I choose matcha green tea. It makes me more active and relax for longer time. Coffee has abrupt burst of effect and it will make you jittery after 4 hours.
Even though it's not the best option to drink my coffee first thing in the morning, I'm not sure I'm going to stop having it straight away! Interesting video Mike and Matty!
Ya I too kind of feel tired and beaten up during the first initial 2hrs after waking up hours waiting for the cortisol to kick in . Caffeine kind of fixes that bridge and makes me instantly active.
I'm highly sensitive to coffee so I drink it once in a blue moon. Yesterday I drank less than a cup of coffee around 2pm just to boost my energy because I was feeling sluggish, but when night time came I could not sleep untill 3am
Are you my lost brother? I legit have the same issue I am sluggy all day and I would have consumed like 10 cups of coffee last year It just shoots me up so high i can not sleep all night even if I drank it at 7am and that too on a stressful exam day
when I first started drinking coffee I was pretty sensitive to it (I would drink at 1 pm and it used to keep me awake till 1-2 am) but now after 2 years, I literally drink one cup at 7 pm and I pass out to heavy sleep at around 10:30 pm.
I used to chug coffee all day from 8am to 9pm and fall asleep within 2 mins when I went to bed at 11pm. Now I don’t drink it. I am convinced that although I fell asleep quickly it screwed with my deep sleep and in turn my memory / learning.
As a Chinese living in Melbourne, I love Melbs coffee and during my covid online courses, I always pursue coffee in the morning or early afternoon like flat white or long black. But soon I found it was not as helpful as the first time gradually, so I switched to tea. tbh, I think tea suits much more than coffee to my body. There was a time if I got double doses of espresso, my heart would beat so fast that I couldn't even focus. But with morning tea, no matter it's green tea leaves (genuine tea leaves I took from China which was bought by my dad who is a tea-holic) or multiple black tea bags, I never feel quick heartbeat! And I just gradually become wide awake with more focus on my tasks! For coffee, just like Mike mentioned, I feel sleepy very quickly after a quick caffeine boost. So I would suggest students take very good green tea leaves (green tea has the most caffeine than black ones especially in very complete and nice leaves) in the morning, and try coffee after lunch.
buddy, you think anyone drinks 16 cups of tea a day that's literally 4 liters a day. You probably would have liver problems if you drank that much tea a day unless you made it very weak. There's probably some Nigel somewhere in Britain that drinks that much but they have to be rare. Also the Irish and Turks drink more tea than the brits.
After drinking a cup of coffee I get almost instantly reeeeaaaallly tired and sleepy and I need to take a nap. But I love the taste of coffee so I drunk it regularly.
Thanks for this one. I quit coffee last year December, but my withdrawals are not smooth. I am still suffering from no motivation, and everything around me is boring. It’s weird for not drinking caffeine and the effects feels like you lived in a different world.
I used to drink 4 cups of sweetened coffee a day in college. Now that I’m a 29-y/o working gal, I switched to matcha in the afternoons for better sleep and less anxiety. My focus has never been better, too!
I usually drink my coffee or Hong Kong style milk tea (the thing is highly caffeinated, even more than coffee according to some reports) with my lunch, it powers me through my afternoon slumps. I find that coffee first thing in the morning triggers my IBS, such a bother. Other than this caffeine boost, it's usually Chinese style tea, so, basically tea leaves in mug, and water is added when it gets low to the same leaves. That controls the caffeine, and is basically just flavoured water past the first few cups. I recommend Pu'er after a heavy meal.
I'm a caffeine junky who has built way to much tolerance and dependence... I'm trying to leave it completely but the abstinence syndrome (sleepiness all day, lack of motivation, etc) is making it hard
I have pretty strong tolerance to caffeine, so I don't really feel any difference between drinking it and not drinking it: I sleep the same, the sleep quality is the same, my energy during work is the same So I pretty much just drink it for the taste and use other, way more effective means of having my energy and focus at 100% throughout the entire day
@@timaa.4379 convince yourself you don’t need it 🤔 for me it’s water + movement + fresh air + good mood whenever losing focus. But my actual secret is: I never started coffee in the first place :D black tea as an evening drink since I was a kid - doesn’t keep me awake tho lol
@@timaa.4379 I used to drink tea, in fact I loved it, but when I saw that It brought more harm than good for me, I just used the natural ways like exercising, sleeping right, drinking water and the right kind of food. It's not that hard but it does take time.
I think I don't feel the "focusing effect" from either. I know that I will stay up longer that night if I drink past 1pm though. Coffee, when I have tried it a couple times makes me jittery and have anxiety. Tea makes me feel good because I like drinking it, but does not improve my focus. Maybe something is wrong with me? I drink all kinds of tea. Mostly matcha, green and white tea. Sometimes black tea as a milk tea.
Try coffee with L-theanine. It takes the jitteriness away and is also the compound found in green tea that makes it feel relaxing. I quit coffee but still take the l theanine occasionally for anxiety. It's a really useful supplement to have around. also, if you don't really find there to be a benefit to drinking it just stay away from it. I also didn't find it particularly helpful but I kept drinking it anyway and got addicted to it and started getting health issues due to the poor sleep etc. Not worth it.
Just wanted to pop in and say that what you’ve described is exactly how I react to coffee/tea! I’ve just strayed away from coffee even though I love the smell and instead drink other beverages, like chicory root powder w/milk (it’s popular in Romania, my home country, but I haven’t heard anyone in the West talk abt it) which has the similar bitter taste and color of coffee, minus the caffeine. I get my energy from going on quick walks instead or doing a little easy morning workout
@@anelenav I love taking walks too! I should probably start doing them more often. Now that I think about it, I probabaly did not need coffee/ tea to get through my days in college since I was dancing every day to energize me!
What’s the best way to use caffeine if you have to pull an all nighter? It’s not ideal but students who work full time and go to school full time, I often am doing physics homework at 4am. I know it’s not good for me, but I’ve had weeks where I’m drinking two energy drinks plus coffee a day just to get everything done.
ok I probably shouldn't be promoting pulling all-nighters or tons of caffeine/ energy drinks/etc. but oh well I'm a student and doing the same thing so here are some things that work well for me: - the moment u feel that you have a dip in energy and just put ur head in ur hands GET CAFFEINE/SUGAR/ETC. (u get the gist) - drink lots of water in between your caffeine boosts to help your body process it better and cold water always helps to keep u up - if you REALLY need the wake up, put some gum (preferably minty gum) into ur water (as weird as it sounds) because it just wakes u up, just try it out - don't drink super warm tea/coffee if u find that relaxing (I know I find tea calming so) because it just makes you sleepy which never ends well - on that note, don't do ANYTHING that makes u somewhat relaxed for the same reason hope that helped, good luck! ✌
im basically immune to tea since I've been drinking it when i was a toddler. i can sleep at night regardless how much coffee I've drank or when I've drank it.
I don’t know why, but neither coffee nor tea help me in energy. I drink ginger tea when I have sore throat cuz it soothes my throat but it never helps me energize. When I needed to stay up late for my exams, I drank a cup of coffee but I fell asleep 30 minutes later. I experimented with the measurements of coffee but the results were the same. Tea also never worked on me. So I don’t know if this thing is helpful or just plain dysfunctional.
last night, i drank both lol. coffee then tea. i still fell asleep...but ofc i studied before sleeping lol. I think that drinking caffeine before sleep also helped me wake up from my sleep faster as well (clutch for naps)
I've watched your videos many times , and somehow I tought you were just one person. How did my brain not catch it ? I feel so dumb right now . I subscrived the channel even , and I didnt even looked at the name of it. Thats how much i like the content i guess. dammm
I have a question ? what is the science behind that that if I drink black coffee after a nap I feel more focused otherwise if I drink it without a nap it does not give me that deep focus however other effects are the same like fast metabolism.
haven't researched this at all so not really proper science but from what I can assume is: your brain is fresh and relaxed from that nap because it acted like a break and a recap, so your brain is somewhat "empty" of thought/worries. feeding the coffee, especially black coffee (considering it's quite strong) into a fresh brain allows it to think "there's coffee in the body meaning we must focus and only focus" as caffeine has a similar effect anyways but most likely less extreme. just my thoughts 🤷♀️
i used to drink two cups of coffee, about 600mL a day. It made me dizzy and sometimes vomit after doing this for about 2 weeks. but i still love the tast of coffee:D
I have discovered that eating caffeine rather than drinking it really helps reduce caffeine crash and makes me energized without giving me the jitters. I especially love Quantum Energy caffeine bars, but there are also caffeine chocolates, gummies, pills, etc. that have a similar effect.
I used to work in a cafe where after noon it got so boring that all I could do was eat the little chocolate covered espresso beans we had as a side to the coffee orders. Not good. Never had my heart racing like that. 😅 The reaction might be different if you pair it with more fat and protein.
What about different natural energy boosters? like beet root powder and some mushroom capsules? (not sure which specific mushrooms) I love my caffeine with a capital L, but I think I need to start seeing another stimulant....😢
@@ConsciousNexus47369 I understand why some people wouldn't like the taste or texture ( it IS like...mud). And the kick is like half that of coffee. Personally, I thought it was a deal since I don't like coffees taste at all.
I drink coffee when I need to work and milk tea when I am back home after all the work and my head is bursting so tea kinda relaxes me and tbh it does not even effect my sleep
It would sound logical to me if people who have a disruption in their cortisol awakening response (in other words: trouble waking up in the morning) would benefit from drinking coffee right in the morning to get that spike closer to a healthy level.
Whenever I drink iced coffee it really messes up my stomach and digestive system. I’ve stopped drinking it. Is this the caffeine in it or something else?
The goddam problem of pineapple on pizza, are not the calories of the pizza but the atrocity of putting pineapple on pizza. - from your friendly neighborhood italian.
I grew up working on cattle and bison ranches. Needless to say, cowboys don't consume a lot of Earl Grey. But as a narcoleptic, coffee just isn't as helpful to me as tea.
@@KoiAcademy 😭😭😆😆 laughing crying right now... whatever it's bedtime I'll just sleep. now .. I'll study in the morning.. wish me luck for tomorrow's xm😭
