Drawing diagrams is a very different type of communication than most of us are used to, but it allows us to think in new ways and encourages us to approach problems differently. The Open University's Simon Bell and Kevin Collins explain why diagrams are so useful, and discuss 5 different diagramming types.

If you listen to the start of the rich picture diagram, you'll hear why the farmer thought it was important: "Good drystone wall around his farm to stop erosion". The issue the farmer is referring to is therefore erosion. The drystone wall is a potential intervention to stop erosion.

amazing, informative, BUT doesn't explain / show the best / general way to break down an event into understandable parts... perhaps, it is just too complex, too many unknown factors, too intimidating to just even consider thinking about how everything all works together...
