Zephyr Teachout, 2014 Democratic gubernatorial candidate, with help from CUNY's Center for Urban Research, is redrawing Brooklyn's traditional neighborhood boundaries. Gone are the arbitrary borders of Gravesend and Sunset Park, Williamsburg and Fort Greene - instead, she’s exploring the maps of Brooklyn that tell the story of today’s demographics… From ‘Republican Brooklyn’ to ‘Yiddish Brooklyn’ and beyond.

This was a wonderful film however, the host should’ve dressed to the modesty laws in the community. Her skirt was too short... her legs were bare... etc.

My friend used to live in Crown Heights and I used to visit him often. I was surprised that there was this isolated community in the biggest city in the world. I was curious about them but didn't think they were allowed to talk to me. I also remember hearing a Hasidic politician tell a reporter in a coffee shop, that he vows to hold the Torah higher than the US law.

Obviously when we believe Torah law comes from God we hold it to a higher standard than secular law, but according to Jewish law one must not violate the “law of the land.”

@@Benchex21 Which isnt a problem. But the way I took it to mean, was that as a politician, he would be willing to side with Jewish law even where it conflicts with US laws.

This Rabbi is great! His information is very helpful, and makes it very easy for non-Jewish people to understand Hasidic Judaism. Thank you for sharing this. I am a Protestant Pastor, and am intrigued with this culture. As a Christian, I LOVE the Jewish people, and pray for their safety and peace.

funny how they only had to be "saved" from the Soviet union after Stalin put an end to their reign of terror. the idea that was the Soviet union , the Boksheviks, the NKVD, etc was wholly Jewish in origin. the murder of millions of various Christians and other non Jews was just business as usual but oh no it was the "Red Terror" once Stalin started purging the Jews from their positions in the Soyuz. Yeah he rescued them all right. he helped them off the terror ship they created when it started to sink a bit too much in their luxury cabins.

@jungle305 no, they dont suck baby blood, but they do take a tube and take some of the blood of the circumcised baby, so that's where the myth originates, the killing babies and drinking their blood is a mideavel myth, in fact in the bible it says that you are not allowed to drink blood lest your soul be cut off, now to my last point, in my opinion people shouldn't have the write speak unless their iq is at least 2, so that pretty much rules you out

Nasima A it happened to you, we would first need to look into it in order to verify that it really happened and if it turns out it's true we would cut him off from the synagogue, then we would publicize his crime which would probably end up in a divorce with his wife taking custody of his kids, people would socially disconnect from him, and no one would ever marry him because he's a cheater a liar, and a violent man, and he would be depressed for his whole life until he dies

Umm..interesting. I never looked at it that way. So when they make mistakes or forget something I wonder if they feel angst,pain,or just have to say a load of extra "hail mary's" to pay for it ? Anyway,I think all their ritual keeps them busy,and,in a sense, renders them harmless. But the one's in Jerusalem are aggressive and militant and seem to cause trouble for others at times.

I remember I worked in a kosher store and all I can say is they are really dirty unleast the people I work with and some of his associates like damm the reeked and I can tell he didnt brush his teeth I can see why his wife divorced him after 3 months then got remarried and somehow can tell the wife wasn't in to him and my god was he a mommy boy , I use to be the only one with a license so I did all delivery and pick ups and sometimes they would come with and he would tell everything to his mom about is wife like what the fuck MAN the fuck up the fuck your mom has to know. And physically they are not strong people I notice it took 3 of them to pick up a 140 pound box i can do that shit alone
