Hi Adrian, I've played for over 30 yrs and must say I'm very happy you choose to share these lessons with us. Concise, clear and authentic - I'm learning some great stuff and trying new things - many many thanks. Your explanations of picking/right hand technique is superb !
My buddy and I started a country/blues rock trio with his wife and we play at local restaurants and golf courses actually lol. I had to learn cliche country riffs to pull off the lead guitar role of the band and these videos have helped me tremendously. Thank you for creating them. They have made me a better player. Cheers
Wow.... As a 30-year pro guitarist-vocalist, bassist, drummer, and wanna be keyboardist I couldn't subscribe and hit a thumbs up fast enough.... this guy's totally awesome....
Great stuff as always Adrian. I very much appreciate you taking the time to share your expertise with others. You convey your lessons in such a way as to make them, for me at least, easy to understand and learn. I'd say you're a natural teacher and a grand player with it!
I use a lick almost like this as an ending to my song also as an ending to my solo in that song. I'm metal lead guitarist but I Love this style of music as well. Super fun to play.
Adrian your courses are fine and easy , i'm always learning something new . Hope you'll keep on doing the good work with your cool attitude and talent , thanks a lot !
Adrien, I was in Nashville last week and visited Gruhn guitars and this American Original 50's telecaster, ash body, butterscotch blond nitro finish with pure 52 single coil pickup just called my name so I obliged and this guitar is absolutely wonderful. It looks just like yours. One thing that I find very hard to do is hybrid pick. I have been travis picking for many years and it is completely natural for me but if I put a pick in between my thumb and index finger and try to pick with the middle ring and little guy I find it hard to do. I guess I need to just practice and this lesson look like it will help. You're good at it. I appreciate your lessons, many thanks from Texas.
Just stumbled upon your channel. Got a gig with a working country band. Never really played country music before and trying to find some licks I can actually use on stage. Great videos man. Keep up the good work.
Adrian, you have great taste in guitar selections. Also, the atmosphere of your room is so relaxing, and your lessons are super helpful. Super fun! Thanks again! Makes me want to pick up my guitar!
I get So Giddy when you give lessons and instructions on what looks to be (initially) Too complicated, because, once you start to break it down (after the initial open) you show that "anyone can play guitar"! :) Even though this was done in 2017, I thank you for having these videos here for us to reach back on. :)
Thank you so very much for taking the time to reply, the question was prompted by watching video of George Harrison playing with John Lennon and noted he played different chords from John when not riffing or soloing, as you say giving slightly differing voicing s to the rhythm. Absolutely love your channel!
Great, great, nuanced lesson. Thanks much for this one. Really appreciate the detail on fingering and technique. Really came alive for me when I changed my fretting as you suggested at the end. I,m helping a freind choose a guitar next week, andcan’t wait to casually “unleash” at the shop at the end of Mystery Train (another great lesson of yours).
Great lick! Just want to say I subscribed a little while ago and I LOVE your lessons and ideas. I love that you can go from James Burton to Joy Division (two of my big musical inspirations as well)!
Adrian just discovered your channel, very cool playing, clean and precise, anyone may be able to play, but not like you. I think its funny that kinda grin when you play, I'm going through and learning lots of your licks, seems most UK guitarist are shredding and teaching fusion stuff, Graham, Govan, Quale. From Kentucky, [so the country, bluegrass stuff is great] but in Sunny Florida now, in Country Band. Thanks Mate, Cheers!
Hi Adrian. Please tell me to stop hopping from one great lesson to the next and stick with one 'til i've got it. I think I've got Guitar Lick Attention Deficit Disorder (GLADD?).!!
I was waiting for James Burton, he is still the king of chicken pickers. But Chet Atkins tried to copy Merle Travis and later on , as friends he named his daughter, Merle. Funny story back in the sixties, I watched , he came on an awards show and I heard him play a song I could play..I was around 16.. I was telling him.. no Chet don't play that one, that's easy. I didn't know that Chet was known to almost every one. Years later I found he was president of RCA records. Enjoyed this rockabilly tune... I like open string licks. It gives the sound texture.
hello Adrian! thanks for your another great video. could you please be so kind to tell what brand(s) of strings you prefer to use on electric guitars. thank you !
@anyonecanplayguitar thanks for the great videos. I'm new to your page, just out of curiosity do you have a video that covers the chords you used to start this lick. I'd love to learn how to pick the bar chords like you do. Thanks for your time
Thanks Daniel. Maybe take a look at a video I did on rockabilly/country rhythm which is very similar to the kind thing I do at the start of this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W2OVsPQYJfM.html
How does a lead guitarist decide which chords to add to what the rhythm guitarist is playing and how best to in crease volume quickly to cut through the rhythm during solos?
That's a big question, with lots of possible answers. Basically you need to be listening carefully, and then try and fit in with what the rhythm guitar is doing. Lots of options. Maybe finding some different ways of voicing the same chords, or playing in a different register/part of the guitar. For solo, either step on a boost pedal. Or set your amp at solo volume and back off the volume using the volume knob on your guitar at other times.
I'm trying to learn this fantastic lick, but it keeps stopping and is out of sync. Is the fault with the video or is it my computer? Keep up the good work - you are an insiration.
