Would be very interested to hear what didn;t work and what has been removed. We often see smart home channels talking about the latest newest thing, but then never hear about it again. Was it actually useful or did it never really work?
Good to have you back Alan - you were one of the YT's to get me into Home Assistance, which I've really enjoyed, watching your vids. Would love to see a video in of home setup! Looking forward to more vids from you dude. And congrates on your wedding & new puppy.
Welcome back. I had to change my whole home assistant setup to cater for caring for someone and the fact that it has a direct impact on home life is amazing.
Yea! My favourite home automation channel is back! Especially interested to hear about the power monitoring stuff. 450W is impressive for all the stuff you have!
I’ve only recently got into smart home stuff and your videos have been utterly indispensable. I really like your presentation style and it’s great to hear more videos are on the way.
Welcome back! Glad to see the update video and to see you are doing well. I think yes to all the suggestions, but I’m particularly interested in the Unifi kit and how it’s performed as I’m looking to do the same soon. Plus, I’d be interested to see your energy monitoring guide too.
Welcome back! I was watching your other video about Relays. I was wondering what's your view on this new relay - SONOFF ZBMINI-L2 ? It doesn't need neural! One to look into this & make video?
Hi! Any chance for a "Home Automation Controllers/System" video. I use unif, with phillips hue (+bridge) and I'm just about to extend to aqara for some Sensors- yes I want to use home assistant but just realised I need the aqara m2/3 HUB aswell. Silly oversight but I still think a video on all the necessary controllers for a complete smart Home would make for good content (and important content) and how to maximise potential without having 9 different controllers and/or hubs for such a complete smart home project. Thanks from Aust. for the videos
Thank god you have posted something. I know I'm just a stranger, but not seeing anything for so long I thought something bad had happened. I'm glad I'm wrong and it's that some GOOD things have happened and that you're just busy. Life is good and that's what counts. Meanwhile, I'll just wait until you post something new. Hope that leak gets fixed and I'd find a way of putting a leak detecting sensor in there - just, how would you change the batteries!?
Good to see you again. My two cents: Frigate vs. the new local cats. I can understand if your puppy took care of the cats, but secretly I'm hoping for something more creative. A combination. An automation: Frigate detects a cat, the puppy gets a treat and the sprinklers in the garden go at full blast? Something like that. (Please?)
Welcome Back, i was hoping to see you back, as i have some question for my setup of home assistant, I run it on a PI4 for starting and some testing but i want to go to my UNRAID. I want to use UNRAID is it good for HA ? if so... how should i set it up VM or Docker ? and any other insight or info before starting the setup?
I've certainly missed your videos Alan, but glad that you took time out. Also super glad and looking forward to hearing about the transition into the new place. What worked, what didn't. There are so many ways these days.
Congrats on getting married and getting your pet dog. These changes can certainly take you away from the RU-vid videos and I will still look forward to seeing ewhat you discover changing automations to be pet friendly!
Welcome back! Marriage is one of the most important things in life. The automation stuff comes second. Take your time for the new videos. Anyway, we are here and we are waiting for them!
Local controlled ! Yes i like ! :) Nerd yes I like! A request: yes i have one. What switches do i use for a smart home? I'm thinking right now I want matter/thread switches so I can directly use home assistant to link them to output devices without a system in between. But I also want those switches to be wired, I also want them to be compatible with future switches. I don't want to replace wires if there will be a better switch out there. I also want like half of my switches to have 4 buttons or more. I want a few to have a dimming option. I also don't want them to use wifi so I dont overload my router. Where the hell do I start. What do you recommend?
Would love to get a guide on the Nest Hub Mini replacement, went down a rabbit hole when Richard Campbell mentioned it on Windows Weekly. Got them fairly cheaply from CEX and now just need to get it up and running with those custom pcb
The automated dog treat dispenser is great.... until the dog catches on how it works and starts ordering stuff just to have a delivery person ring the door bell.
How are you dealing with sensing presence now when you have a puppy? Is he... or she... turning lights by running / walking around... how are you dealing with this ;-)?
Great you are back Alan, you have a great manner of presenting - still subbed and waiting for videos to drop in your own time. Bet that the puppy keeps you busy.🐕
Welcome back! Enjoy your videos😊 We all have very specific needs at times. In my case, I would love to have a zigbee sensor that tells me water level in a well that collects rainwater. No off the shelf products for this use case. How do I get started?
I don't know about ZigBee. But I've seen people use ESP devices with an ultrasonic distance sensor mounted to the top of the well or container. This can then measure the distance to the top of the liquid and you can infer the level from that
As some who also has a furry best friend, It would be cool to see how you solve some of the challenges having a dog brings to the smart home. Welcome back :)
Omggg! These are all of the things I’m struggling with in my own smart home. I can’t wait for your upcoming videos. The reality and follow up on new products is so important. Looking forward to it. Hope you’re doing well.
I am in the process of rebuilding my home assistant. 1. If I pair bulbs in mqtt can I still use Blueprints. 2 setting up frigette to use Poe cameras through Matt. 3 port forwarding or similar so I can see the camera recording when not at home. 4. Randomising lights options Thanks for the great videos
First off..... Congratulations!!!! You and your partner look quite happy. I'm really glad you're back. You have been instrumental in helping me with my smart home discussions and teaching me a lot of the way. Thanks so much and welcome back.
Good to see you back again. I'd love a tour of your smart home. We recently got a puppy. He's a mad Spaniel who's always on the go. I love the automatic treat dispenser you have. Such a good idea to distract the dog when the doorbell rings. Have you got a link to the product? How many treats does it take to keep your dog distracted? Our Spaniel would just hoover up any treats, then go back to barking at the door. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing more about your smart home journey, and I hope you get the roof sorted 😊.
GREAT to see you back and I cant wait to see the new content! The nest home mini brains replacement sounds awesome...Ive got some atom echo's dotted around the house running 'hello skywalker' at the moment...but I still rely on the G Home products for basics like timers etc
So glad to see you're back, and completely understand life taking precedence. One topic I'd love to see you address is how should we approach selling a house where we have set up a lot of our own DIY automations.
Welcome back and Congratulations! Good to hear all is well. It looks like another year of accelerated HA development and the community needs all the best content creators it can get, and I consider you to be one of best! Thank you for all the great content and I will be watching.
Just bought my first house which needs major renovations and part of the renovation is having it as smart as possible including moving to home assistant. Really interested in how you do all the power monitoring
I would love to see a video on a whole house power monitoring. I’m moving into my (UK) flat in the next few months and I’m struggling to figure out what the best solution is to monitor everything in one go.
I would really love to see what adjustments you have made around the puppy. It seems all smart home channels center around pet-free homes, so many ideas don't work in my own, with several dogs and cats in the way. I'd also love a tour in general.
Thanks for all your content. Really appreciate and value the way you communicate and show ways to better automate the home. I will be on a quest to build my perfect smart home in about a year, so I’ll be sure to use your videos as a guide
Welcome back - love the personal pics, and the update - you have been missed. I would love a smart home tour, and I am particularly interested in lessons learned from some of the less than ideal choices that were made (I learn all to often from my own mistakes so any time I can learn from someone else's...).
