Today I get SOOO mad because the Halo overlays for the onboard camera are not in sync with the image!! The overlay shows the drivers braking, accelerating or even changing gear before the image and sound do so... and as a sim racer it's VERY VERY upsetting... I know that the overlay data sent from the car are just numbers, while the video feed is much more expensive in terms of data bandwidth, hence why it's delivered later. But come on!! Buffer half a second of telemetry and make that shit work properly!!!

I'm a little surprised you're still promoting NordVPN given their recent issues with being hacked and user accounts being compromised. Note: I did avail myself of this offer prior to the hack but I'm now looking for another provider, not so much because of the hack, but because of the way the company handled the fallout.

@@harchitb By pitting as soon as possible after the other car does, so as not to allow him, on fresh tyres, to set faster times than you, on worn tyres, thus allowing him to emerge ahead once your stop has been made. It doesn't *always* work this way, but does often enough to have a term named for it, and it's one Ferrari have been remarkably poor at recognising in recent races/years.

@@harchitb Depends a bit on the situation. If you're more than 2 seconds ahead, pitting immediately should do the trick. If he was right on your heels, you could try to pit before him, or stretch the tires out if the other guy pits too early. Like I said, it depends a lot. The only objectively wrong thing to do is to not respond to it at all, pit 3 laps later, and then come out way behind.

I really preferred the laps counting down instead of up. It's much more useful to know how many laps you have left instead how many are done. Yes, you can count it both ways, but still the counting down was more convenient.
@Reydriel
@Reydriel 4 года назад
It might be more useful for the drivers, but it's not at all convenient for spectators. For us, knowing how many laps are left isn't really important until the last few laps, at which point we can easily calculate it ourselves. That's the only real advantage of counting-down I can think of, while everything else would be much more suited to counting-up.

To me, one of the annoying things with the current graphics is that when they expand the names of the currently shown battle in the "tower", that hides the time gaps (due to font size issues I guess). Usually, this is where you really want those gaps, and not super sized driver names.

It always amazes me how recent tv graphics are for any sport and how primitive they were as recently as the 90s. And F1 seems to have kinda lagged behind most from what I've gleaned from this video probably from lack of effort more than technological limitations though. I'm fairly sure NASCAR had driver pictures and driver intervals on a scrolling screen even before I started watching around 2000 along with driver grids that displayed more than 2 drivers at a time. It's surprising how much progress has been made in just the last 20 years. I can't imagine what they will do in the next 5 years let alone another 20.

In my opinion, MotoGP has the best TV graphics BY FAR : -A lot of useful information and not intrusive (Liberty might have copied them, like when showing drivers faces on the timing column in a battle) -Very smart augmented reality graphics on on-board cam (just like with the halo, but 100 times better) -Small details that changes everything, like the white bar that moves on the timing column when a rider crosses the line

As you said, we're quite lucky with the amount of information/graphics we have right now, though it's true that the latest additions (striking distance, tyre performance) are confusing. One thing I think could be improved is the use of the tower, in particular during quali. I like what they do in MotoGP, where you see if riders are improving on sector times and it makes it easier to follow multiple riders at one time.

In my opinion, a graphic set combining the 2015 smooth and elegant design, with some of the data shown by nowadays graphics would do. Of the current data, I would drop the predictions, maybe only leaving the pit stop predictor (or, as they call it in Ferrari, the Doom Predictor). I get that they're working with Amazon with some brand new graphics, but the tyre perfomance was just a bad idea (some drivers can do miracles with worn out tyres, while others will drop awfully with mildly worn tyres). And I would drop definitely the "Yeah, yeah" song they play when race is over. It's annoying beyond belief, especially if you're on headphones. _(I know it's not about graphics, but someone had to ask for it)_
