Yes I agree. I love the GWR and everything about them. The locomotives, (in real life and the model form), in the authentic GW livery with the golden dome and copper top chimney are brilliant
Lovely running session mate it does so happen that my great grandad was once a driver of the City of Turo at one time I was suprised to discover, explains my dad side of train loving i guess lol Keep it up all best Dave
For my birthday, I got some stuff done early, so I looked at my first train, the SP Daylight 4449, and I thought "What if she whistles happy birthday to me?" So I created a recording from different videos, and for a part in my birthday video today, she actually whistles happy birthday to me! However, I use captions at some points to let people know what also needs to be said. So for the 4449 part, while she's whistling, captions will explain in her language what is being said!
This is my favourite running session video of all. Your Manor engine Broome Manor stands out from the GWR crowd for me, more than any other model GWR engine you've shown in other videos so far. With the exception of Duck and Oliver from Thomas and Friends, that is. Broome Manor, please run more often on Sam's layout; you are a credit to God's Wonderful Railway (nickname of Great Western Railway). Pretty please Sam, let me see more of Broome Manor on your layout. She's a wonderful example of the 78xx Class, and she's won my heart a thousand times over. I'd be very grateful. Thankyou so much.
Sorry for the late comment but i was in London for a day. This video about the GWR running is great! Yes i have also buying new things for my layout. A Castle class in a trainpack and a rebuilt patriot class.
Wish I'd seen this earlier. Glad I've found it because I love GW engines. I'd love to see your layout and run my own engines on it (though my collection is nothing compared to yours)
I always think of the Deans Goods as the old man from the war. The big strong youngster back in the day but now a small old man who goes at its own pace. And 3 coaches aren't a difficulty for the single in real life, Sterling Singles pulled express trains from London to Edinburgh.
haha absolutely - that's a really good way to think of them, I agree! I know - I've seen some photos of them, I'm amazed by how much they could manage with just the one set of driven wheels! Cheers, Sam :)
HI Josh - really glad you liked it mate! Hope you had fun at Warley - and 300 quid on engines is a good way to be poorer in my book ;D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The coaches Lord of the Isles was pulling were Lima coaches - continental European Pullman style ones painted in GW colours. But they look just fine behind the single wheeler, almost right for the era!
Hi Sam , thanks for the mention re - my County Class loco and it is still one of my favourites on the layout . Yours with the TTS does sound good , for the price I think they are great value . I have heard about issues with some controllers but since I got the Hornby Elite last year I have had no problems at all with any of my Bachman either . Cheers.......Peter.
Thanks Peter, yeah your County has always stuck in my head - I'm happy with my TTS one, but obviously yours are far superior! Yes I've heard that the Elite is a good controller for compatibility! All the best mate, Sam :)
Thank you! I was really happy with it too - I don't think the whistles are quite right, but other than that I'm pleased!! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hi Sam. Just a line to enforce the fact that I thoroughly enjoy your videos, especially the GWR running sessions. I was lucky enough to pick up the full Lord of the Isles set, complete with the clerestory coaches. If you think the loco is beautiful, you should see it pulling a rake of clerestory coaches behind it. It is awesome. I also picked up another single wheeler, Duke of Edinburgh I think along with a different set of clerestory coaches. They are indeed beautiful locos but I think the coaches really enhance their looks greatly.
Great video of Gods Wonderful Railway engines. Incidentally, the Achilles Class Lord Of The Isles was first made by Triang and later introduced by Hornby in 2000 with a redesigned chassis and metal wheeled front bogie. Several other locos of the class were also produced as limited editions of 2000 each. Some of these were produced in sets with clerestory coaches as well, named Great Western, Royal Sovereign and Lord Of The Isles. Single limited edition locos were Duke of Edinburgh and Lorna Doone, Although none of this class survived, a non working replica of Royal Sovereign, renamed The Queen for Victoria's Golden Jubilee, can be seen today at Windsor Railway Station. The original Royal Sovereign was used to pull the Royal Train, which is at the NRM.
Thanks a lot mate, yes I'm familiar with the redesigned chassis version - it's not perfect, but it's a definite improvement! Didn't know there were that many though - thanks for that! Cheers, Sam :)
Nice running session! Just ordered a model of the GWR 43xx #5322 today too so I'll have a GWR locomotive on my roster (although I've only been getting american locomotives so far). It'd actually be pretty nice to see a review on the 43xx too. They are some pretty nice looking engines. Also, I have to do this. XD "There are only two ways of doing things. The Great Western Way or the wrong way."
I loved seeing that dean single the manor and the county racing around the layout I think I shall have to get them as I am building a Dawlish sea wall layout
That’s some lovely GWR locomotives, guess l’ve got to be a little biased towards them as many were built in my home town. Nice to see some of my wagons running behind the Ocean ones 😉.
That County class made me laugh I was about to ask why it was running so slow I thought it was a funeral train at first but then to my amazement you speeded her up, that made me smile but was not too keen on her whistle . I really enjoyed your Friday super chat and thank you for your nice comments and for taking the time to look at my shelf's on Snupps . Just a little bit of constructive criticism (I know you like a bit of feed back) The 14xx review could of been done on one of your pre recorded episodes we value your live ones and only a couple more to go. only 5 more days until Friday from Michael :)
Thanks so much Michael, haha yes the whistle isn't perfect on that, but I'm quite happy with the sound in general! No problem at all - thank you so much for all your kind support with the superchats, it really really is very generous of you! Yes absolutely - I know that reviews are better suited to being pre-recorded, but I wanted to give it a try live for obvious reasons - it also gave me time to delve deep into those various issues too! 99% of my reviews will be pre-recorded though, don't worry - I'll just do minor ones once in a while during the streams! Thanks again mate, Sam :)
Thanks Andrew - I've always loved that about them too - they all look related! Okay that'd be a good idea - although I'd have to do some research on that myself too! Cheers, Sam :)
Sam's Trains My number 1 favorite 4-4-0 (American) steam locomotive engine train with tender full of coal and water that's preserved at the National Railway Museum (1975-) in York, England is the GWR 3700 Class 3440 City of Truro (1903).
Love the Dean Goods and Single. And the Dukedog is my favorite! Would you considder getting any crews for your engines? Open cabs like that look eerily empty without a driver and fireman in them. I try to fit crews to all my engines where I can, brings so much more life to them.
Thanks Jonatan, glad you liked those! I think I'd go broke if I had to buy crews for all my engines - but I think it would be fun to fit them into the open cabbed ones as you say! All the best mate, Sam :)
Sam I think I'm starting to share your love of 4-4-0s. the D16, the K2, the county class, Jupiter... the list goes on. Edit: almost forgot the city class!
All right. For those who doubt new York central 999 100mph claim, to be fair, he was made to pull the empire state express. And people were saying it preformed with great speed!
great western ahh the best out of them all ;) but I do love the lms livery haha, I do love me a small little steam loco when I see one, they all ways look amazing with there1/2 coaches when they get the chance :) I think maybe you should get some oxford wagons they really are worth the price ;) I think this is the longest video you have made in a while, superb :)
Well how about that? I just had my 'Lord of the Isles' out for a run today. Surprisingly she was going very well, but they all seem to make that distinctive noise. Three coaches is about all it can take. 'Little Giant' can take four coaches easily and 5 with a bit of wheel spin.
Hey Sam, just found out that 7802 Bradley Manor and 7819 Hinton Manor are also preserved at SVR. That means 3/9 of the preserved Manor classes are at SVR which runs between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster.
haha - Evan's got a point! I think Barrie Davis's video is still there - so check it out on his channel! I also offer a basic explanation on how to do it on my turntable video! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
If u can synchronize the chafing with the wheel turn, and it should be fine. I do hope once u do the Earl-City classes double-heading. I wonder if locos like the 43XX that has small outer cylinders are Compound locos, or the valve gear just hidden between them (for the twin build).
And our weirdest loco from the 1800's is has to be the 222 class witch is a tandem-compound express loco: www.kosanyo.hu/picture/mozdony/g222e.jpg (look the cylinders) but the 250 class is weirdo too: www.kosanyo.hu/picture/mozdony/g250.jpg
Hi Tom, unfortunately the synchronisation is completely automatic, so there's nothing much you can do about it really! Ooh yeah that would be a nice thing to do - very good idea mate! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
That's an awesome idea! I'm not taking more requests right now, but I'll be opening them up again in the next series of live streams!! Happy New Year - Sam :)
Hi mate - I can't make any guarantees about making that running session - although it's a fantastic idea! I did show your requests during Friday's stream though! :D Cheers, Sam :)
Lovely sesh. I'm not a GWR fan, by any stretch of the imagination, so the highlight for me was at 23:24 - thinking "He's not gonna sell much ice cream going at that speed." Hahaha 😉
Hey Sam! I have a old tender driven castle (DCC fitted no socket) and the A1 (DCC sound) I showed you is jamming the wheels and gear. How much would it cost to fix them please. Thanks, Callum
Hi Callum, could you possibly send me a photo of the damage? Generally I won't be able to offer repairs on damage as extensive as that, but I can confirm that having seen a photo! All the best, Sam :)
Hey Sam! Can you do my request next stream? I said it in the stream on Friday, but I don't think it went through. It was the Flying Scotsman double-headed with Evening Star and some LNER Teak Coaches. I would appreciate it if you did! Thanks mate, Tyson'sTrains
Hi Tyson, the requests in the streams are very competitive - so you have to use the superchat function if you have anything you'd like to be shown, and that way you can help support my channel too! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Does anyone know how I can get hold of a Dean Goods locomotive safety valve cover as I am missing mine? The scale is OO. The model is quite old (50 yrs?). Great video by the way!
That'll probably be the Airfix/Mainline type one then - Ebay is your best bet - try to pick one up for spares, and salvage the parts you need! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
