While I often talk about all of the cool professional and custom trombones we have in the shop we also have a wide range of intermediate-level options from a number of makers that can be just the right fit, depending on the player! The Eastman ETB428MG is a part of these excellent intermediate and features an 8 1/2" gold brass bell, open wrap F-attachment and .525" bore handslide. Great analysis of a good all-purpose horn that might be worth considering for a lot of viewers (I'll keep my '81 restored Bach 42b for the time being). At my local music store (here in Northern Ontario, Canada) they carry this exact horn for $2,115 (US). The horn sounds pretty good for that price in my opinion. George, Sudbury, Canada

Great comments and analysis! What would you suggest for an older player who played a Bach 42 "back in the day" (80s-90s!). Now playing for leisure in a community orchestra. I want one that is a bit easier to play, big sound, but just a nice work of art, too. Matte finish (antique-like), incl. F-attachment.

I have to ask: with Eastman and Shires link do you find any Shireslike functions? You sound fine... not Shires Alessi fine, but fine. You should get a high school sophomore or junior to tapea blow test.

This horn sounds really nice! How does it compare to a Bach 36 with trigger?

The 36 is going to be at a different level in terms of sound and nuance in response, no doubt; however, it is also heavier (for middle-school age students this might make a difference) and brand new over twice the price (the new 36BO is running $3700…)
