Join us on our Helsinki adventure as we uncover the hidden gems and highlights of Finland's vibrant capital city. Known for its exceptional design scene, we delve into Helsinki's creative side with a couple of recommendations made by a local designer.
First up, we're irresistibly drawn to a renowned donut shop that not only boasts amazing donuts but also caters to vegans. Next, we make our way to the Design Museum, where we discover the fascinating world of Finnish industrial arts. From iconic designs to an exhibit on the globally popular Angry Birds game, this museum showcases thoughtfully crafted creations.
With the Design Museum leaving a lasting impression, we recommend a visit to their exceptional gift store. They offer unique finds, such as a cleverly designed foldable shopping bag that fits conveniently into a pocket. We also recommend exploring the adjacent Museum of Finnish Architecture, which takes us on a journey through the country's architectural evolution -- this museum offers a fascinating insight into Finland's architectural heritage.
We step off of the traditional tourist path and head to a local gin distillery. Finland's gin culture is thriving. We indulge in some of their crafted spirits and cocktails. For a memorable dining experience, we visit Boon Nam, a modern Thai restaurant highlighted in the Michelin guide. The tantalizing aromas alone will entice you as you enter. Boon Nam delighted our taste buds with dishes like Iberico secret of five-spice pork, crispy enoki mushroom salad, chili jam sweetheart cabbage, and coconut cheesecake.
Helsinki's compact and walkable ways allowed us to stroll its wide, inviting sidewalks, side by side. The city's vibrant and green ambiance exudes contagious happiness, leaving us eager to return and explore more of its wonders.
Don't miss this lively exploration of Helsinki's design, gastronomy, and cultural offerings. Join us on this journey and immerse yourself in the enchanting spirit of Finland's capital city.

Next time you should visit Helsinki's Suomenlinna Sea Fortress. You can get there in 15 minutes by a HSL ferry from Kauppatori, close to the Senate Square. If I remember correctly, it is one of the largest sea fortresses in the whole world and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It represents the pinnacle of military architecture of that time. The Naval Academy is also located there. I hope you enjoyed your stay here in Finland 😊

You should visit the rest of Finland, too, Helsinki is not a typical Finnish City. It is like London and New York, there are living a lot of people from all around the world. If you went outside of Helsinki you´d be more surprised by the beauty of Finnish nature and people. IMHO. 😎

@@butterflies655 Perhaps because Helsinki represents everything most finns hate. It's nervous, cramped, expensive and hostile towards cars. The "prison hotel" is my personal favourite, a cool place! Perhaps a surprising fact about the Finnish prison system: around 1/3 of Finnish prisons are so called open prisons, where prisoners are locked up only at night, during the day they can work and study outside the facility, basically like everybody else. The NBC Newa on Finnish open prisons: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-35QL080lkAw.html

Lovely video of my home town! ps. I'm working on a street photography book on Helsinki, and I'm looking for little written pieces to accompany the photos - this is a long shot but would you like to write something for the book? Length of the text is up to you, I'm just looking for all kinds of perspectives and outlooks on Helsinki. Topic is also up to you, I just want something that the writer sees as a very Helsinki thing/place/moment/character/anecdote. If you want to, that's awesome but if you don't, no hard feelings. Either way I'm really happy you enjoyed your stay here!

The thing to know about VR systems is that VR setup is either room scale where you actually walk around or kind of teleport navigation where you point towards next teleport position and press some button to teleport directly to the new position then look around there. If you haven't been instructed how the system works, you have to just try and figure out how the system is supposed to work. One quick test is to crouch and check if the viewport changes in vertical position. If the vertical camera position in 3D scene follows your head, it's probably room scale tracking but you may be limited by the wire length.
