Shaunée Nicole I agree.. my Mom raised my 3 cousin’s. Their mother came to visit them after 3 years after they had been living with us. The two you were 2 & 4(My uncle’s daughter’s). Fast forward my uncle changed his life & built a better relationship with his girls(they’re adults now. My Uncle passed away recent. Their Mom told her family that we kept them away from her all of those years. Not once did she ever try to get them back or build a life with them or help my Mom out Financially . @@crystalo8603 you'd be surprised what a child can handle. So don't start a family until you are married and can feed your family" or "I don't know where your mommy is. Your guess is as good as mine, but we love you and today we got you that pie that you like!" I would love them yet teach them how life works so that when mommy breezes back in with her lame excuses, the kids can tell all by themselves that she didn't even try to be a mother.

that's where I disagree at a certain age you ask questions about where your mom is, having a child does not make you a mother, raising a child does. parenting is more than giving birth spoken by a mother of 3 who was brought up by my grandmother who in every way was my mother. dont get me wrong I thank my mother who gave birth to for my life because that what I was taught by my grandmother however now that I have become a mom myself i am not as judgemental as I was before when it comes to my birth mom and have learned to forgive and move forward. however the person who I have the most love and respect for is still the person who raised me and not the one that made the choice not too.

My mother was on drugs and in and out of prison my entire life. I remember one of her former classmates told me my mother had been gang raped when she was in high school. So, if the mama was lying on the family who raised her, they’re just supposed to let the girl think it’s the truth? There was nothing inappropriate about her family telling her the truth. It was her story as well as the mother’s.
@OneLoveRSR
@OneLoveRSR 3 года назад
What was inappropriate was speaking for her mother. There's a difference between telling the truth, and telling someone's story. The truth is, the mother was too young to handle the responsibility of raising a child. The telling of someone's story is the editorializing of what they wanted, what they didn't want, how they felt and why they did what they did, from your own perspective -- not the perspective of the person whose story you're telling. That's like me saying "you cheated on your husband because you never loved him in the first place." I don't know that and that's not my place to say it. All because it's true that you cheated on your husband, doesn't make my personal assessment that you never loved him true. That's YOUR story to tell.

People are broken and desperately need a healing for wounds often scabbed over, so of course, this situation is no different than a child losing a parent in a car accident, if a child is not properly treated for emotional trauma, they typically grow up being emotionally traumatized adults. Why is that too often, people will finds means of buying something that a child really wants but can’t use that same gusto and tenacity to get a child in therapy that can possibly help them understand their wounds. As a black man, , I believe in prayer, professional mental therapy and accountability. I think a-lot of children would benefit from therapies. There are way too many incidents in our community that clearly demonstrates that our little people are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorders.

I dont find that as disrespect. Mom didnt stay around to handle her responsibility mom or dad. So whoever raises you gets to tell the story how they please until you come back around. Questions get asked and its disrespectdul to hold secrets from a child yearning for answers about their parents. So much more to it im sure but not disrespect at all. Thats all opinion

How can someone take your child from you, you know where your child is and not get them back if you wanted too? That doesn't make sense. Her mother abandoned her.

Iyanla was being too sensitive..................like people don't you at a certain point in your life. If her mama didn't wanna raise her she just didn't, aint nothin wrong with someone telling you the truth. Her mama lied to her, so what now she should accept the lie?

Its inappropriate for Iyanla to tell her that her Aunt was inappropriate for sharing her moms story.....thats a conversation Iyanla should have with her aunt.....so I see why she got an attitude...Iyanla was wrong for that one

She's not a mom is she? I'm not either, but I can understand that being a mom and a young mom probably involves a lot of deep hard decisions. So no, no on should tell my story b.c the reason I do things may not be understood by others

I disagree. I believe people who are present, can share their experiemce of what happened. Sometimes we don’t always get the truth from our own parents.

Iyanla is right......I just wish my mother would talk and tell me her story and why she abandon me. Now she's 85 and we have gone years without speaking to each other even during the pandemic.

People are saying the mom lost the right to tell her story -- she didn't. Children should know the truth about a lot of things but don't take the opportunity to go in on their "parent" due to their poor choices. You can be truth by saying "They aren't ready/prepared to be the parent you need right now." Instead of building anger, resentment and etc. in a child, build their emotional stability and discernment. And if many years go by without their parent ever being present, seek professional therapy/guidance when delving deeper so that that child can have the proper tools to navigate those emotions.

If she would've been there nobody would've had to tell her story.

Iyanla contradicted herself. In one scene she told Jackie, the mother, that she should’ve have told her kids about her past (can’t remember the specific incident they were discussing). I know y’all remember when she said “Very few kids need to know that they’re mother was a ho.” Yeah, that scene. Now in this scene she is saying that only the mother can tell her story. Which is it, can the mother tell her story or not? && don’t say she should cherrypick. Either tell it all, or don’t tell none of it.
