Japanese people are known for their intelligence, politeness, and wellness. Why is this nation so unique and different from the rest of the world? It seems we’ve found the answer - they have an incredibly cool education system and unique teaching methods! There is a unique method in Japanese schools for developing creativity in kids. We believe that the whole world needs to adopt it! It’s called “Nameless paints.” In this video, we'll tell you how it works. Watch till the end - there is a small but brilliant bonus for you.

SUMMARY:
- “Nameless paints” includes ten tubes that don’t have color names such as “yellow,” “blue,” or “green.” Instead, there are only spots of a particular color or colors on each tube. As you can see, the spots are also different sizes.
- In Japanese schools, students don’t take any exams until they reach grade four (the age of 10). The goal for the first three years of school is not to judge the child’s knowledge, but to establish good manners and to develop their character.
- While most schools in the world begin their academic year in September or October, in Japan, it is April that marks the start of the academic and business calendar. The first day of school often coincides with one of the most beautiful natural phenomena - the time of cherry blossom.
- In Japanese schools, students have to clean the classrooms, cafeterias, and even toilets all by themselves. Most Japanese schools do not employ janitors or custodians.
- All classmates eat in their classroom together with the teacher. This helps build positive teacher-student relationships.
- To get into a good junior high school, most Japanese students enter a preparatory school or attend private after-school workshops.
- Japanese calligraphy, or Shodo, involves dipping a bamboo brush in ink and using it to write hieroglyphs on rice paper.
- While some schools have their attire, traditional Japanese school uniform consists of a military style for boys and a sailor outfit for girls.
- At the end of high school, Japanese students have to take an exam that determines their future. A student can choose one college they would like to go to, and that college has a particular score requirement.
- Having gone through ‘examination hell,’ Japanese students usually take a little break. In this country, college is often considered the best years of a person’s life. Sometimes, Japanese people call this period a ‘vacation’ before work.

The key to all these statistics lies on the idea of 'Manners before knowledge'. When I was in college, I had a subject in Psychology. There, I learned that your attitude and character were built from the age of 0-9 years old. Now, Japanese applied this and took time to nurture discipline as it is the very foundation to excellence. Hats off!
@liyaah85

but you can always change your attitude and character later in life. You're not stuck if you didn't build it before you were 9. You can rewire your brain at any age, it's scientifically proven it's called neuroplasticity.

I am 60 years old, I was born in the United States. The best education system starts before the children leave their homes. It's called parents. Parents who are a team and help their children adapt to the world and have values are the key to every society. I worked for 32 years in major corporations, then 5 years in my own consulting business, and for the past 3 years I am teaching. I first thought the key to any school was the quality of the teachers. Now I think this comes second after the quality of the students. Recently, my high school students complained about teachers not being focused and doing their job properly. I told them, great students can easily get rid of poor teachers. I so wish I had motivated students who were ready to learn everyday. Instead, the vast majority of students come to my school to learn what will be on the tests and get grades. I get in trouble with parents and students because I bring in topics that are current and cutting edge. Having worked as a sales director, manager, financial analyst, operations manager, accountant, and competitor analyst, I bring real world case studies to my students. I help them see the connections between the course work and how to create something new and exciting. It's hard work. I think the video shows us one approach. I commend the Japanese for helping their students become proficient in so many ways. I really like the ideas of the students cleaning the school, control of school meals, and respect for everyone in the school. I am ashamed when I think about how bad schools have become in the United States. We once had a good system even in the central cities. I am a product of public schools in Newark, New Jersey. I learned how to compete with the best of them, and so did my classmates. Even the bullies of my day were educated well. But new times, need new strategies and a vision. After more than 50 years of neglect it looks like Newark is making a turnaround. Sadly, it will likely not include the people who suffered from the disinvestment in public schools and the investment in youth incarceration. Schools are no substitute for parents, that is a problem a school can not solve. Schools can not solve the problem of poor leadership and the lack of vision. I thank President Eisenhower for having a vision and making the country move forward when I was a child. He started the idealism that drove the United States forward. Kennedy tried to keep it going. We know how that ended. Now, parents and teachers need to push aside the poor leaders and figure out how they want society to be in the future. We can't wait for a president, governor, or mayor to lead us, we have to start working on future leaders. It's a lot easier that we might think. Our parents did it, why can't we do it now?

As a young and efficient students,it is not advised to hire an hacker for your university grades because if you fall into a fake/scam hacker,they might temper with your grades and this will reflect in your school portal,you might have a spill/expelled from the university/school or college,so with this,it is best advised to know the right hacker and contact them when appropriate. My Country is Pakistan. Here teachers put a lot of effort in bringing up a child's interest in it's knowledge and study from age of 3.5 years. The start of going to school is marked by Early Education at 3 to 4 years. Then Montessori and KG. A 12 year of education completes a student's effort to enter his/her Professional carrier. There is a lot of competition in private public school system. Unfortunately learning through nature is not in practice and schools have no plans for fostering creativity and developing a pro-social behavior.

In the Ph, school starts at June (but they're starting to change it to August). The standard/common call time is 7:20 a.m. until 3:40 p.m. on Mondays for a 10 minute flag ceremony and 7:30 a.m. until 3:40/4:00 p.m. from Tuesdays through Fridays. We wear school uniforms, we have cleaning personnel and the community is quite mixed up- there are Filipino students who only speak English, Filipino students who only speak Tagalog and Bisaya, depending on what their local language is. You naturally learn colors, basic numbers, and basic speech before primary school. During primary school, you will only polish or learn what you haven't as preschooler. Preschool call time is 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 am everyday. When you get to grade school, school hours are extended until afternoon. Buy/Bring your own lunch and recess food, and some classes allow their students to eat while the class is ongoing. You have to wear your uniform, but you are free to wear hoodies, jackets, that sort of thing when you need to. I wear them everyday, regardless of the weather. You can wear caps, but not while class is ongoing. Some students listen, others are stuck in their own world doing their own stuff (drawing). Some teachers love to make their students laugh, others are very kind and give you many chances, and others are slightly strict, but still like to have fun with their students. One of the very memorable times of a Filipino's grade school years are the Sports Fests. Every year, the school picks a trending theme and creates teams based on the theme (we did Pokemon GO last year) and divides the students into a specific team. There's also a Fiesta, where you can basically go around anywhere, shop in the booths, or hang out in your classroom and party! (We did a pellet gun war last year with toy guns we bought from the booths) And it's really fun! A lot of rivalry, drama, emotional moments, but so far, my grade school (Yes, I am just a 6th Grader) has been really fun! (Although its not all rainbows and butterflies) In my opinion, it doesn't matter where you are born, it's what you do with where you already are that does! Make do with what you have and you'll end up with no regrets! (Quotes from a 6th Grader)

iKeyStar I'm Filipino too but moved to the UK after Grade 3 and the system is so different here. Classes are shorter and there's no such thing as 'raising the flag and singing the National Anthem'. Growing up, I wished there was some sort of Fiesta though since there weren't a lot of time Students could fully unite together and do projects for an event. We do have a sports day were everyone does sports but the teachers organise it and that's only a day.

Ikeystar sadly the things you learn from Grade 1 will still be thought until grade 6 until 3yr of highschool, come college they will still teach what you have been taught in Elementary... you are only on 6th grade? I'm sure in high school you will repeat the same lessons in 1st year and half of 2nd year in almost all subjects.. come to college you enrolled on a 5 year course but the real course and major subjects will start on your 3rd year your 1st and 2nd year in college is just a review or a redo of what you have been taught in elementary and high school... that's Philippine education for you..
@r.emym_
@r.emym_ 7 лет назад
+Marvin G. It doesn't literally mean like that, it's basically a spiral system where your lessons gets harder and adds as your grader level gets higher. And they teach different lessons depending on the grade level you are in. We just have an introduction or an encounter with the lessons we might take on the next grade level because the teachers believe that we can be prepared for it.

As a Japanese, most of the information is incorrect. Japanese education always judge students with scores and how good they are in tests. There is no chance you can decide what you want to learn. We always have to follow what majority does and ruled by strict school rules. Japanese education is still same with stereotypical asian education.

I really hated school all my childhood, I felt discriminated since I didn’t adapt to the norms of the time, I didn’t talk to any adult thus any teacher just my school mates, and today reading my reports all was negative all the indicator were the last tick, the worse. Apparently I wasn’t following the “normal” path. I had to do 1st year twice. Left my new friends. And that was a load all the way till I finished school since I was the older. And today I feel that school was a really agresive place a place where the only thing I wanted was to finish the day and go home. It wasn’t a fun place, was boring, and without contention. Today I am proud of my self my carpentry career, I am good with my hands and i have plenty of fun. But I don’t want to recall those time of torture and I wish my kids have and open minded place to study where they can have fun. 1 second ago

I went to school in Norway and thought I received a well-rounded, high quality education for sure! Plus low/non-existing cost of education is a massive factor, of course. It sucks how most countries don't get the funding they need and deserve... I also think education pretty much everywhere needs a bit of a reform though, the system is out of date - if I could have spent the hours I spent cramming for advanced tests etc. in subjects I knew with 100% certainty I would not get future use of to instead focus on my strengths, that would have been so much more beneficial in professional life. That's where I think Finland is doing well, they're reducing workload in terms of homework while simultaneously experiencing a boost in productivity and results, and experimenting with letting younger people specialise (almost major, I guess?) in certain subjects from an earlier age!

I have a high respect for the Japanese culture, because they focus on teaching students about respect, responsibility, and creativity. In addition, when compared to the American school system they are not consistently drowned with testing that frustrates students and blocks their creativity and uniqueness. Most importantly, as a teacher I know the importance of children having respect, because I have students that disrespect the learning environment daily and I have to make sure that I model and teach them the value of loving themselves and caring for others.

I've been teaching in Japan nearly a year and I can tell you that most of this is fluff. The imaginative color set may be used in some private schools but it is not representative of public school teaching in Japan. Primary education makes an attempt at moral character forming but the nation-wide bullying problem shows that it is not effective. Come junior high, everything becomes about rote memorization and testing. Kids don't learn to be effective problem-solvers, they learn that class is boring and that every subject requires a grade to pass and that's it. Just memorize. Japanese pedagogical methods are stuck in the 1930's.

Young Lady Caileigh Still I believe the Philippine educational system is rotten and needs to be re-evaluated. Methods are outdated and are too focused on grades and standards rather than motivating students as unique individuals. So much is also crammed in an academic school year with lessons and methods that are not really useful. Those NATS? Hahaha. Some results are even rigged because principals and other district officials care more about their school's rep than actual teaching. The Japanese and Northern European systems seem to be the best so far.
@r.emym_
@r.emym_ 7 лет назад
+R Gonzales I believe that the education system of the Philippines is not rotten, because most of the best students comes from the Philippines, not only when it comes to academics but the talents of the students and the culture of the country, students are taught to have proper etiquette and character is still one of the focus of the schools. You have the point that it needs to be re-evaluate but I don't believe that you only get high quality education in best private school because some of the best students come from public schools because the pacing of the lessons are much faster and some public schools have what they call science class which includes advanced study for the lessons of which subjects the students will take.
@rgonzales1657
@rgonzales1657 7 лет назад
Rachelle Jeremy Rachelle Jeremy Admittedly, perhaps I have gone too far by saying it is rotten. I never said private is superior to public. I am a product of both private and public school systems in the Philippines (they're basically the same) and I know what they're like. The overall educational system is okay but it can have great leaps of improvement. I graduated from this science program you're referring to (Special Science Class, it is called). To the Department of Education's credit, they have in fact created separate programs for the arts, journalism, sports and science to cater to different interests. I guess I am just frustrated how much of the system is based on America's, and that it sucks compared to the type they have in Europe and Japan, and that the previous commenter make it sound like it's flawless. There are thousands of students here who are underprivileged and the system fails to cater to their learning needs in so many ways. I also dont like how schools cease to become fun because we cram too much and that we have a general mindset that education is primarily about getting high grades or salaries rather than learning. Probably that's a cultural thing--we're third world after all. We've recently implemented a K to 12 program (middle school), so we'll see how this one goes.

I worked as a teacher in Japan for 7 years and a lot of this information is incorrect. First of all, you are playing Chinese music in the background. Next, creativity is not an important part of schooling in japan, collectivism is. There is a saying in Japan that the nail that sticks out gets hammers down, meaning if you have a different opinion from others then you will be ostracized. Children are shouted at by teachers for hours and sometimes they are physically abused by teachers. Students do exams before grade 4. There are hardly any animals or nature in Japan. It was so bad, our school didn't even have a playground! We walked up to 30 minutes just to get to the nearest park for the children to play. They collapsed in the heat and humidity on their way back to school. Children are forced fed to eat the same meals and if they don't eat something they don't like, they will be scolded. Cram school or these "after school workshops" means that the children are constantly studying and no downtime to relax or play. Children wander the street at night after attending these workshops. Hieroglyphs are Egyptian, the caligraphy they are doing in called Kanji. The uniform is made to create conformity, not a community. There are high rates of bullying in schools and suicide. Sure there are great things about Japan but lets be realistic.

As someone who has been going to Japan for 25+ years, I would say not creativity so much, but more like impeccable social manners. The creativity part comes from the idea as long as they do what they are "supposed to do" socially, they can be personally expressive in clothes and what have you. That may be the benefactor to this creativity.

I've been teaching in Japan for almost 10 years, and I've never even heard of or seen the paint thing in the beginning part of the video. Yes, they got the parts about cleaning the classroom and eating school lunches in their classrooms. Yes, students do learn basic calligraphy and haiku, but I'm skeptical about the way they presented this... And it is true that most schools from JH and up have uniforms. And I have heard some people say that universities in Japan can be quite easy and are the best time of their life (though, even in the US college years are thought to be the best years of a person's life). Pretty much everything ranges from completely off base to mixing a dash of truth with a lot of misunderstanding. And a lot of the images used were obviously from China, not Japan. This was very poorly researched.

In the Philippines: > Color lectures only, not interactive workshop, in pre-school (Nursery, Prep, Kindergarten). I think this is optional. > We do exams on the first grade (Grade 1), Age 7. Start of education is 4 years old. > While academic year in Japan is April 1st (this is what U.S. called it "A Fool's Day"), academic year in the Philippines is the 2nd week of June, and that is in all Elementary, High School, and College days. However, I receive the reports that the University of the Philippines (UP) and Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), without any official legislative directives, decided that January 1 is the academic year. UP and ADMU offers only college courses. > Preschool, Elementary, and Highschool adopt a one-year academic calendar, where the third week of December to first week of January is the vacation week (A transition that comes near Christmas Day and New Year), and also the spring break (third week of March to 2nd week of June). In College, the adoption of semestral break or trimestral break depends on the College or University (e.g. De La Salle University adopts trimestral basis while the rest of the university, such as Far Eastern University, University of the East, and University of Sto. Tomas, adopt the semestral basis). > In Elementary and High School, we were been designated by groups who will be cleaners at the end of the classroom session for Monday, Tuesday, till Friday. We were not allowed to go home unless the classroom is clean. In College, designation of cleaners do not apply. It is the student's conscience if they will leave the classroom dirty and let the janitors clean the classroom for the next sesssion. > Standardized lunch menu does not apply here. The choice is for the students to pack their own lunch or buy in the canteen/cafeteria. Some schools banned the soft drinks while others continue to do so. > After-school workshops do not apply here. > 8-hour class session applies here in Elementary and Highschool, although in Preschool and Primary Elementary has half-day class in the morning and others in the afternoon. College hours do not apply here, as long as the required load unit subject will be taken to graduate. > Uniform policy is very strict here during Pre-school, Elementary, High School, and College years. We do wear white uniform (with logo depends on the school), black pants, and leather shoes, unless during Physical Education (P.E.) subject, like P.E. Uniform, school-required jogging pants, and rubber shoes. University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, and De La Salle University, the first three of the Top 4 Universities in the Philippines have no uniform requirement, whereas University of Santo Tomas has a strict uniform requirement. The rests of the college requires a uniform. Tuck-in polo uniform for boys are not required. > Regarding competition, everyone in this world faces severe competition, with high unemployment rate, which is frustrating if not hired on the spot.

Primary education in Japan and other East Asian countries is based on rote memorization. So no creativity there, at least as Westerners recognize it. Though, one big advantage of such a system is that students are drilled in basic subjects from a young age. Perhaps this is why one sees many Chinese students in US universities; China has a primary education system based on rote memorization and students seem to have a good command of basic subjects such as math and sciences, but in high school and university more creativity is required, so this is one reason why many Chinese exchange students attend universities in North America and Europe. I think that in North America and Europe primary school should include more rote memorization, at least to allow students to have a firm command of basic academic skills, such as math and reading, in preparation for later school grades.

I agree kids need to first learn how to be kids.

Which is actually the BEST part of the Japanese education system if this video is accurate. After that, it begins to go downhill to where the kids end up getting classified and labeled like the residents of a beehive.

This is so true. This is why my kids have to play at least half a day. Somedays, it is even longer and when the weather is nice, we spend much of it outdoors.

Years ago, America had a similar situation but in 2021,American is no longer a world power and to be honest,now seeing this I wonder if America ever really was all it was cracked up to be. I love America but Japan seems to have things more together.

Just sayin' In the Philippines we usually start classes at 7am and finish at 5pm. Some fortunate students do private tutorials or acquire special classes after school (like maths and arts). SY usually runs on June (but private schools assign their opening of classes any time they want as long as it is in the prescribe period) 'til March but sometimes may last on April because of some causes. We too, do clean our own classrooms. And also we are required to wear proper uniform always. Starting from kindergarten exams are implemented and practiced. We do have Good Morals and Right Conduct (GMRC) subject for elementary. And Values Educ for secondaries. And religion classes, (which Catholic & Born Again Churches here usually do esp in public schools) it is not a school subject but it is provided for us to gained more faith and to have a strong foundation on what we believed in.

I don't want to be part of this educational system because they judge there student by there score and grades. Score is not everything exam don't define you. Don't let exams and grades defined your whole future. Massage to Japanese students pursue your dreams no matter what and be who you wanted to be but be a good one.

just forgot to tell that this ideal system makes the most stressed out young people in the world, resulting in one of the highest suicide rates also. it has many qualities, but one should not overlook the flaws.

Luana Audio, good luck proving your idiotic theory of japanes schools makes suicidal persons.
@petitio_principii
@petitio_principii 6 лет назад
Higher suicide rates are rather correlated with a greater overall sense of happiness, in rich countries. Then when things go bad for someone, for some reason, they feel everyone else is doing so much better, and that they can only blame themselves (people in whereas poor and sadder countries can think, "well, at least it isn't just me", "at least isn't all my fault"). Possibly they could reduce it somewhat with some training in notions of cognitive behavioral therapy added in school and maybe even college.
