Reminds me of sitting around shooting the breeze with my old Navy buddies on a slow watch and just talking about home, food, guns, hunting, fishing, you name it. Very enjoyable after a day at work.

Good morning Fred, Hahaha :) that's exactly how I wanted you to feel Fred like you were sitting down at my kitchen table around the old schoolhouse stove shooting the breeze about anything and everything. That's exactly how it's done when you have guests at the cabin there's no TV little bit of radio so you just sit around and talk about fishing and hunting and everything that went on during the day. I hope you felt like you we're at home around the table my friend. I hope you and your family are having a great week! Tom

My dad grew up dairy farming and also raised pigs and butchered many animals including game animals. His favorite knife was a small buckknife. I like these videos where you share your hunting experience for the day. The experience of sitting on a stand and getting cold to the bone is all a part of deer hunting. There is a lot to be said for that peace and quiet. Keep the videos coming

Good morning Norman, Hahahaha :) when you hunt in the state of Maine getting cold to the Bone is Surely part of deer hunting. You're absolutely right small buck knife does most of the work when you're butchering meat. I hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas! Tom

Hi Tom, I sure can relate to a few of the things you talked about. Sitting in a deer stand for many hours and freezing, sitting many hours and not seeing anything, getting back to the cabin feels so good after a day outside. One final thing and that is sleeping at the cabin. I love sleeping at my cabin for the same reasons you do. I'm using my new cabin more than I did my old one and love it. I leave my cameras out all year in various locations because I love getting pictures of the wildlife. I hope you and you and your family have a very Merry Christmas

Good morning Joe, you got that right Joe a good night sleep at the cabin sure does feel good. I'm with you I love getting the pictures off my game cameras. I just started putting game cameras out last December. I am amazed at how much Wildlife comes by in the course of a day. I know it's all out there but you usually don't get a chance to see it. We have what's called a Fisher and I've never seen one outside of the game cameras. I love hearing about about your cabin Joe. I never had a cabin until this one. I used to stay in a tent all over the state of Maine for the last 40 years I also had that donkey wagon you see in my videos. The cabin is much more comfortable LOL. If we don't speak again before Christmas I hope you and your family have a very happy Christmas. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Tom

You have the lighting in your cabin set really well now Tom. Looks great. Yes, coming here to your channel is about like visiting a pal around the kitchen table. Always great content and that's how friends behave. Up there where you are hunting you don't seem to have any hunting pressure from other hunters pushing or even moving deer around the area. That is good and bad is some ways. It often makes it a bit tougher to figure out the movements of the bucks on their own times and routes. Often where I hunt, hunting pressure is something you use to plan bushwhack tactics of deer movement. It can work for you and against you as well. But the most fun way to harvest a buck is to find one on his own movement pattern and surprise him for the last time.
@EastGrandWoodsman
@EastGrandWoodsman 3 года назад
Good morning Wayne, that's great Wayne that's exactly how I want you to feel like an old pal sitting around the kitchen table swapping hunting stories. I know exactly what you mean about hunting pressure. In Southern Maine where are used to hunt. I would hunt the hunters. I wanted to know where they parked and I wanted to know how they entered the woods. I spent some Saturdays scouting the hunters more than hunting for deer. Then I built tree stands and ground blinds to plug the back doors where I knew the deer would run out LOL. Around the cabin the hunting pressure is very low and that's the kind of deer hunting that I really enjoy. It is a harder hunt because it is me the buck and my rifle. But that is why I moved all of my hunting activities northern Maine I have a 150 square miles to choose from. Primarily hunt 30 square miles around my cabin. This will take the rest of my life time to figure out but I wouldn't have it any other way. I hope that you are having a very merry Christmas you and your family! Thank you for stopping by the cabin shooting the breeze around the wood stove with me. Tom

Good afternoon Rick, Hahahaha :) well it looks like you're all set for the snowstorm LOL I'm the same way I have several buck knives some of them 30 plus years old. My favorite buck knife is a 110 that my wife bought me for for my birthday the first year we was married. I still have it the blade is shorter now from sharpening but it's still a very good knife. You're welcome I was wondering if people would like to come into the cabin get in out of the cold with me around the old wood stove. You've got a lot more snow than we've got but I'll bet you a week catch up. Lol I finally have got my tractor tire back from the shop so I am headed back to the cabin on Monday to put it on my tractor. Before we get any more snow. Then I'd have to bring it into the cabin on a snowmobile. A buddy of mine has let me know that there are three trees across the driveway from the last storm so the last thing I need to do did you was a snowmobile to get that tire up to the Tractor. I hope you and your family are having a great week! Tom

Good morning Arielle, I couldn't agree with you more Arielle. I love a good bowl of chowder at the cabin it's something that I make quite often. Because the ingredients are so simple and it's a one pot meal. I mostly maked in the winter months because I make a big part and I can set it on the floor by the back door and it will not spoil. I love the crackling fire out of that old schoolhouse stove. I burn softwood that's why it crackles so much it's the sap inside of the softwood making all the racket. :) I hope you have a very merry Christmas! :) Tom

In January I'm going to work on a video of making homemade chili and biscuits out at that's the lean-to. I'm also going to make a pie you might be interested in all of that LOL. I'm really looking forward to a good chili over the campfire. Thank you the cabin is very homey especially once you get that wood stove fire up. Here in Ohio where I live and in Pa. where I've deer hunted all of my hunting life, you can't get too many miles from a road, log road or well established trail. Even in the Allegheny National Forest in Pa. or the Wayne National Forest in southern Ohio, that's fairly true. So I don't often get too far from the truck or camp while deer hunting. So I've never had to spend the night out in the woods in an emergency situation. I've long ago cut my hunting necessities down to just the minimal essentials. My knife, folding compass, drag rope, ink pen for filling out my deer tag, hard candy, a few extra shells of ammo and small flashlight. Paper towels for wipes or blood cleaning, etc. Most of my hunting is by still hunting and setting when a good likely spot is found. Rarely on a tree stand. It is getting tougher to go farther now that my knee is getting bad, so I have for the past 6 years or so began carrying a folding stool where I can just sit down and rest anywhere, and my walking stick. It's still a load to carry, but I've killed many deer while I've stopped to rest.
@EastGrandWoodsman
@EastGrandWoodsman 3 года назад
Good morning Wayne, that's probably the best way to hunt Wayne with a little stool and sit just about anywhere. A lot of big bucks have been taken down by slipping up when someone is sitting on a stool. I have a stool my myself my friend. I build little stools and I put them out in the woods with my 4-wheeler and when they're not in use I hang them up in trees. Some of these tools have been out there for 10 years plus around my cabin. This year I made up a small stool that I can hang on my shoulder so that I can do the same thing that you do LOL set just about anywhere. :) I hope you're having a Merry Christmas my friend! Tom

Tom! I myself enjoy this type content. Telling about your hunt and day in the woods goes well for your style channel. I am sure all the viewers could feel at home with your narrative! I am a seafood fan for sure and that chowder sound mighty good! How old is your beagle dog and is he a part of your rabbit pack? One other question is what type of wireless provider do you use in your remote cabin? No hurry on any answer on that. We had one of those propane gridges on a houseboat camp and that thing was thebest thing! A barge smacked our boat and we lost it when it sank. I would get another even for putting on my patio at home.. I am rambling now,so have a great week !

Good afternoon Richard, Hahahaha I'm with you on that chowder good old chowder hits the spot on a cold Winter's hunt. My beagle is 9 years old she's a female and her name is Annie. I'll start bringing her into the pictures a little bit more but she's the queen of the cabin. I had major surgery done to my legs 9yr ago. My family thought that I needed a beagle puppy while I was recuperating. I spent six months sitting in a chair looking out the window. Drove me absolutely nuts but I was thankful that my family got me that little beagle. She sat in my lap for 6 months LOL. She's nine years old now and she still thinks she has to sleep in my lap. I never trained this beagle to chase rabbits she is a camp dog through and through. My wireless connection to the internet from the cabin is u.s. cellular. Most of the time I get 4 bars on the cell phone so it's a pretty reliable connection. That's okay if you ramble. Lol what a bummer your house boat sank. Hope you're having a great week my friend! Tom

@@EastGrandWoodsman Thx for giving the background on Annie! My brother went through having Colin cancer and while he was in the hospital he had a picyure of his dog right beside his bed and it gave him great comfort. Animals are quite comforting for sure. I miss the old houseboat for sure. My brother and I had built one before that one. Some low lifes came down the river and set fire to several camps for what reason we never knew. Good Morning Tom ☕ I see you have signs on the wall. Have you ever done a video of what your signs say and some of your background of the wall of your cabin? I'm interested in what all you have there in the signs and how you came about putting them up on the cabin wall. I'd like to know Why I'm not getting notifications that you uploaded a video or are going live. I have the Bell Ringing Chosen and last 3 videos of yours, I just happened to see them suggested when I was watching other videos that I'm subscribed to. I love the background you have to use in your cabin for Videos. Hopefully I can figure out what is up with not getting notifications! Ah, Knives.... They ain't like they used to be! I have a Long Flat Wood stove Poker that I been looking at and thinking about maybe getting a 5gallon bucket or 2 of big Rock Coal and making a big ole fire and heating that poker up and pounding the Hebegebes out of it and make it into a nice Strong Knife 🔪🗡️ that would be able to be used for just about anything, fileting Fish, cutting up deer, squirrels, rabbits and such. Experts..,.Hum.....ya know, I was called a "Professional" by some, I told them all "Ain't No Professional in me, I just do it the way I was taught by my Momma and Daddy and Bother and I'm always learning something new so I ain't No Professional and never expect myself to be 1 for all always be looking to learn more!" Ah, Fish Chowder. I picked up some Monk Fish, Haddock, clams, Dungeness crab clusters and I have Atlantic Puffers vacuum packed that the wife and I caught in ocean City Maryland. I make "Fish Soup" which is basically Fish Chowder but no milk/cream in it, I toss in Tomato sauce and paste to mine. Really Enjoy your videos! Your not rambling, you are just like you say, talking to Friends! If you are interested, check out Daniel's video last night at "Arms Family Homestead" He was doing a video last night of interacting with others and how he has become friends with a lot of different people that he talks with almost daily. Something to keep in mind of what you and Daniel are saying in your video this morning and Daniel's last night. Thanks for your Support and your Videos and Sharing your Way of Life up there in Maine! Keep up the Great Videos and I'll be watching with the ☕ in Hand. Now I gotta finish my ☕ and get my butt outside in the cold, kick the Snowblower a few times to get it Running and get ready for this Blizzard that we are supposed to get today. ☕ Stay Warm and Toasty by the 🔥

hi tom that is not right eating all that fish chowder put a spoon full up to the camera no deer this year the loggers cut down so much i gave up. i couldn't find where the deer was coming to feed so i am looking at new ground closer to home for next year. you are right a small knife is really all that is needed. a medium fixed blade hanging off your belt are ok but is for mostly show.
@EastGrandWoodsman
@EastGrandWoodsman 3 года назад
Good afternoon Enos, Hahahaha :) I was thinking about after I got home and was looking at that video I never did show you the chowder. It was all so good. :) I have had that happen to me before the loggers come through right around hunting season and really cause havoc in my hunting grounds. This year one of the food plots of the abandoned apple orchards that I've been hunting. New owners came in and bulldozed about a hundred acres. I didn't hunt the actual abandon apple orchard but I did hunt the feeder trails that led to the old abandoned apple orchard. So that really changed the way the deer acted in that particular area. So I'm doing the same thing looking for a different place to put that old tree stand that I have on that feeder trail. I hope you having a great week good luck in scouting out a new spot. Tom

Now, I have a question for you. As we all want to shoot a big buck, are you averse to taking a doe for the meat? Our state does want us to harvest does from the herds for better buck to doe ratios. Some states regulate the numbers of does that can be taken in a given year. I don't know about Maine. If there is not an over abundance of deer in your area I understand letting all the does walk. I have often went without a deer simply because I chose not to harvest a doe. But, I am not against taking one. They're excellent table fare as well. I'm still waiting for you big buck tale, for this year. Good Luck Tom.
@EastGrandWoodsman
@EastGrandWoodsman 3 года назад
Good evening Wayne, no I'm never against taking a doe. I have shot many Doe's over the years. I don't anymore but it's just because I'm an older Hunter now and I really enjoy putting my tag on a big buck. Even if I don't get one every year it's the hunt that matters to me. I turned down a five point buck opening week of deer season. Towards the end of deer season that 5 point Buck was starting to look pretty good. Lol :) In northern bean around the cabin it is bucks only. The reason for this is deer per square mile. There are lots of deer but lots of square miles. Doe's make very good table meat. I hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas! Tom

Good morning Ben, yes I can and I do I put plastic jugs outside on my back deck to freeze up then I can bring it into the cabin. November's a little tricky for freezing water at the cabin the nights are cold and sometimes cold and after get it Frozen. By December I can definitely freeze water and it helps me keep my cooler cold. But mostly for Refrigeration in the winter I right now I have a cooler out back of the cabin in the shade that's half full of water. So that is frozen all winter and makes a great place to store my meat and fresh fish that I bring back from fishing. I hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas! Tom

I enjoy your videos, Tom. I have noticed lately that you seem to throw a lot of shade on other content creators in the Bush craft community on RU-vid. I think that i understand where you're coming from, but it can be a little off-putting. I am not a content creator myself, just a casual observer and lifelong lover of the outdoors. Some of those channels are just chasing clout and looking to get views and attract sponsors. Hey, if that's their formula - c'est la vie. Just focus on keep putting out YOUR content based on your formula. All that gear wouldn't be around if there wasn't a demand for it. I understand that a sensible woodsman is resourceful and methodical with their gear and dont need all that and shiny stuff.
