch it later. As a german, i have played all settler games and am exited that Volker is working on a settler-like game again (especially after the flop of the newest settler game...). Just (negatively) curious how the game will work without pvp or a Real pve

6:15 Traffic jam?? That is the entire reason people play this game. How to solve bottlenecks and get a lean machine. Why would I want them to go around?

Anyone remember hitting F12 in settlers 3 to fast forward 1 minute only to find half the kingdom taken over by an enemy attack? Ahh good times... :D

Reminds me heavily of Knights & Merchants which I think was pre the settlers franchise. The aesthetic of the buildings to the map design but mostly the road congestion. It was super important to have an efficient building layout. Looks interesting & hopefully they sort out the farming/fields issue.

Why not just make a new tower in the direction you want to expand? That would speed things up 🤷‍♂️ can’t just have 1 of each if you want to speed things up.

I would have to disagree with you on the statement that no one wants to sit around for 45 minutes watching a building get built. Most of the old city builder games i play for that exact reason. I love making a big plan and then sit and watch as i comes together. But if they could have 2 modes i think that would be a good way to solve this issue.

Ive tried to play the demo but it keeps crashing on me whilst starting a game.. Its probably my pc because it sucks. And im sure as hell nog gonna buy a new pc with all the price gouging going on at the moment.

it looks like settlers 7 rev.2 to me. maybe they'll do it better, ubisoft failed miserably in this regard

This game is ADDICTIVE! i downloaded the demo yesterday and ended up playing for about 6 hours!

I was really looking for something to scratch the 'Banished' itch and was short of pulling the trigger on the new Settlers game until someone mentioned this game. This looks so much better. I'll just wait it out. I don't normally buy Early Access games but I think I'll consider this one worthy.

10:10 Nope nothing else is there, You are correct on not placing foresters in construction zones. Rest is on you, why would I want to know where forester will dig put a sappling down? That's where the fun is.

Can we just take a moment to look at the guy on the right hand side of the main menu? That tunic looks oddly familiar. He was known as Chicken Chaser, I believe.

I mean it seems to have a fair amount of problems but the foundation is strong Played my first settler game not long ago with the newest one but man that one grew old fast but nothing else really has scratched that ich yet Really do hope this one turns out great

Graphics are great but I feel like gameplay is rather oldschool compared to other games. There are so many awsome mechanics being explored in the genre that this game is missing.

If this is a successor to OG settlers then Silver/Gold is used to make coins to hire and promote soldiers. Its extremely important when you have an enemy but not when your free play like this demo.

About trees, it looks like settlers 3 where trees in certain areas where just on of the problems to solve ;)

I really hope they fix some of these things. Speed control is absolutely necessary. The pathing and road system needs a little work. But this game is gorgeous and I REALLY want to play it. I'm unsure whether or not to try the demo and potentially ruin the experience. Great video!

Given the reviews on Steam for _Path of War,_ the only other Envision Entertainment game, I'm definitely in the wait and see what this becomes zone before I'd consider giving this much consideration.

I hope they don't put in a speed setting, both to spite you and also to make people actually have to think through their planning.

Frankly, after watching your video, I have decided to remove the game from my steam wishlist... to many glaring problems imho.

I don't like the way that boundaries are pushed out over time. I think boundary expansion should be set (or contended) when you build a building. Should also be using fences/walls (with access gates) rather than stone markers. The existing fences/walls can be left intact or demolished when expanding further. Then you can create inner-city zones, border zones, districts, etc...

I would love to see more HoI4 modded. especially since we haven't seen that in a while. Equestria at war has been significantly added, especially since another continent was added.

Oh no... I remember in Settlers they used a "skip time" system where you pressed one of the F* buttons and it would jump forward 5mins later. I hope they don't use that system here as well...

So the map is static in the demo? Makes me wonder just how much replayability this game is going to have.

The Settlers 3 or 4 is still better. Waiting for remaster... I had a hope but unfortunately not this time. PoP removed from my Steam wishlist.

.... Cute game but at a glance, several issues are obvious : 1. Roads need upgrades 2. Guards need to guard, not place stuff, if get attacked and they are 500 miles away placing stones, who guards what ? Also frontier guards or towers . 3. As mentioned, speed modifiers. 4. Awkward placing of buildings. It looks like he struggles to place them or position it ideally. 5. Patchy farming ?! LOL !!! 6. Clear, demolish, delete. 7. Pausing or distributing more manpower to buildings. Hm, quite a list here, didn't think it'll get this big... oh well.. Cheers !!! .....
