Meet Bradford Merrill Phillips, Senior, a Hopi Indian artist from the Hopi village of Oraibi. His village has been the longest continuously inhabited settlement in the United States. since its founding, which is estimated to have been around 1100 CE.
This small village holds to their traditional way of living and holds ceremonial rain dances to bring rain to this desert region. Bradford explains the art pieces he’s creating, the meaning of the colors and symbols, and the history behind them. This is a fascinating up-close interview with a gifted artist from the Second Mesa. We had the privilege of meeting him on our trip to the region in 2018 and wanted to share his story with you.
