I never understand whats wrong in saying woman poet or poetess? Its just over reaction in fact senseless action. If a woman is a doctor we say her lady doctor but it doesn't mean we meant she is inferior, same if woman is a poet of course she is a poetess. Being a women I would like to be called a woman and I would never want equality. Man and woman are different how come they should be equal? No they should not be.
Point is men are only poet and woman are woman poet and poetess which also now grammatically incorrect but yes I also agree that sometimes things are far fetched only for the sake of discussion
But what's wrong in calling just poet ? And I'm sorry but in India if a women is doctor she's doctor not lady doctor. Only gynecologists are called lady doctot
