As the ultimate clap fakeout lore gamer I can admire the fact that you left the most obvious broken ability this weapon has. Well done. There are few of us left, we should watch out for eachother.
Thank you for covering nails so thoroughly. As the best nails player I approve of this video. Although you failed to mention Soft Block. I find Soft Block to be better than Haymaker in general. Soft Block is a speedy low risk safety tool which lets you stay in the fight with it's minimal end lag. Haymaker is less reliable overall due to it's speed, hyper armor does make it viable, but the move struggles in certain matchups like axe which has abundant ragdoll moves. DMG gear choice is fine, but defensive gear can also work to extend fights so that you have more opportunities to land Rune Of Attrition which is the main damage source. This is really niche and not worth mentioning, but Nails Parry can also activate against non-damaging abilities, for example Banjo effects under certain conditions. Overall great video, I especially appreciate that Parry into Rune Of Attrition is covered (not everyone knows that somehow). I hope to see more Nails players around, it is a really fun, but underlooked weapon. Also Lukasha is #NumberTwoNails (Sorry Lukasha 😎)
Soft block was honestly an overlooked ability, its actually really useful. Works as a 2nd parry with the upsides of the fact it has no endlag if you miss it or not. So if you for example use soft block but miss timed it and the opponent didnt attack. You can't get punished as you won't have to deal with the endlag, can even use a parry directly after. Makes nails act as a mace with double parrys, but combined with the attacks of dagger.
I didn’t cover it cause generally you get more use out of haymaker tbh. it falters against zweihander because of its two hit m2, and if you block an attack that has low end lag, chances are your opponent can dash out
Well the main use out of soft block is the fact it has little to no endlag, allowing you to use parry or i-frame directly after. Allowing for example being able to avoid the 2nd m2 hit of zweihander or any other multi hit move.@@byoders_
You still need to cover soft block, as it's a really good tool for getting in range safely, and can be used before a parry to counter stuff like the zwei heavy (if you're not completely confident in your reaction speed). Having extremely low recovery time definitely helps as well
I didn’t cover it because I think s just do the job better overall. People blocked by soft block can still escape by dashing or parrying if you try to counter with it, and with s you can act a lot earlier than with soft block. Combined with the new endlag mechanic, (which activates if you their attack, but not with soft block) and I just think that soft block isn’t essential. The zweihander heavy can be easily countered by iframing the first hit and then parrying.
@byoders_ I think its more down to how you tend to utilize it. Once you're done with the combo string, using soft block is, more often than not, a safe option after the m2: If they parry immediately, you recover much faster. If they dodge away, you can chase them and continue the combo. If they attack, you just saved yourself and opened them to another combo. Parry is a lot riskier to use due to how finicky the counterhit is, and how long the recovery is. Soft block is the better option for staying on the offensive.
Unrelated question: I just refound this game and made a new save, I don't remember a whole lot because I played this last months ago. I was recently trying to get the door code for that bright lantern and cool spell to show up but the codes that I am inputting at the statues aren't working even though I am doing all of them in front of their respective statues and doing all of them with the caps in the right places. Is there a memory requirement that I don't know about or a way to troubleshoot this?
wdym their respective statues? the best way to do it is to decipher the code that is near the lagoon, there is a video online that shows how to do this the “glyphs” that are on the lagoon place correspond to the phrases you need to say. Once you find the phrases, go back to bulwark and in front of the big door. Recite the deciphered messages in order and that should open the door. Best suggestion I can give is to just follow the other guides on RU-vid cause I have made a video on the door
@@byoders_ I meant that the code in the lagoon isn't appearing when I say the stuff I am supposed to say to get it to appear (may be misremembering because I haven't played in a while)
@@byoders_ to clarify, the words are not on the place they are supposed to be and I think I remember doing a set of codes at the statues to get the codes for the door to appear but it isn't working. Is there a memory req to get the door code?
@@byoders_ but yeah I need help because every video I have seen on it already has the code shown on their statue thing but I don't and I am unsure if it is a memory thing or if I need to do something else.
I know i'm late to the party with this comment but the reason I didn't include soft block is because I'm honestly not a fan of it. I value the super armor attacks a lot because it plays into my playstyle, and also because soft block is pretty inconsistent for counterattacking. Since soft block doesn't give the other player whiff endlag, its much, MUCH harder to land an attack before they parry/dash away. It can be used defensively to block an attack which is nice, but I just don't like using it. Use what you want of course. also with the "recent" buff to nails damage it's actually quite an insane weapon currently
@@Vainglore honestly since the recent huge nails damage buff id recommend not following the guides recommended armor because it’s not really needed. Just go with some armor that gives you s but still a good amount of protection
@@byoders_ and also I'm thinking about also using sparth axe, you know any good armors for that? I'm probably going to end up using both so if you are able to answer both questions I would really appreciate it.
