In the third event of our Psychedelic Revival series, we review the pharmacology and neuroscience of psychedelics, clinical research findings on safety and efficacy, contraindications, drug interactions, adverse effects, and mechanism of action.
Featured Speaker: Benjamin Malcolm, PharmD, MPH, BCPP
Benjamin earned his bachelor’s degree (BS) in pharmacology at the University of California at Santa Barbara, prior to his Masters in Public Health (MPH) and Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) at Touro University California. He then completed post-graduate residencies in Acute Care at Scripps Mercy Hospital and Psychiatric Pharmacy at the University of California at San Diego Health. After residency training, he began his career as an Academician at Western University of Health Sciences (WUHS), College of Pharmacy and obtained Board Certification in Psychiatric Pharmacy (BCPP). He is currently a Psychopharmacology Consultant and Psychedelic Educator via his website Spiritpharmacist.com
Psychedelic medicine is currently experiencing dramatic growth in research, media attention and endorsement, but why? Long regarded as drugs of abuse, psychedelics have taken new shape as groundbreaking medicine with the potential to disrupt and transform our mental health care system. This field will flourish as multiple disciplines, including nursing, collaborate to develop promising avenues towards healing.
Hosted by Penn Nursing, this six-part virtual series offers an opportunity to learn, connect, and deepen your understanding of psychedelic medicine. Featuring experts and leaders helping to usher along this transformative approach to healing, the speakers will answer important questions including: where did this come from, where are we now, and where are we going?
Join us for any or all parts of the series. The content is appropriate for attendees from an array of disciplines and with varying degrees of knowledge about psychedelics. Topics include the history of psychedelics, practice and theory of psychedelic therapy, neuroscience and pharmacology, current landscape, the future of psychedelic medicine, access & equity considerations, and personal stories from those who have benefited from psychedelic medicine. Presented through a mixture of lectures and panel discussions, the series will culminate with an in-person event to hear compelling personal stories followed by a meet & greet reception.
