Hello Beaders + Crafters!
In this video, you will learn how to knot a strand of beads using knotting tweezers and nylon or silk cording. You will also learn how to finish off your piece with clamshell bead tips and a clasp. I will be showing you how to do this method using 5~6mm freshwater pearls and size 3 Griffin Silk cord.
Materials needed for this project are:
15 inches or More of Beads
2 Clamshell Bead Tips (4mm)
Clasp of Choice (may or may not need jump rings for attaching)
Packet of Nylon or Silk Griffin Cord (size will depend on your beads, see video to figure out sizing) Typically nylon is used for knotting glass and some semiprecious, while silk is used on pearls.
Knotting Tweezers
Hypo Cement or Similar Glue
Scissors or Cutters
Round Nose Pliers
Chain Nose Pliers
Beading Mat or Towel to keep beads from rolling around as you work
All of these materials can be found in our shop in Carrboro, North Carolina. Otherwise, some are listed on our website at www.fireflycarrboro.com
Happy Beading!!

Easiest ever instructions to see and understand. Thanks for repeating the process over & over till it implants in my brain. Especially helpful for those of us who are visual learners!

That trick of using the tweezers to get the knot close-- that’s exactly what I needed to see. Thank you so much!!!! I’ve been so frustrated trying to do this the hard way :)

Excellently done. I am a retired teacher and the instruction on this video was superior in clarity and step by step directions.

Thank you so much for making this tutorial. I really appreciate how easy it was to follow. I no longer have issues with knots now. I have already tried this technique and it works great!!! Thanks again 😁

Thank you! I was struggling with the finish end and your tutorial was perfect! I can see where the double overhand would make a big difference. I am using braided fishing line, so it it will be interesting to see how many knots I may have to make to keep it from sliding through the hole. Practice, practice, practice!

sometimes you can thread on a tiny seed bead before you create a knot, if the hole of the clamshell bead tip is bigger than your knot. Happy Beading!

Liked this video. Your teaching was easy to follow and your camera angles were excellent for close up viewing as you were teaching this type of pearl knotting. Do you have a video showing pearl double knotting? I would love learning that also. I saved this video to my privaye Playlist for viewing several times later too. Thanks 😊.

Why did you not do an knot at the last bead that is against the clamshell

Is there no danger that the clamshell end will open? You explained everything beautifully but for this question

Yes, if it gets tugged our pulled too hard, the tail from the clamshell can come out. There are other clamshells on the market that are designed to avoid this. Instead of a tail, they basically have two rings that you can slip a jump ring though.

I watched and this was fantastic, but I'm also looking for using clamshells with wire. Do you also show how to end using wire? I struggle with this terribly.

I don’t have a video for this method, as I don’t typically use these bead tips when I’m crimping, but I have done it before during certain jewelry repairs and I’ll see if I can make a video on the method. I know others have asked me the same question. Stay tuned 😊

Can I use clamshell clasp for wire?
@fireflycarrboro
@fireflycarrboro 2 года назад
You can use it with cable wire and a crimp, although I don't always recommend that as the wire can slide out through the crimp bead and then out of the clamshell. However, I have seen jewelry finished that way.

Excellent video. What do you do when the bead tip breaks upon completion? I’ve had that happen a few times. I finish the necklace and close the tip after attaching a jump ring ans it breaks! Then i am just left with a round part over the knot and no attachment! Can you recommend a strong quality bead tip? Thanks
