The Nintendo 3DS might have released over a decade ago, but it remains popular and the prices have been increasing in recent years. Last year I made a guide video on buying a 3DS in 2023, so it's time to update the guide for both new and existing 3DS owners. Let's take a look at which 3DS is right for you.

I got a "new" Nintendo 3DS XL from someone at my school for only 5$ since it was in cosmetically bad condition and he just wanted to get rid of it. It was originally black, but after replacing the outside top shell, outside bottom shell, and battery cover with red ones. So I basically made my own "custom" "new" Nintendo 3DS XL that is red on the exterior and black on the interior. I also had to replace the micro SD card slot and speakers due to the micro SD card slot being dented down and the speakers being busted, but it wasn't difficult to do the repairs and I spent 30$ to buy the parts. So I basically bought it for just 35$ after I repaired it, which was less than a quarter than what those go for on eBay! Probably one of my best purchases ever and I'm very happy with it!

Those average prices are if you don’t care about the condition of the device, in my searches. If you want a pretty condition one it’ll be about $40-50 more than your listed prices, not including shipping.

I kept my eye on local second hand markets and found a new 3ds xl for 60$ (it was 80, but I managed to get 20 knocked off for the microphone not working and the battery being so bloated it blew out the back) I replaced the battery and I've never been so happy with a purchase. If you're patient there are some great deals out there!

I just bought myself a regular 3ds (CFW) yesterday for only 2,200 pesos or 38.39 dollars (according to google). I got lucky because the seller is having a rush sale so most of their prices are below average. The unit itself is still presentable but the Dpad's paint is starting to chip. Overall, there's no major issues and I consider it a once in a lifetime offer. Good thing I saw it immediately because after a day, their rush sale was already sold

i think buying regular 3DS for under 50 USD is a high risk high reward move. I bought 3DS for 39 USD (it already includes shipment) and everything look perfect. No yellow screen, dpad/button are in great condition, all hardware are the original nintendo (no third party replacement), camera works great but it turns out the 3DS will suddenly turn off if i move it around too much. Thankfully the fix is simple, which is put small cardboard inside the back panel of 3DS (issues with battery being loose) and since then my 3DS work flawlessly. My brother on the other hand got 3DS for 44 USD and some parts are replaced using third party parts, the battery last way shorter, and the SD card suddenly broke. To anyone want to buy 3DS under 50 USD i recommend to buy one without SD card (usually a bit cheaper), use a brand new SD card and mod it (since almost all 3DS under 50 USD are japanese model, you can only use it if you change region through CFW)ris

I spent $300 AUD importing one from Buyee since our local prices were a bit insane (like 7 months ago?) Just went for one that looked good, Ended up being a Dual IPS and it had like 1 tiny scuff on the pad and looks brand new otherwise, think I lucked out tbh.

Just got a new 3ds special edition red X and Y Pokémon cover like you showed in the video being blue. Mint mint condition 300.00$ did a birthday spoil to myself. Got complete edition of Pokémon heart gold and soul silver at 200.00$ a pop

You could check out Mercari and Offerup for local prices around you and eBay as well. The best systems would be the New 3DS XL with IPS screens👍

The local pick-up on Mercari and offerup would be different. I guess in Japan you could shop locally at Japanese game stores and see what you find.

Yeah, you can still play your physical games, but any updates or DLC can't be downloaded directly from the Eshop.

I think it will be safer if they're verified, but Mercari should refund you the money even if they aren't verified.

I found my very first 3ds xl after a long time because I was hit by the nostalgia and wanted to mod it and have some good times with it again. However I was searching for a second hand new 3ds xl because I couldn't find mine and I was very skeptical about japanese 3ds imports because I knew absolutely nothing, but hey, at least I know now that I could get a japanese 3ds a turn it into a european one with ease, in case my 3ds actually dies because it's the very first 3ds xl model xD

I remember when I was 16 my mom sent me to Africa to stay with relatives for the summer. But my selfish cousin didn't want to let me borrow his DSi XL and his Pokemon black 2 game even though I let him have my Xbox 360 Slim when I got a PS3. I did it because I felt bad that his parents refused to buy him a gaming console but the sad thing about it is my cousin is a real nice guy but apparently I was too young to know that kindness is seen as weakness by most people in this world 🤷🏾‍♂️

The DSI with Pokemon would've been an awesome playthrough, but we maybe didn't know better when we were younger. I think maybe people confuse kindness for weakness, when it should be "treat others how you want to be treated," but Idk, I just play gameboy games over here👍

Because in the prehistoric caveman era life was shorter and a lot harder to live I know times have changed but humans have been hunter gatherers for most of human history and that mentality is never going away. So of course people are gonna take advantage of you if you're dumb enough to help them out without any self benefit.

Make sure to back up the SD card often if you weren’t provided a copy of the original sysNAND backup 🤞 I would make a copy of what’s already on it, then make additional separate backups every few months just to be on the safe side.

well for me old 3ds is enough the new 3ds is mostly for emulation and extra battery life edit: i got my 3ds for 60$ which makes it a really different from NEW 3ds prices
