You just described me perfectly in general and in music all of my friends and music friends are like how do you learn this stuff how do you have time and I tell everybody the information is out there it's just a matter of collecting it and putting it to work

Actually, in reality it becomes “Jack of all trades, master of a couple”

1000% agree. Its been my mantra to not only be good in multiple genres , but authentic.

AI’s going to completely change mixing, mastering, songwriting, and production which will allow for almost anyone to create a release ready production by themselves. Music will still require musicianship but it will make the production process much faster for a single person. Soon, I don’t think there’s going to be a mixer or producer or mastering engineer or songwriter, there’s only going to be the artist and I think that’s a win overall.

Point taken, and I agree that things definitely seem to be moving in that direction. Though, I think it’s worth considering that there will always be artists who don’t want to/feel they can’t do the other stuff, no matter how automated it gets. Most producer-engineers may need to master an AI-heavy toolkit and become more adaptable, also bringing industry-oriented business acumen to the table which will directly benefit the artists they work with. But I don’t think these crafts will disappear completely. If anything, I think we’ll see a lot more artist and producer-engineer duos, or small teams, who leverage their synergy to achieve an outsized impact on the field/industry. But yeah, we’ll see 🙏🏽

@@fivebyfivesound I can definitely see that. Music still thrives on collaboration and I don’t think AI will change that anytime soon. I’ve actually been niching down heavily on guitar because it’s still one of the most popular instruments in the world and it’s very hard to clone or fake, unlike keys or drums. I’m very optimistic about the next 5-10 years and I think the music business is going to be very strong for people who have the right skills to take advantage of these new tools. Cheers and I’d like to say I’ve enjoyed your content for many years. Keep it up y’all!

Could not disagree more. I think AI is a fad and so many people will sour on it sooner than later. I think we may be left with some of the remnants and tools of AI, but I truly don’t think commercial music will ever be 100% AI. That’s not music at that point. It’s just noises.

@@TheSoundTable but didn’t ppl say the same thing at first about the synthesizer, and the compact disc, and file sharing torrents? I don’t think quickly and widely adapted tech which has already significantly affected the way ppl in the music industry function should be written off as a fad. But time shall tell 🤷🏽‍♂️

@@TheSoundTable I could be wrong but I don’t think big tech companies invest $180 billion this year and $1 trillion the next five years on a fad. I think it’s going to completely change music production, speeding up the process. Hunting for drum samples and chasing eq cuts will be drastically easier and quicker. It’ll allow the artist to take over a larger piece of the production. No ones saying 100% of commercial music will be AI. Like Austin said in the video “you can’t just be the lyrics guy anymore”, soon that will apply to mixers and mastering engineers and maybe a few others.

I recognize you’re probably directing your question to the channel, but in case you find it helpful, here’s my perspective based on I’ve learned works for me in learning crafts over the years: 1) Get clear on your dream. That’s your “what?”, “where?”, “why?” and “with & for whom?” of becoming a singer-songwriter and producer. The details can and likely will shift and change over time. But you need something concrete to aim at and give you certain direction as you start. Otherwise you’ll likely get pulled in a thousand directions, especially as you seek advice in forums like this. 2) Breakdown each path into its respective parts, identify the fundamentals of those parts, and make a plan for how to start learning those fundamentals. For example: If your “what?” is “become a singer-songwriter who plays guitar and makes music like Ed Sheeran” (random example), then that breaks down into learning the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, singing, playing guitar, stagecraft and songwriting in the style of Ed Sheeran. So then you make a plan for how you think you’ll best and most efficiently learn starting your own business, singing, performing, playing guitar and writing like Ed. It could be that this would be seeking a teacher who is at least good at all of these things *and* is an effective teacher. Those likely the learning will come from multiple sources. 3) Surround yourself with where you want to get to and who you want to become. If you’re in a rural area or “small market”, this might mostly be immersing yourself in media and then traveling to go to shows and events. But if you’re in or near a big city, it’ll be easier to find and introduce yourself to the people and spaces that are already doing some or all of what you want to become. And if you’re aiming to be a JOAT then the broader the experiences the better. Above all, I’d say prioritize activities that keep you inspired and help you continue to broaden and deepen your perspective on creative musicianship and entrepreneurship in the Arts / the entertainment industry. Listen, learn, and PRACTICE. It’s easy to get caught up in online info these days. Every day, get up and DO the thing you want to become :) Hope this helps. All the best in your journey 🙏🏽
