Great discussion on why the engines are always covered in oil! I’ve always wondered why ours always had a dirty engine. I’ve said this on multiple videos and I’ll say it again. The 425s are such a great tractor.
P0tat07 I have a 2001 425 and it had a dirty engine from leaking valve covers. I bought new gaskets and decreased and washed the engine . Once the water in a couple of electrical connectors dried out it ran fine and has stayed oil free
Resurrecting my father's 94 425 aws. The machine has 160hrs that sat for 18 years in the shed do to a carburetor issue. Love it if I can get it running since it has the 3 point hitch, pto, rotor tiller, Curtis cab, front blade and lawn thatcher. Would definitely help around the house.
Ran ours hard since new and like what's left of it. Needs major work. Side panels shot. Seat in sad shape. Rings probably need replaced. Hour meter broke a few years ago at just under 3000 hrs. Time delay module replaced twice. Resoldered wire connections on ignitor. Replaced the crankshaft and rods around 10 years ago when she threw a rod on spring start-up. Fresh oil before stored for winter. IDK what caused that. Considering a total restoration or a second used 425. Considering the abuse and use of this tractor I would think many of the problems were from neglect and multiple operators. Passed around the family and mowed 5 yards (18 acres) some seasons and used like a bush hog sometimes. Need another one to run through the mill. Lol
If you can tell me where I can find a decent price John Deere quick for my John Deere 445 with angle I would appreciate it. I am very poor and I don’t have a lot of money, but I am a person who helps old people get to their doctors appointments And I own a small van with wheelchair ramps. I’m trying to make money with it but it’s very difficult in Chicago if you have anyway because we have a lot of snow and I have no way to push snow at my house right now. I’m trying to shovel it and it’s very difficult, if you know anywhere, I can pick up a plow and a quick hitch, let me know
You just have to keep looking. Winter time is generally the worst time to buy hitches. Early summer is typically when you can get the best deals. Visit dealers (Deere and others) and see if they have any used ones laying around. The more you look and the longer you are willing to wait the cheaper you will find them.
@@mmrbeef I’m quite aware of all that unfortunately all the John Deere dealers have closed around me and Illinois is a terrible place to live these days. Businesses are leaving like crazy. Thank you for responding to me. I appreciate it.
Only you would pick up another 425 just to do a comparison of the 420.. and that’s why we like you. Around me, it’s easier to find a 425 than the 445 or 455. I picked up a 425 project about a year ago and havnt started it yet.
Haha! Perhaps! With me I would be guilty of the phrase "if opportunity knocks...." Of course now I've added two space hogs to the shop for at least 3 weeks! Same here with 425's a lot easier to find than 445's and 455's. I would like to own another 455 someday....
I love my 425. I would be any of the 400 series mowers, but in my area there really isn't that many that come up for sale. Either they didn't sell that many, or people just don't sell them
I am looking at a 2001 425 with 851 hours, Looks to be in EC , asking 3700.00 I'm thinking that is lot of money for a 20 year old machine, But at same time, I know its a well made machine. Man could get lot of hours out of it trouble free. Would 3000 be a good price for it? I always enjoy your videos and learn something from them...Thanks for any help!
Personally I would think for $3000 I would be shopping for a 445 or a 455. While I appreciate a 425 the extra 2 hp and larger tires plus a few other small differences on the 445 and 455 make them worth a the extra $500-1000 you will pay most of the time. Most 425's with only a deck are worth $2500 or less in my book.

I called the man back and he Said That is OK, Its going out the driveway now , Man just bought it! And give him the 3700! O Well, Hope He will be happy with it. I'll keep looking... I did find a 332 with low hours and Guy wanted over 5G for it!! Also a 318 with low hours and He wanted 5500 for it!! And one 318 local with 1400 hours wanted 1800.00 and it was rough looking! When the grass quits growing here, I figure prices will drop! And I'll find me one then....Thanks again for the reply! Enjoy your videos!
It's doesn't have a serial tag anymore. The dealer had a serial number but I have not verified it. I figured at over 1000 hrs it either has the steel gear or it's been replaced.
The 415 was only for export and European markets. I only know of a couple 415's that are in the US and at least one was imported from the UK. If I tried to cover those markets I think my head might explode!
Vw bug Kid the only loader I know of working on a 318 would be a 44 loader specific to the 300 series tractors. The pump will have a pulley on it and that pump spins a different direction than a 400 series 44 loader.
That would be a pretty challenging modification.... The 45 mounting points would be a huge hurdle to make work. There are 44 loaders out there for the 318 and there are other types of loaders folks have modified to fit.
These are nice, newer but I don't think they have the character of the 332 tractors, 332's look like a tractor. 400 series look like lawn tractors. IMHO of course
