I mean he is right, but its kind of funny that most historians call it a "draw" when by definition it was clearly a Canada victory. Its as if I go to beat up my neighboor for W/E reason and he punch me KO and I just go back to my house with tail between my leg and still call it a draw. America history is young so yeah I think its a cool historic fact that should be though and a small pride for Canadians. Americans still pride themself with independance and tea party, we dont have a celebration for this victory but I think we deserve to have it as a pride/cool fact
@sphjinx1448
@sphjinx1448 5 месяцев назад
@@tonytouchz757Makes sense. I do consider it a draw, but I don’t deny that the United States failed to invade Canada. We certainly did fail pretty pathetically. And honestly, if Britain had redirected more forces to fighting in the war, we probably would’ve actually lost. It’s called a draw because the war ended without any gains on either side. Britain burned down the White House, but that was in response to some government building’s we burned in Canada. All things considered, I don’t believe anyone truly won or lost due to that. Britain was, at the time, engaged in the Napoleonic Wars back in Europe, and therefore could not risk to divert so many men and supplies to a spin-off war like the War of 1812. Bigger fish to fry, and all that. So without any real gains or even losses, peace was signed between the two sides. The only real loss could be seen as Britain agreeing to relinquish claims to the northwest territory. And there’s people in the United States who get prideful over that war too, largely because of the Battle of New Orleans, where future President Andrew Jackson led America to victory. But that’s a battle that should’ve never happened in the first place, considering peace had already been signed a bit before. It just took the news too long to reach both sides. Anyway, that’s my very brief history of the War of 1812. Many nuances exist, and it’d take me ages to explain each and every minute detail. But yeah, you can have pride over it. Your choice.
@tonytouchz757
@tonytouchz757 5 месяцев назад
@@sphjinx1448 I don’t pride over it, just states facts. It wasn’t a draw as it wasn’t a war, it was an invasion that failed, Canada won by pushing back the invasion. It isn’t really complicated and it’s hard to understand how anyone would belive it’s a draw when it wasn’t a war. (Even though they call it “war or 1812”, they have to give it a name but it wasn’t a failed invasion)

Not just Britain that loved beaver - all of Northern Europe, to the point where it became a continent wide extinction crisis, and that, in turn, drove a lot of the interest in settling/trading in Canada in the first place. That little area in Minnesota is Angle, MN (49º 23'N) which is the northernmost point of the contiguous United States. There is a small town (less than 5 square miles) known as Point Roberts, WA (48°59′05″N 123°04′05″W) near that set of islands in Washington State that ran into a unique issue during covid lockdowns in 2020. Canada had decided that they would shut down the border into their country as a safety issue. The residents of Point Roberts have to drive about 25 miles through Canada to get to the rest of the United States. The population is only a little over 1,000 residents. Prior to the lockdowns, many of Point Robert's residents did most of their shopping in Canada because there are not a lot of stores in the small town. If they needed medical care or other services, they would drive though Canada to get to the rest of the United States. When the border was shut down, they were effectively stranded and many of them had to live off whatever resources they had available in their homes. They ran into issues with the postal service and many other problems. There is a documentary about it somewhere on RU-vid if anyone is interested. I don't remember the name of the documentary, but I'd imagine searching anything about Point Roberts, WA and Covid challenges would probably find it. Might be an interesting video for Mr. Terry History to review. Technically, anything that has happened in the past is history, even if it is recent history like 2020. People tend to forget how recent events are also history. Beyond that, learning some history about Point Roberts itself might be kind of cool.

Two nations fighting over a small piece of land. For hundreds of years, that was a European sport. Remember when two sides fought over a bucket?

I love your video's especially the ones where you react to oversimplified (i ordered the plushie). Btw. The british gave us lots good inventions. But one is very important. Its the steam engine. Without that the steam locomotives never would been invented and the world be different place. So you can say the steam engine made the modern world

"wouldn't it be funny if we had fist fights in Congress"? Actually, according to the Oversimplified Civil War video, we did. One guy even broke a walking stick on another Congressman. I'd rather not have us return to that considering how gun happy the Republican party is.

Canada has roots in politeness dating as far back as 1812, where we even let the US think the war of 1812 ended in a draw.

They did have a huge first fight in the Senate on Amat 22 1856. Representative Brooks of South Carolina entered and proceeded to beat Senator Charles Sumner with a metal topped cane.

Not sure if this is covered: but there was serious though to moving the border further north (forgot to which parallel) but the city of Calgary (and others) would've gone to America, thus it didn't happen.

Its funny recently a witness called out senator Mullin from Oklahoma whos a trained MMA fighter and said any time any place on Twitter. When he got called out he said sure and Mullin got up to handle it and everyone lost their shit 🤣. I think we need to put a cage and mat in the center of the house and senate floor to let these people go at it. Its the only way we get people to tune into CSpan 🤣.
