Every razer mic I have ever used is the most sensitive thing ever as well - I could hear things I couldn't with my own ears and with others the sound from the headphones can be heard in the mic
@@aceofskulls2407 can confirm , I had a razer kraken headset and my friends were able to hear my game sound I had to lower my volume and they’re voices
want a good mic on a gaming headset. edifier g4 te. been using it for my streams. its amazing, it doesnt sound like a typical gaming headset where its so sharp/walkie-talkie ish, i was surprise, given the price
⚠️To all that come to this video after a year: The Barracuda X now has Bluetooth. Which means it is now compatible with iOS (Apple devices) That means this headset is compatible with literally anything! (They added it a while after the headset came out so now in the 2022 version and later the Bluetooth works)
I bought the pre-bluetooth version. I ended up returning it on warranty, and have now ended up with two of the bluetooth version. The new ones have AWFUL sound integrity. The bitrate drops to robotic levels at least once every ten minutes. The old headset never did this at all, and both of the new ones do.
@@JayEnfieldro which should i buy then With Bluetooth or without? I want to ps5 for gaming Edit: It doesn't matter whether it's wired, wireless or any other brand, I want you to recommend a headset that is very good for me according to the game and goes up to this price
So, for all users of this headset, I DESPERATELY REQUEST HELP. I have the updated bluetooth-available version. See, the *_only_* reason why I purchased this is because I primarily use a Grado GW100x. I stubbornly refused to use anything else (it just sounds so f*ing good) but I eventually began to feel bad with all my online friends telling me how terrible the microphone was. Hey I love it enough not to care and I even bought a 2nd set. Like I said, I only bought this because I began to feel bad for said friends thinking I sound like a buggy ATM machine. My friends are SO MUCH HAPPIER now. THEY LOVE IT. They say I sound HELLA CRISP. Ok, so here''re the "BUT(s)". I *_hate_* this headset. I was on a budget and my friends are why I purchased this to begin with so, it's too late to refund now. Someone save me please. The #1 most bizarre problem I face is: I can *_only_* be heard via bluetooth connection. When connected via 2.4ghz, "testing" the mic works perfectly, but once I attempt any actual conversation with another human being, the mic just refuses to work. With all the identical settings, friends say the bluetooth sounds amazing. However I purchased this for stability and connectivity reasons as well. I can't even walk out to grab a beer without the headset not only disconnecting but just plain *_turning itself off._* At least my "crappy" GW100x made me sound like a robot and maybe had patchy connectivity among other things I received a ton of complaints about, but AT LEAST IT STAYED CONNECTED. I DON'T UNDERSTAND. The Barracuda X instantly turns itself off the very INSTANT I walk out of bluetooth range, AND DOESN'T EVEN TELL ME SO. Then I walk back and I crack open a beer expecting to enjoy myself then realise what's happened 30 seconds later. Imagine how f*ing annoying this was *_before_* I figured this out. I'm at least 90% sure it's an authentic set because I mean it sounds great, I sound great, and it works with Razer software. God, why tho, I mean, okay, so let me accept that I'll never be heard on anything other than Bluetooth. My friends love it and that's why I bought it. If I want the better audio quality of 2.4ghz, ANOTHER mysterious problem arises. I can LITERALLY only watch RU-vid videos HALF A SECOND AT A TIME. I click. It plays. Then pauses. ICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSESICLICKITPLAYSITPAUSES (etc) RU-vid videos only function as expected when I disconnect from either Bluetooth or 2.4. Doesn't this headset have a feature literally called SMARTSWITCH? My Grado seems confused. I can be listening to it and the moment I receive a call on my phone, it transitions flawlessly. And it doesn't claim to have "SMART"switch. Let's not even mention that this headset apparently comes with 7.1 surround sound. It is annoying enough that I apparently need to register in order to activate this function. But wait, THERE'S MORE. After registration the software demands an activation code. WHAT ACTIVATION CODE??? Maybe I just don't read good but I see no activation code available in the manual, I didn't receive one via the email I registered with, AND YES i CHECKED MY SPAM FOLDER. WHY DOES THIS MATTER? BECAUSE 7.1 simply refuses to work no matter what I've tried, does it not work because it just doesn't work or because I haven't been able to activate it because of a demanded activation code I have never received? Connecting to 7.1 literally just seems to mute the headset entirely. Dear God, at this point, I've pretty much given up and can barely even be f*cked to find out what's wrong. There are so many things I appreciate about this headset but it has by far been the single most frustrating product I've ever experienced.
The best thing about this headset is its mic’s ability to block wind noise. I have my stand fan right next to me and it can block like 80-90% of wind noise. Good job Razer 👍
My friends tells they hear me really really well, but toooo low volume. They can hear me if i talk really loud, putting the mic touching my mouth (the closest posible) I don't know how to fix the sensitivity
im on pc, same for me its really quiet. Bullshit Microphone tbh, my Blackshark V2 X are much better. Dont know if its with all BT headsets but this one has a really bad mic, gotta stick with cables i guess...
I really appreciate that you guys use EFT as your main game for headset reviews lately. It's easily the most sound-dependent game and I've really been trying to find info on headsets that work best for the game. You guys really pushed me towards getting the Blackshark V2 Pros from my Arctis 7s and I absolutely love them.
@@uslph. I wasn't saying it had the best audio quality. I said that the game is extremely sound-dependent because it is. Every eft player knows the audio is shit but that doesn't take away from how important it is.
I very recently got the HyperX Cloud Flight wireless for about 80$ on sale, seems to be pretty solid so far. Surprised that wasn't in the lineup of comparisons for this price-point
I had a cloud alpha for 1.5 years. I had to return them and I got a refund. It electrocuted me many times. Last time I got very bad headache. It's a common issue and there are quite a few people on reddit and tom's hardware claiming the same issue. Even with their keyboard. I loved my cloud alpha, but if my health comes into the situation, definitely no. I do not recommend them anymore to my friends and anyone I talk to. That's why I even wrote this down. Be very careful with that headphones man.
@@axle1337 depends. For big heads and ears, razer seems to be the better option lol. I returned the Arctic 1 wireless because my ears rubbed against the drivers. Headset is tiny imo
I'm confused why you missed the entire Steelseries stack here? They have 3 different wireless headsets in the price range you looked at as competition, and their Arctis 1 is basically the same headset as this.
I know right? I clicked this video because I was thinking of switching from my Arctis 7 to this one, so I hoped that he would do a comparison. But tbh, I see nothing special with these, my Arctis 7 is working just fine and the battery life is exquisite!
Hmm you're right, it is oddly similar in features and the identical USB-C dongle plus the same "4-in-1" marketing lol. I haven't tried the Arctis 1 but thanks for bringing this to my attention. -D.
That's not true, there is only another headset for this category, the Arctis 1 and for this price a wireless headset is pretty solid. Im not a big fan of Razer, I usually don't like their build quality but we have to be honest here, they did a really good job for a 99 €/$ wireless headset, and NO, they did not copied the Steelseries, a company that places a product in a category where other brands are present is not copying, it is called marketing.
steel series only have bluetooth, while this has 2.4ghz dongle that is way superior in signal strength and almost no latency compared to steel series around 100-300 ms lag
Is it me or it is just the Steelseries Arctis 1 wireless but with a Razer logo? (I wonder why he didn't mention it since they are extremely similar with the same usb-c dongle)
Bought these today (Aug 2022) - coming from Cloud's that I've had for 5 years - Love these! They changed the usb-c dongle to having the plug off-set to the side so now when plugging into a laptop it will only cover 1 port rather than 2(and being "reversable" you can flip it over depending on what port you want or don't want to block)
The type c dongles are a must now imo. Specially for using with a quest 2 or switch. Just so much nicer of an experience than a short 3.5 cable that you have to hook up every time.
My current headphones have a micro b connection, which is why I'm looking for a new headset, I've burned through so many of these cables cause they break so easily. Everytime after a few weeks they start disconnecting and popping and screaming in my ears lol
Not even close Edit (because of confusion): cloud 2 was the best. Looking at upgrading from my excellent wired clouds for a wireless pair of headphones - thinking about staying with the same brand after this video.
@@ekasism no they don't,not for their price.Definitely "decent headphones" sound better, but the fact is that gaming headphones are good enough for the vast majority of people
The only thing that's missing on this headset is an internal microphone, which will provide an option to consumers to not carry the detachable microphone on the go. Otherwise, this would be a huge winner.
Exactly, I found myself comparing these to the Arctis 7p+ but heard the arctis didnt have as much bass, less battery life, its more expensive, and it only comes in white
Considering I'm an old school wired guy for the price I'd rather some monoprice retro's and a decent USB mic, but I don't play fps games so not sure what the positional audio is like on the retro's for that kind of gaming. Nice to see a lot of these headsets aren't the ugly RGB mess they've been for the last few years though.
It we be beneficial if you provided you rating of what you heard in those sound samples. You mentioned your least favorite, but not specifically the rank of each. It would be helpful to gauge your rank against our own to better judge headsets reviewed here. Thanks for your review!
I use the Razer Kraken II nearly 5 years. I love how i can just replace the ear cushions for small money, because this is the only thing what disintegrate from using it. No RGB, No Bloatware, cable is ridiculous good and also the whole build quality is compared to others great. I tested in the meantime several other Headsets from the usual gamer scheme industry. Just to see if it makes any difference to spend double or triple the money. And it's clearly not. Even on the Epos 603(sic) with "broadcast quality mic" for $200 it's nothing what i must have, the mic is even worse. I learned that if you use your mic very often in games or for chatting, streams you name it, a $30 Table microphone usb-c will do a much much much better job than everything you could buy with a so called "Gaming Headset". Therefore, it's better to look for comfort, ergonomics and build quality, of course the sound should be good too, but the build in drivers in most of this gamer headset came out of the same chinese fab, there is not much difference technically. The point is, i would not recommend choosing a headset only on behalf of the microphone quality. Anyway, i guess i'll get me one of this Baracuda Headsets, to see if its as good as the wired kraken.
I'm here a couple years after this video was released and im pretty sure the headset has a larger rotation now and can be rotated inwards. The headset now has an app which can be used to adjust settings and see battery and the battery life now reaches over 50 hours.
I bought these recently and used them a couple times, and I've boxed them back up and taking them back after work tomorrow. Not the most comfortable, but ok for a couple hours. My biggest gripe is the Mic, I coudnt hear myself, nor could my guildmates. If i more or less stuck the mic against the corner of my mouth it was marginally better. I had the setting maxed out. Going back to my old Turtlebeach P12 Earforce I used with my PS4.
I ain't no audiophile but, to me, that mic sounds a bit muffled and sludgy. The HyperX Cloud II easily sounds the best of the bunch; while not especially rich in sound, it's clean and clear, and that's what matters most when communicating with teammates. Is it worth the extra $40? Maybe? Probably. I think I'd still lean toward wired headphones and a proper mic at that price point, but as a decent wireless option, I could see myself choosing the Cloud II over the competition. Still, props to Razer for taking steps in the right direction and (seemingly) listening to consumers and taking cues from the criticism.
Built my gf a PC a while ago and I went with a BeQuiet! Shadow Rock 3 and it's been amazing. Really great offset design where it avoids the RAM and gets the end of the fins up quite close to the rear exhaust fan, creating a bit of extra airflow around that part. Cool seeing it in a sponsor highlight!
I still have my Razer Barracuda AC-1 Gaming Audio Card from 2008! It’s PCI, so I can’t use it with a modern motherboard, but it’s still an awesome piece of technology! Glad that Razer is revisiting its older product lineup.
Bought these a week ago for £40. I don't need the bluetooth as I use it for my job and occasional gaming. It's worth every penny so far, comfortable, good sound, and even better sound with the 7.1 surround. If you're in the UK, jump to Curry's as it's on sale now.
It's 2021 and you guys still haven't tested the MMX 300, please, it's so good, I think a lot of your audience is sleeping on it. Although I understand Beyerdynamic prices may be a bit steep if you aren't located in europe.
I tried arctis 1 & barracuda X both pretty good & comfy they are at the same lvl, but i prefer barracuda. What lacks from arctis 1 is the pads thinner so my ears can touch the speaker & the mic ofc. Anything else than that are same. Pls take a note i'm not a razer fan boy.
Thanks so much for these videos, honostly went through about 5 of your reviews before landing on this one, really appreciate your honesty with reviews as I've spent 250$ on my previous headset just to send it back due to comfort issues. I'm pretty excited to try these out when they arrive! :D
@@Sam-de8tchey wsp, i only used them for like 1 day so i dont know abt the battery, but the mic is actually pretty solid and my friends liked it, the sound stage is a bit high but u can still pick up on footsteps easily so in games like r6 its good, and its really comfy with a really nice amount of clamping force
As a hardware reviewer I'm surprised you don't know "75%" volume doesn't mean it's not at full volume. Change the slider to dB view. 75% for this headset is 0db. 100% you're adding gain (and making the mic sound crappier)
idk if there is an updated version but I bought a barracuda X and it has bluetooth...can swap betweet audio from my pc to my phone very easily.... they are very straight foward. really like it and the price point is surprisingly good
As someone who uses an Arctis 1 wireless the one thing I wish these had and the Arctis 1 had is Bluetooth. It's kinda annoying having the receiver in your phone and you can't charge your phone and have the receiver on the same time
I just this headset because my new phone didn't have a headphone jax. I was kind of disturbed that it's sound was better (or at least I like the sound more) than my HyperX Pro cloud 2-something I bought 8-9 months ago for $30 more. The barracuda's mic is kind of flimsy and it falls out kind of easy. I think the hyperx mic sounds better judging by this video. I like the earcups. The hyperx uses these nasty leather cups and they feel sponges when you pc causes you to sweat. I rarely charge the barracuda x and haven't had problems power wise. I use them for work so 2-3 hours of listening to music and a couple of hours on the road so I don't come near 20 hours of usage. I do like USB C doggle for allowing to control from a hardware side and not internal software. I am a little paranoid about losing it or breaking which adds a little more stress. $99 for this headset is really the best part. It's a lot of bang for buck. I've spent 140 on a previous senniheiser years ago and it doesn't compare.
does also anyone experience humming when u dont play any sound but u have the headset turned on? - the higher the volume, the greater the hum (barracuda X 2022)
Sad to see Steelseries Arctis 1 Wireless wasn't mentioned for comparison. They are exact same price, even have a similar look. Would have liked to hear the microphone comparison.
I just tried this one on at a local Best Buy and it was super comfortable. It felt better than the cloud flight. I also like the Logitech pro headset but they are heavier.
Woah. It's my birthday today and my Logitech G Pro has decided to die on me :( Searched a bit for a replacement and came across your channel. The production quality of your videos are on another level, everything seem so clean and crisp. Love it. And btw thanks I ordered the Barracuda and it's arriving tomorrow :D You got a new sub!
I don’t know how and where are you recording the mic tests but as far as I have tested and heard all of the headset mics are far better sounding. Especially on the Kraken TE the mic is much more clearer and better sounding than in tests. Using OBS or razer synapse side tone is also a where I can test my mic and I can tell that it is perfect.
Hope it comes to India asap All the specialities/diff he said after comparing all those headsets made me more n more wanting to get those. All the requirements checked as per my requirements. Except for the mic tho it never gets the required level as like the vmoda boom mic or somethings like that Just hoping for the best
This competes directly with arctis 1 wireless and yet it wasnt even mentioned. Heck, they have similar dongles lmao. Edit: after watching/reading more reviews, it not only directly competes with it but it's practically a reskinned arctis 1 wireless
@@shadownight6093 If you must have wireless. It's by FAR the best wireless headset you can get for the money. If you don't need wireless, just get the cloud alpha.
@@shadownight6093 it's feature-packed. more expensive wireless headsets don't have usb-c dongle. Your alternative is this clone from razer and strix go 2.4 which is most likely not that comfortable.
Thank you so much for reviewing this model!! love all ur vids theyre always so useful and informative you pull it off every time :D maybe you could review the 2022 model one? :3
Just got the white pair off of Amazon for $69 bucks. For the money...not bad at all. Snag them if you are looking for a backup pair or are on a budget.
Hi there! Congrats for the excellent content! I'm gonna buy a new headset soon and i'm in doubt between the barracuda X and the hyperx cloud flight. Can you give me a tip of which one is the best? Thanks!
I really wish gaming companies would make headphones without a mic, i'd love some gaming headphones that can compete with my Senhieser 560s. Although this a big jump in quality for Razer these headphones just don't do that, the software and the look sure is tempting though..
js bought one today and theres a few changes to it, i got it for $79. the dongle usb-c connector was moved to the side, giving more space for other USB ports. the battery life is 50 hours. and removing the soft foam on the mic makes the sound clearer. also the ear pads are kinda good cause its not those type of fabrics that peel off after a few uses. i like it, and the video helped a lot!
Barracuda X is $100 US on Amazon. I think it's probably in the right price point here. But no Bluetooth and that crappy dongle are really big negatives. If I was looking for a headset around this price point I think I would go for the HyperX Cloud 2 Wireless for the $40 more. I've had my Cloud Flight for more than 4 years now without complaint. I feel like Razer is STILL far away from delivering a decent headset for a decent price.
I got one, and its amazing, but the only issue that i dont understand why its there, is the shakey power button when u move your head u can hear it shaking, its kinda annoying the other buttons doesnt have this problem, but still awesome headset
So the HyperX Cloud II has the best sounding mic in that comparison which is kind of funny. I would say the G733 sounds the second best. The Razer headsets just make everything sound too nasally.
The 2022 Version has large upgrades. They claim they also have made the microphone much better, and many more features. Could you please make a comparison video on the Barracuda 2021 vs 2022, I have not seen such a video on the market.
The voice quality of Barracuda X is possibly (or maybe it is) affected by its foam cover around its mic. The audio output from its mic makes it sound like you're underground.
@@gyurmagyuri6440 tl;Dr The HS70s sound good to me, they're comfy, and the lack of an aux mode doesn't bother me. I've gone through 2 pairs of HS70 headphones over the course of almost 3 years now. The first pair had the battery die completely right before my warranty was up to I got a replacement for free. After a year I'm noticing this pair is losing a bit of range. They're very comfy when at my desk but laying in bed is almost unbearable. The sound is good on the "pure direct" setting but you can EQ in the icue software if you don't like it. I only use them at my PC so not being able to plug them in with an aux cable (3.5mm Jack) doesn't bother me since I have other headphones for my cellphone. ONE LIFEHACK I'D SUGGEST: buy a magnetic usb cable. With the magnetic cable you don't have to take the headphones off to plug them in, just snap the magnets together.
So I can use the usb a to usb c extender for the plug n play connector correct??? Cause my pc doesn’t have a usb c port so idk if that would work Nvm he clarified right after lmao
To me when they say wireless is Bluetooth as having to put the usb c adapter into your switch means you cant use it docked or plugged in while playing games
If you compare the sound to normal headphones in that price range does it still compete? I don't really care about the microphone but the wireless solution would work perfectly for the electronics that i own. So i want to know if the pure sound quality holds up to the price.
I'm a student and I'm confused should i go with Sony ch720n or Razer Barracuda X I watch movies, go to gym and play games on pc and i listen to music which is better in sound quality and everything
I bought this headset and the sound is not flat (as it was said in the video 8:20) at all. Here the overbass is the same as in the kraken (I have a kraken pro on my hands, so can compare). It is very difficult to listen music without additional EQ adjustment, the mids are completely clogged with lows, default sound is like from a barrel. Even my Anker Soundcore Q30 sounds better in stock (and MUCH better in tuning), and they are half the price! Once again disappointed in the Razer sound p.s. im not razer hater, they make some cool devices (use naga X as main mouse and very happy with it), but their headphones are just "overpriced meeeeh"...
