UK / Europe - www.sailingcha...
I’d suggest with the mainsheet rope it’s worth ordering a sample in 8 and 10mm to see what you like before ordering the whole length - It makes a huge difference to your sailing experience.
The lengths stated are what we are using, when ordering I would suggest order 10% longer to be on the safe side!
Thanks for watching.

Thanks Joe. Really appreciate the continued content. I can imagine it's a strain after awhile to keep coming up with fresh ideas and content, but you're nailing it. I really would have liked to see just a touch more in this video as I think it would have fit right in (maybe on the next quick tips video) you can talk about how to run your mainsheet and traveler as one rope, or why you would want it as two. Also, I see your jib traveler lines are run through grommets in the trampoline, not everyone has the third grommet in the side. How we can get around that. I've also tied my jib traveler lines together at the ends so it's always easier to reach the leeward line if it's bunched up on the tramp. Could also talk about hoisting the main halyard and how you need to wrap it around the mast/shroud to prevent jib batton catching on the lines. I know all of these are topics that you've covered in previous videos, but this video seemed like a really great place to condense all of that information at once. It could also prove to be a great video about "tips for setting your boat up for racing" small things to do to improve vs. how your boat came from the factory or previous owner. Thanks again for all the content!

Not any part of the rigging but I was hoping you would have covered the righting rope you use, specifically the length and diameter. I currently have the bungee righting rope that wraps around the 4 posts but find it works best with 2 people. I want to get the same set up that you use which would also work better for the righting bag system you previously covered. As a slight variation, I'm thinking that a small carabiner at the end of the purchase system could clip on to a loop in the righting rope that is close to the upper hull (when capsized)? Great instructional video here. This will save people a lot of guesswork.

The righting rope will be addressed in today's Quick tips video at 1730 greek time.

Sorry, really the last one...and tramp maintenance. The original 1981 tramp is intact, but feels very stiff (almost brittle) vs the 1976 H14 I'd bought. Thanks Joe. You da man! 👍😎

Other than regular washing and using a boat cover , getting it serviced by a sailmaker I don't have much more to suggest - once the material has 'gone' It's gone. If it's an 18 classic that you have I might have one here you can have when you come out. I'll have a look.

And sorry for flooding the comments today, just one last, can you make a sail maintenance video? I've got decals peeling off, stitching that's failing, tells that are down to stubs and a couple cracked ends on the battons that the previous owner taped. Could also use advice on storage, rolling them up, and keeping the jib furler from unfurling.

Joe, don't forget that dyneema can also be used for standing rigging when using the heat set variety

Murray’s Marine sells Dyneema tramp lacing for the 16 for, like, $35. Really thin and slick. Nice when sliding across the tramp.

Joe, can you make a team 18 shirt? I can tell the difference now by looking for the machete shaped hulls. 😉 Would like it to say Joyrider TV too, cause I've been promoting your channel. 👍 Would be happy to attach a "Joyrider TV" decal to my sails!!

6:36 Hi Joe, Love the videos, thankyou for making them imo the best resource on the internet for beginner catamaran hopefuls like myself. Do you colour code your ropes?
@JoyriderTV
@JoyriderTV 10 месяцев назад
I'd really like to, but unfortunately, I have to use what ever colours have been supplied. I at least try to make them all different.

Thanks for a great channel! Been rigging spinnaker to an old wooden Tornado, and your videos have been of great help! What would the rope lengths be for A Tornado?
@JoyriderTV
@JoyriderTV 4 года назад
I'll get on to that - I'll have to take the ropes off the boat to measure. Cheers

I suppose there is not much difference though, as the boats are not very different in size..

Great! But what about the spinnaker retrieval line? Do you use the same as the halyard all the way up or do you extend with something smaller for the retrieval end?
@JoyriderTV

The end of the spinnaker halyard becomes the retrieval.

Might want to find a better source for ropes in the USA. The amazon likes work but the sellers description tell you nothing on how much rope you are getting. I messaged the sell and heard nothing back whatsoever. Disappointing to say the least. As for your videos, they are awesome. Keep up the good work.

Hi Joe... Curious about main sheet and jib sheet blocks... When to know they need replacing and how to maintain them so that they don't wear down and break while sailing... This is kind of ropes related I think... Thanks!
